Across the Kitchen Table with Elwood Brant
by elwoodbrant
Everybody has a story to tell. And there was a time when we would share those stories around the kitchen table. Laughing, telling jokes, talking about the events of the day. Heated debates, tragic loss, living life. The kitchen table is where we could share our lives. So come sit with me and my friends as conversation unfolds across the kitchen table.

If there was ever an episode to listen to...it's this one! My sister and I are a hoot! (At least, we think so.) Our discussion goes all over the place, but one specific and heavy topic is childhood trauma. Whether it's from a parent, bullies at school, or some other event, childhood trauma can have a lasting impact on a person. Nadine Burke Harris gives a good TedTalk on the subject. Do you have any extra event tickets? Like sports games, concerts, cultural events... My friend Brandy works for a charity called Tickets For Kids and they are always looking for unused tickets to events that can be passed along to kids who might not get to experience the same things that other kids might. It can be anything from a baseball game to a symphony concert. Listen to this episode for more information and to hear Brandy's story... Intro music courtesy of BackgroundMusicForVideos

Katya
In our current culture of fear and discrimination against our neighbors to the south, it is important to realize that we are all human. The United States is a country of immigrants and our past record has shown that we do not treat them well. "You fear what you don't know." If we take time to listen to each other's stories, we will find a beauty, strength, and resolve in those who venture into the unknown. Katya's story is already remarkable, facing loss and pain at every turn (not to mention that she is from Mexico.) Yet, her spirit is an inspiration. With two young children, thousands of miles away from family and friends in Mexico, the culture and language differences... you would never be able to tell from meeting her, what she has gone through to get where she is today. I am honored to call her a friend and I invite you to take account of her story. Intro music courtesy of BackgroundMusicForVideos
