Such hasty categorizations can be limiting and even harmful. The term "neurodiversity" has emerged to champion a more accepting perspective towards diverse cognitive functions and experiences. While it's crucial not to merely pay lip service to this concept, genuinely trying to understand and empathize with someone's unique experience can be transformative for mental health practitioners and patients alike.Moreover, it's essential not to be dismissive about one's cultural traditions, especially in places with rich cultural histories. An Anglo-Saxon-educated psychiatrist might have a different perspective on certain spiritual experiences compared to someone rooted deeply in local traditions. Embracing local cultural contexts can provide a fuller understanding. The acceptance and celebration of neurodiversity can help us respect and value diverse spiritual experiences, breaking free from preconceived judgments.
