Today we’re going to talk about how stress can actually make you fat. I’ve had some diabetics test their blood sugars when they go through stress, and stress seems to elevate the blood sugars, but why? Your body’s response to stress is spiking cortisol. Cortisol has the potential to significantly raise your blood sugars. You could be on the keto diet and doing everything right, but your blood sugars are still going up. This could be because of stress or trauma. Stress side effects on weight loss: • Cortisol can release glucose from your liver. • It deaminates protein, which means it basically breaks down protein and turns it into glucose. • Cortisol can lower your insulin sensitivity, which can lead to inulin resistance. • Cortisol will drive the storage of fat to your midsection. This could be why people with a lot of stress end up with weight gain around their midsection.
