Wolfe Foundation Funds $175M Aquarium
from Columbus News Today | 2 Min News | The Daily News Now!
Columbus Zoo is unveiling its most ambitious project yet: a $175 million standalone aquarium, the John F. Wolfe Aquarium, set to open in 2029 after breaking ground in 2027. Funded in part by a record $50 million gift from the Wolfe Foundation — the largest ever received by any zoo or aquarium in the country — the facility will house over 10,000 aquatic creatures across 27 exhibits, including first-of-its-kind galleries for the Amazon River Basin and the Scioto River. Designed to inspire global conservation and built with sustainability in mind, the aquarium will also feature a Pacific Northwest tide pool and Indo-Pacific Reef exhibit. Existing zoo aquatic life will be relocated to the new facility, supported by a new conservation and acclimation center. The Wolfe family’s legacy of civic investment, dating back to the zoo’s founding in 1926, continues with this transformative gift for Columbus.
