A Life Indigenous
by A Life Indigenous
Living "a life Indigenous" is really a look at my experience of being labelled as a great many things, from School teachers, Doctors, Nun's, Priests, social workers to being told I am too Brown to be White and too White to be Brown. Managing the expectations of the colonised mind, trying hard to be something I wasn't and finally landing on the idea that "I am that I am!" Māori, Samoan, Cook Island and sooo much more, what is it that brings the children of the four winds together in history and tradition? This is MY life indigenous!

“Scribbles”
Colonisation is at its worst when it’s internalised, when it’s your own personal oppression that digs its claws in deep, and makes us view our own people with disdain. We become the thing we are supposed to fight against, it’s when Moko turns to “scribbles” and self hatred rules.

"Indigenous Addiction"
A stereotype worth discussing, a real life issue in a spiritual war to fit in with people who don't want you to be unique, when we "fit" it comes at the cost of truly belonging. What''s left, but to find ways to dull, hide, escape from a pain you didn't have a hand in creating? But still living in the consequence of?

"Invisible people"
"Invisible people" is how some view the Indigenous Nations around the world, and that suits those who don't want to deal with the reality of their own attitudes and where history has placed them. The scariest manifestation of that is when its a goal to hide who we are in plain sight, the idea of just "blending in."

"Religiosity" totally a made up word I created after recording this podcast, but the theme is a real one. Religion vs belief? Our host Tuari Dawson shares his personal journey of a life indigenous. you can also reach us on Instagram on "A Life Indigenous Podcast"
