Chapter 18: A Maul – Shadow Lord Sandwich

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord really set the tone for a universe that is grand in its vision, execution, and storytelling. We touch on other animated series like before, but we also began to scratch the surface of our resident Star Wars Sommelier John. He gives us some very keen and delightful insight into where he felt the series was going (recorded before the final episodes came out) and how he sees it moving forward. We also delve into the idea of how even with superb animation, the storytelling aspect of any movie must also be good. Of course, there are nuggets of other shows and comics that we love...and Batman. Dammit, it always comes back to that guy, and we LOVE it!Three dudes talk about cool shit in regards to art, comics, movies, pop culture, and a menagerie of other goodies. Chapter 17: Two Cons and a Toy Unboxing

The artists of the 10ton Pod frequent comic conventions fairly often, and last month went to a couple that were both meaningful in their own right. One was the Latinx Comic Arts Festival in Modesto California. Manuel has been helping with this Festival for the better part of a decade. It is one of the larger Latino festivals in California, and it's free for the patrons and the artists. The other convention was Wondercon in Anaheim, CA. This is a con that helps gauge what to expect for the July Comic Con in San Diego. It's a timely barometer into the psyche of consumers, and also their pocketbooks. And, the Blokee Transformers toy unboxing. It's a 12-pack of toys in a special box that John miraculously didn't open until we recorded. Listen in as the old Gen Xers talk ad nauseam about how awesome the toys, and the Transformers are. Tune in for a bit and chill. Three dudes talk about cool shit in regards to art, comics, movies, pop culture, and a menagerie of other goodies. Blokee Unboxing ***Bonus Content***

This is video that was recorded during the unboxing from chapter 17. You can see the Blokee collectibles being fought over gladiator style as Manuel, John, and Kirk battle over the figures...and by gladiator style we mean have a cordial, border line Canadian, talk about which figurines they want to keep. It's quite cool to live a little bit of nostalgia and childhood with the Transformers collectibles, and also great to hear Manuel getting caught by his wife watching the old Transformers cartoon. Enjoy.Three dudes talk about cool shit in regards to art, comics, movies, pop culture, and a menagerie of other goodies. Chapter 16: Gatekeepers, Current Creative Crises, and Dream Jobs.

John enlightens Kirk and Manuel by regaling them with tales of the Seattle Seahawks, which then leads them down a tunnel of sports they like and watching, which then leads to a pissed off John and going off about the dick gatekeepers in comics. But that is just where the fun begins. The gatekeepers are the ones who don't allow for the creatives to be creative to get shit done. But then there's always people you meet at cons, or folks you may interact with who appreciate you, or your art, or just love art in general. And finally, what is your dream job? The answers that the boys provide are pretty fucking amazing. I mean, Kirk wants to be an astronaut, John wants to be a wide receiver in the NFL, and  Manuel was to be a kick ass working artist that draws for a living...wait a second. And maybe, sorry, it should be finally, finally, the boys talk about process. Maybe there's more. We don't know. Just listen, it will be fun. Three dudes talk about cool shit in regards to art, comics, movies, pop culture, and a menagerie of other goodies. Chapter 15: Animation and the Cape and Cowl Convention: Part Two

The second half of our conversation involves some Batman reminiscing, Voltron, The Adventures of Gumball, Bebe's Kids, and the overall evolution of animation and storytelling. We also have and going to a smaller con in the city of Alameda called The Cape and Cowl. The con was held at a brewery and had the feel of an old school con where people were there for the love of comics, meeting others, celebrating the art in all its forms, and really focusing on what is important in the comic field. Enjoy.Three dudes talk about cool shit in regards to art, comics, movies, pop culture, and a menagerie of other goodies. Chapter 14: Animation and the Cape and Cowl Convention: Part One

We grew up on Saturday morning cartoons and cereal, and in this episode we talk about all of our favorites. From Cringer to Gumball, we detail the animations that we love, as well as the actual format, style, and voice acting. Part One:Cartoons and comics were a major part of our lives, and definitely influenced our styles. Tune in and join us as we venture down that nostalgic cartoon road while bringing it to its current place. Three dudes talk about cool shit in regards to art, comics, movies, pop culture, and a menagerie of other goodies. Chapter 13: A Review of The Fantastic Four: First Steps

This episode we reviewed The Fantastic Four: First Steps. All we can say is that this is a glorious film. It’s a magnificent display of style and story telling. The pace in which the movie was done, the cgi used for the characters was amazing, and we finally got an actual Galactus, not a tropical space storm. The stylization, story, acting, and heart behind this film is remarkable. It can't be stated enough. The care and concern given to each member helped enhance the overall story and team fabric. This movie had humor, heart, and was a great follow up to The Thunderbolts.Give it a listen. Three dudes talk about cool shit in regards to art, comics, movies, pop culture, and a menagerie of other goodies. Chapter 12: An Apology to Edi Gathegi (AKA: A Review of Superman)

First and foremost, Mr. Terrific was the star of this movie. And, oddly enough, we forgot to mention anything about Edi Gathegi's magnificent performance. He WAS God Damned Mr. Terrific and we didn't say anything about him. 100% our bad. And, the rest of this review is just fucking pointless, but listen anyway. Just jokes. This movie did so much for our overall psyche. It was bright, hopeful, beautiful, and human. This was the feel and style that we were hoping for from Superman. It's what we needed from Superman. Hope. This movie felt grounded. It had a firm foundation on which to build. The environments were real which made the story and movie more believable. It kept us in that world. The characters in the movie all brought it. The action, the acting, and the roles they played, all went into this incredible kick off for the new DCU. And, Mr. Terrific was amazing. Can't be stated enough...unless you didn't fucking state it in the podcast reviewing the movie that he was in. Give it a listen, and don't forget to keep doing more of what you love. Three dudes talk about cool shit in regards to art, comics, movies, pop culture, and a menagerie of other goodies. Chapter 11: Andor and Predator: Killer of Killers

John, Manny, and Kirk discuss the latest installment in the Star Wars franchise, Andor. It was really an amazing show and really helped ground the Star Wars franchise outside Jedi and the force. It's such a beautiful story filled with love, hope, despair, uncertainty, and the fledgling development of the Rebellion that helped overthrow the Empire. No role or character was wasted. And, the reimaging of an old tale with the sophisticated and stylish animated movie, Predator: Killer of Killers. The premise of this movie asks "What happens to all of the "prey" that bested the Predator trying to kill them?" The characters, environments, and authentic nature of each story within the film makes this one of the most interesting and overarching Predator movies to date. And, with the post credits scene of "Naru" from Prey, the next movies in this franchise are completely wide opened for repeats of all surviving prey from past Predator films. So tune in and enjoy. Three dudes talk about cool shit in regards to art, comics, movies, pop culture, and a menagerie of other goodies. Chapter 10: Daredevil:Born Again...Again, Sinners, Create Something, and Manny Asks a Question (Not a Segment Though)

This chapter takes us waaaaaay back to our last episode (Phew! Way way back). We talk about Daredevil:Born Again on Disney+ once again. This show was really well done and makes for great conversation. There are some spoilers, so just a heads up. Ryan Coogler's sinners is a cinematic masterpiece according to Kirk. We speak on the gap that is in Hollywood of marginalized folk creation. Ryan Coogler is not only a great director, he is a great director who is Black. Is this step taken by Warner Bros. enough of a milestone for other studios to follow suit by giving other marginalized people a shot at "independent" style films? We hope so. It would be great for the industry. And Manuel asks a question. It would be nice to make this a regular segment on the show. We value Manuel's input so much since he is the elder statesman of the group. To hear the question, and the fella's responses, tune in and listen. Three dudes talk about cool shit in regards to art, comics, movies, pop culture, and a menagerie of other goodies. Chapter 09: A Review of Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+ (Episodes 1-3)

**SPOILER WARNING: If you haven't seen DD:BA, then there are spoilers you may not want to hear...and you need to watch that shit ASAP. **Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+ picks up right where the Netflix shows left off. We see Carlton...errrr Wilson Fisk (if you listen you'll get this joke) and Matt Murdock pick up right where they left off. There is a mutual respect between the two of them, but also and understanding that either of them will do what they have to in order to do what they believe to be right. The acting is amazing. The story is great. And, as the series has finished, there were many thoughts in this podcast about the future of the show (episodes 4-9) that did come to fruition. This series is about people being unapologetically themselves, good or bad, and having to continually keep their extreme natures in check in order to be deemed "acceptable" or "normal" by society's standards. However, some of that nature can not be put in check no matter how much we want to change. Do we fight that nature that may not be deemed fit with all our might, or give in to the weight of its conviction?"I was raised to believe in grace that we can be transformed into a better person, but i was also raised to believe in retribution." - Matt MurdockThree dudes talk about cool shit in regards to art, comics, movies, pop culture, and a menagerie of other goodies. Chapter 08: Talking more Wolverine, Kirk was Wrong, and What is Exciting Us this Summer

This is a continuation from the last Chapter (Episode). Listen here if you missed itWe continue talking about Wolverine and how his character could have been/done so much more in the MCU. Old Man Logan and Weapon X are such great stories and it would have been awesome to see those in live action. And, who knows, we might. (until your 90!)Also, Kirk mentions Amalgam, the gawd awful Marvel and DC crossover that was at best just awful. That's all we will say about that. And, last but definitely not least, Summer Blockbusters are back...we hope. We talk all about what movies are getting us pumped. The MCU is making a surge with Captain America BNW, Daredevil: BA (Netflix's Marvel shows are canon), Thunderbolts*, and Fantastic Four to name a few. But the one that got us really excited was Superman. Yes, the titular Man of Steel is back!! And, it couldn't be at a better time. This world needs hope. We need to aspire to more than what we are now. And, this movie shows the Kryptonian in his full 1970s glory, red trunks and all. James Gunn made Guardians of the Galaxy, the Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and Creature Commandos ALL cool. Given the vast history of the Kal-El, we think that Superman will make us hope again. It's a fun episode filled. Be sure to listen. This episode will talk about the fall of Diamond publishing and what repercussions will come with that for smaller comics and publishers. What are some different ways to get comics out and what does this hold for the future. And finally, talking Deadpool & Wolverine. It's not going to be a magnificant break down of the movie with easter eggs and all that, but rather an accounting of what we liked or disliked about the movie. Like, where the fuck is Cable during this time traveling movie? Always a good listen and a fun time. Three dudes talk about cool shit in regards to art, comics, movies, pop culture, and a menagerie of other goodies. Chapter 06: An In Depth Review of MAX's The Penguin

Matt Reeve's The Batman birthed one of the most unique and interesting characters that hadn't really been explored before. With only about 10 minutes of screen time, Colin Farrell's version of Oswald Cobb(lepot) was so impactful that they created a series for that character aptly called, The Penguin on MAX.This show did a deep dive into the psyche of Oswald and how he went from a poor nobody to the underground crime King of Gotham. And, the underbelly of Gotham is truly exposed like it hasn't been before in any series, even the show Gotham that ran for on the CW for a bit. We take a look back at our highlights of this show in a fun spoiler filled chat about one of Gotham's most underrated characters, and "villains". Chapter 05: Beauty is Embarrassing Documentary with guest Debra Naeve

On this podcast, Debra Naeve joins us to talk about her former school alumnus, Wayne White while we dive into his documentary "Beauty Is Embarrassing."We also talk about how Debra isn't a witch, and also what makes Wayne White's approach to life and art so refreshing and inspiring. "Art" is creation. It is the means to do and make something you like. At some point, artists have to start looking at their work as a means of commodity as opposed to. a means of expression. How do we embrace that little kid that was a kick ass artist? That kid who didn't care what others thought, and that they just loved to make art. It's a series of peers and other doubts that are cast over time and then begins to weigh on most. Moral of the story, just make art and make do what you would like. And, as Manuel says, "It's easy to break things. It's hard to create things."Keep creatin' y'all. Three dudes talk about cool shit in regards to art, comics, movies, pop culture, and a menagerie of other goodies. Chapter 04: Client Feedback, Batman Day, and The Penguin

One of the biggest problems...errrrr fun frustrations with doing any type of artwork for clients. We really want to make clients happy, but also realize that sometimes their "vision" may get in the way of the artist interpretation. Such a fine line to walk. Also, Manuel had a chance to be a featured artist at one of his local comic stores on Batman Day. The print that he made for that is siiiiiiiiiiiiiick. And, the Penguin. The new show on HBO Max adapted from the Oswald Cobb  character in Matt Reeves' The Batman with Robert Pattinson. This show is so good looking into the mind of Oswald and how his brain works. It's not your Burgess Meredith Penguin with the hat and monocle and long cigarette. It's your chess playing, ruthless, I am better than you Penguin. "I will make myself small, so they can feel big." Oh, so so sinister. Enjoy.Three dudes talk about cool shit in regards to art, comics, movies, pop culture, and a menagerie of other goodies.
