Why Everybody left Religion in the West

In this podcast we discuss different elements of the world we are in today and how what shaped them in the past. For the first 30 minutes we talk about the nature of vision and leadership and how it relates to purpose and drive. How the role of man is to embody these qualities in his life and the different ways he can live them out for good or bad. We draw on the analogy of horsemanship to relate this proper role of masculinity in relation to reality and touch upon the reflexive nature of femininity towards such a life. This includes a brief inclusion of rationalism and logic as well as husbandry. Following the articulation of vision, we discuss the lack thereof of its application in our society today in companies and governance, and how society does not promote or raise it. How the advantage of religion, though disparaged against in our society does promote such vision and its natural influence on culture and it does it well for all people of varying capacities in society. We culminate this brief discussion by making use of these themes to discuss one of the fundamental limitations in the Jordan Peterson model and approach for dealing with woke culture in society. This introduces the notions of the chaos of the left, and the rigidity of the right and how they interplay. At 0:30:08 we start to discuss one way of looking at the fallout of religion and spirituality in the western world as seen from where we are today. We start by discussing the nature of medieval Europe was comprised of a centralized religious moral society run by a fragmented decentralized governance that worked well together in bringing about a relative peace amongst many different cultures and peoples which was all founded on the importance and preeminence of relationships. This was slowly taken apart by the renaissance and the rise of modernism, and the reformation and decentralization of moral responsibility. This created a relativistic continental Europe which undermined the unity of Chrisitan religion in society which promoted intellectualism and the sciences which was an attempt to find something firm to lean decisions off of. This resulted in the contention between modernism and the Catholic church which spawned the conflict between religion and secular culture which eventually lead to revolutions as the society would seek to pull itself from their moral, traditional foundations to that of a new rational ordering. World war 1 was the culmination of this conflict in Europe where Britain, France, America, and Italy were secular and were seeking to wipe out Germany and Austro-Hungary which were very traditional and based in morality. This conflict between modernism and religion split society down the center, where as the secularists gained power in countries they would seek to take education, healthcare, and morality from religion which traditionally ran such institutions in Europe. This lead to a reorganizing of language and introduction of this into the education system in the name of creating an academic foundation to replace that which Christianity was running. We make use of Jordan Peterson's use of language to describe him as a modernist rather than a religious individual though he sincerely searches for religion and leads many to religion himself. We further discuss religion as both a spiritual entity but also a human institution and the importance of goodness. How angels and demons could be understood by intellectuals when approaching wokeism and modernism and how they as concepts have a life of their own, but also how each person embodies them. We elaborate on what comprises modern ways of doing things, and its advantage for pushing for progress. Pursuing ideals regardless of the dignity of the human person and morality. We end the podcast with a discussion of reading the classics (Dante, Shakespeare, Goethe) how to read, consumption of information and meaning, as well as adding purpose to it.
