What to expect at a knife show, apart from sausages- Perth knife show 2020

from Fire and Steel · host Toby Murrill

A whirlwind trip to Perth celebrated with knives, fun and sausage of course; Perth knife show and some of best-known knife makers in Australia. I took the opportunity to chat with some of the makers and a few of the customers. I was interested to find out more about when to exhibit at your first knife show, the reasons custom makers and production knife sellers make the large effort to come to shows. Also, what the customer is expecting when they come to a show. From new makers to master smiths, in fact, the first one in Australia. 1st February 2020 I flew to Perth to help at the Perth Knife Show. After flight delays and wondering about coronavirus, I landed Friday evening. After a quick taxi ride with Bjorn from Creative Man, I snuck into my hotel room in the early hours of the morning. I woke ready for an awesome weekend and I wasn't disappointed. The doors opened at 09:00 and the queue was out the door. As normal the show started with the judging of the knives entered for certain categories and lots of applause. The doors open and immediately and are buzzing with anticipation. I've had a lot of conversations in the recent months about what its like to exhibit at a show from first time makers, also as the Perth Knife Show had moved location, there was obviously going to be the question of was it the right move.  So, I thought I'd find out.   I conducted mini-interviews with a good cross-section of maker, new and old, some suppliers and of course customers.
