Your Story

from Find and Tell · host iHeart Australia & BlakCast Podcast Network

This episode is about courage, reinvention, and taking the road less travelled. Proud Larrakia and Meriam Mir storyteller Aaliyah-Jade Bradbury begins her journey in a plumbing supply store, steel caps on and hair in a “don’t talk to me” bun. On the surface, it was just a job. But beneath the routine was a quiet ache, the feeling that life was slowly shrinking her world. Aaliyah’s story is a powerful reminder that dreams rarely come wrapped in certainty. Through a single moment by the water with a friend, she begins to see that the life she is living is not the one she is meant for. That moment becomes the catalyst for a leap into the unknown — trading stability for possibility, and eventually, walking a path that would lead to her becoming the first Indigenous woman to win an International Emmy. It is a story about grief dressed as comfort, about the fear of starting over, and the strength it takes to listen to the voice inside that says “you were made for more.” Raw, funny, and deeply human, Aaliyah’s journey shows us that sometimes the most important stories we tell are the ones we write for ourselves.   NRMA Insurance, proud supporters of First Nations’ storytelling.
