What to expect from SBTi's net-zero standard for financial institutions

  On the ESG Insider podcast, we routinely hear about the critical role financial institutions play in the low-carbon transition. In this episode we're talking with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to learn about its soon-to-be-finalized net-zero standard for financial institutions.  SBTi is a widely recognized organization for companies that want to ensure their decarbonization targets align with the latest scientific understanding about climate change. We interview SBTi Cofounder and Chief Technical Officer Alberto Carrillo Pineda, who explains what the organization's net-zero standard for financial institutions will entail and the unique challenges financial institutions face in setting and implementing science-based targets.  "The reason why we have decided to develop a framework for financial institutions is because of the central role that financial institutions play in enabling the current economy, but also in enabling the transition that our economy needs to undergo to stabilize global warming," Alberto tells us.
