Why Do Double Standards Exist?

Double standards are everywhere. They're in the workplace, in relationships and in everyday ordinary life. But why? We have expectations of what society expects. However sometimes expectations breed unrealistic expectations of people. These standards are not fair or realistic and we tend to put people down because of them. These unfair expectations set rules and restrictions on people that shouldn't exist. In reality in many ways some double standards exist due to old fashioned thinking and old traditions.
