What is Biblical Theology?

Introductory Comments: How’s your Bible reading plan going? Have you hit Leviticus? It can be easy to lose the “big picture” of the Bible sometimes. What do we mean by “Biblical theology?” How does Biblical theology help us understand and interpret the Bible? Ultimately what (or who) is the Bible all about? How does Biblical theology differ from systematic theology? Why do we need both? What are some examples of Biblical theology (e.g. sacrificial lamb, Jesus the Good Shepherd, the prophet, the priest, the king, etc.)? What are some cautions with Biblical theology? (allegorizing & identifying types that aren’t really types, imposing frameworks without sufficient reason, etc.) How does good Biblical theology affect how you preach and teach? How should it affect how people study the Bible? What would be your counsel for a Christian struggling to get through Leviticus or another part of Scripture that can be more difficult to read right now? Listener Questions: Can you explain what it means in 2 Peter 1:11 when it says, “For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”?
