We all have our own ‘apology language’ which denotes the nature and style of the apologies we give and receive. However, there are those who find it very difficult to apologise at all. John explains the reasons why some people find this fairly regular social and relational occurrence so difficult.    KEY TAKEAWAYS People can feel courageous and less passive if they refuse to offer an apology. They feel they are ‘standing their ground’.  Some people cannot deal with being seen as at fault. They see an apology as humiliating.  Many are never told they are in the wrong as children so are untrained at being able to navigate an apology scenario. Also, constant humiliating apologies as a child may result in an adult refusing to repeat that experience. The fight, flight or freeze stress response can see them adopting one of these three actions in a confrontational situation, none of which will result in an apology.   BEST MOMENTS ‘So you’ve probably experienced times when people have found it really hard to say sorry and I know that can actually be quite annoying, upsetting, distressing and difficult to accept.’  ‘So they may have seen it modelled, but problems are not resolved. Things just get swept under the carpet. No apologies were ever offered to them, it wasn’t something that ever happened in their lives.’ ‘To hold the upper hand in a relationship is crucial to some people because to them it can literally mean their emotional survival. Yes indeed, survival is the right word because those who need to be in control or a position of power will manipulate a scenario in order to maintain a sense of self.’ ‘Gaslighting is a term widely used to describe how someone will try to make you responsible for everything and to question your own sanity in order that they can feel exempt themselves from any responsibility.’    VALUABLE RESOURCES If you want to order a copy of my book The P.E.O.P.L.E. Brother Blaq1-" The Relationship Guy" Rob Gregg My podcast is about relationships and family. My goal is to help people make the right choice in mate selection. The only way we can grow as people is to look at our own lives and confront the truth. The saying is true, " the truth can set you free!! When we are totally free from the past, then and only then can we attract the right "purpose mate". Together with Nikhil Chinapa Nikhil Chinapa Together is a way of celebrating the relationship between you guys, the community that makes this show so special, and us, the team that puts the show together. Together, we/'re going to do amazing things. The FootPol Podcast Francesco Belcastro and Guy Burton The podcast that brings together football and politics. We'll be exploring the relationship between the two, both inside and outside the game. The podcast covers "Big Politics" like politicians, clubs, international and national federations and other organised groups and how they use or abuse the game to "Small, Everyday Politics" in the form of community-level clubs, fan associations and the way that football reflects the political challenges of our day to day lives. The FootPol Podcast is brought to you by co-hosts Drs Francesco Belcastro and Guy Burton. The Billy Madison Show Cristine Billy holds a Master’s Degree in Business from American International University and attended Mankato State in Minnesota, but don’t hold that against him. He is a collector of Star Wars memorabilia, autographs (seriously), and a self-admitted ”dork” (but in a cool way of course). Derek is Billy’s ”right hand man” and offers his opinion on many topics but he will honestly admit he’s ”not a political expert or expert on a lot of things” and ”never went to college” but neither did Bill Gates (ok Gates went, but dropped out) but so what? ”Nard” (also known as Nathan) is a former listener of the show that was given a job after Billy helped him find a girlfriend. The relationship with the girl didn’t last but Billy and the guys liked Nard’s ”wit” and offered him a chance to be on the show one day and he never left. Nard has won over 50 Gold Medals in The Special Olympics and supports causes that help place special needs individuals in appropriate jobs and careers, just as he has done.
