Continuing with his series tackling narcissism and its effect on modern relationships, John asks who are the people that are drawn to a narcissistic personality? What is displayed by narcissists that draws a potential partner in, why are they not immediately visible as a narcissist and what sort of personality do narcissists target? KEY TAKEAWAYS A narcissist will offer generosity and kindness to draw a person in only to withdraw it later, returning to it if they sense their target pulling away.   If you are not in a good place when you meet them a narcissist will target you in the role of rescuer or saviour.  An emotionally healthy individual is perceived as a threat by a narcissist to their sense of self resulting in them fault finding or fault creating to cement their sense of superiority. Narcissists create a trauma bond with their victims by alternating idolising one moment and devaluing the next.  To regain a lost relationship a narcissist will revert to old behaviours, offer previously refused gifts or become temporarily emotionally present. BEST MOMENTS ‘Thinking that a narcissist actually cares about them because of the good moments, these good moments are, however, false and manipulative and the mask of these will drop more and more frequently.’  ‘Initially, a truly kind and open-hearted person can be appealing to a narcissist as they think they can get them on their side to be able to use them for their own needs. As time moves on, however, the narcissist realises that they are genuinely nicer and better than they are and this threatens their sense of self.’ ‘As time goes on they lose their sense of self, feel inadequate and become dependent on the feedback they receive from the narcissist.’ ‘if you had a parent that you wanted to please and accepted a level of behaviour that made you feel you didn’t deserve much more you are more susceptible to the narcissist.’   VALUABLE RESOURCES Link to previous episode - What is Narcissism? - The Relationship Guy - Omny.fm links: www.johnkennycoaching.com The Bicycle Affect:  https://youtu.be/oO7XZGvdWno Video Course with 1-2-1 coaching - https://the-relationship-guy.teachable.com/purchase?product_id=3607138 Video Course –  https://the-relationship-guy.teachable.com/purchase?product_id=3607134 Link to my workshop -   https://www.johnkennycoaching.com/5- things-you-need-to-create-a-healthy-loving-relationship/ To get in touch - email –  [email protected]  or book a complimentary call –  https://calendly.com/johnkennycoaching/30min If people want to order a copy of the book then they can just pay postage of £4.95 (RRP £8.99) - www.johnkennycoaching.com/podcast-book-offer Want to be able to address the relationship issues in your life? - Why not book in for a complimentary call and we can discuss how you can get the new started with some new types of relationships - https://calendly.com/johnkennycoaching/30min The Relationship Guy Podcast - https://omny.fm/shows/the-relationship-guy         ABOUT THE HOST I am John Kenny, Award Winning Relationship Coach.Coaching people to experience healthy loving relationships. Brother Blaq1-" The Relationship Guy" Rob Gregg My podcast is about relationships and family. My goal is to help people make the right choice in mate selection. The only way we can grow as people is to look at our own lives and confront the truth. The saying is true, " the truth can set you free!! When we are totally free from the past, then and only then can we attract the right "purpose mate". Together with Nikhil Chinapa Nikhil Chinapa Together is a way of celebrating the relationship between you guys, the community that makes this show so special, and us, the team that puts the show together. Together, we/'re going to do amazing things. The FootPol Podcast Francesco Belcastro and Guy Burton The podcast that brings together football and politics. We'll be exploring the relationship between the two, both inside and outside the game. The podcast covers "Big Politics" like politicians, clubs, international and national federations and other organised groups and how they use or abuse the game to "Small, Everyday Politics" in the form of community-level clubs, fan associations and the way that football reflects the political challenges of our day to day lives. The FootPol Podcast is brought to you by co-hosts Drs Francesco Belcastro and Guy Burton. The Billy Madison Show Cristine Billy holds a Master’s Degree in Business from American International University and attended Mankato State in Minnesota, but don’t hold that against him. He is a collector of Star Wars memorabilia, autographs (seriously), and a self-admitted ”dork” (but in a cool way of course). Derek is Billy’s ”right hand man” and offers his opinion on many topics but he will honestly admit he’s ”not a political expert or expert on a lot of things” and ”never went to college” but neither did Bill Gates (ok Gates went, but dropped out) but so what? ”Nard” (also known as Nathan) is a former listener of the show that was given a job after Billy helped him find a girlfriend. The relationship with the girl didn’t last but Billy and the guys liked Nard’s ”wit” and offered him a chance to be on the show one day and he never left. Nard has won over 50 Gold Medals in The Special Olympics and supports causes that help place special needs individuals in appropriate jobs and careers, just as he has done.
