When a Marriage No Longer Fits

When a marriage no longer fits, it might not be weird. It might even make sense. This episode was originally recorded in late 2021, a few months before my divorce date. I found myself feeling vulnerable and afraid, alongside the contrasting awareness that this was the right move. And then as I got closer, and even now that the divorce is just a few months around the corner, it's getting louder in here like… Oh no, where's my security? I mean, it's what we want. It's what we say we want. We need the other to be okay in life. We need a man to be fulfilled or happy or taken care of. All of the things that go into that. For a man, I don't know what it is for him because I'm not a man. So I'm speaking from woman-of-a-certain age point of view. And you know, now this time in life. What once made sense may not make the same sense now. People change. After a couple of decades raising children, and striving for the things we're supposed to strive for, it’s not surprising that two people might find they no longer share the same connection or direction. The expectation that a relationship should remain unchanged for a lifetime begins to feel unrealistic.
