Nadia Romanos speaks to writer and producer of ‘Cabrini', Rod Barr. The film, releasing on International Women’s Day, is inspired by the true story of Francesca Cabrini, who became the Patron Saint of Immigrants and the first ever American Saint.Cabrini was an Italian immigrant, who went to New York in 1889, witnessed the disease and poverty in the slums there, and set off to persuade the mayor to provide housing and healthcare for orphaned children. Over the course of 34 years, she established 67 hospitals, orphanages, and schools. In honour of Cabrini’s giving nature, they also have a Pay it Forward campaign, where you can pay for someone else’s movie ticket who might not otherwise have had the means to go to cinema.
