American Street (Asmr)

The compelling story of a American-Haitian girl trying to get her mother back

  1. 4

    American Street EP. 4: Language

In the final episode of American Street: Anaya, Abisai, and Arianna go into the meaning of language not just when it comes to what cultures it drives from but also how it can determine the people we all surround ourselves with, the way our personality is, basically more than just talking. We really into Fabiola's personality and her journey from being a proper speaking girl not knowing that much English when she arrives to America and learning how to become a "teenager" with the help of her cousins and soon to be boyfriend, Kasim. We also touch on how language can also affect the way others act towards another specific group of people.

  2. 3

American Street EP. 3: Explicit Bias

In this episode we discuss the opposite of implicit bias which is Explicit Bias. We use Fabiola as our prime example of this when it comes to her explicit bias of her cousins drug dealing and how she openly (not to them but to herself) doesn't approve of it. When Fabiola begins to work alongside the detective to get some answers on the drug dealing of Dray, she runs into a few problems of not wanting to put her family name on the line if they become suspects.  Anaya, Abisai, and Arianna also go into detail on how we each have our form of explicit bias towards something that could've affected us personally.

  3. 2

American Street EP. 2: Implicit Bias

In this episode we talk about implicit bias and how it affects us all as people but we are unaware of it. We discuss about the deaths of Dray and Kasim and how implicit bias from the officer may affect the tragic shooting that happened. How the officer could have had an implicit bias towards black individuals since he shot Kasim first, thinking he was Dray. It could just be a huge misunderstanding but it also comes with a huge price to pay as well. We also go into the discussion of these topics as well as real world examples from we see in the media.

  4. 1

    American Street EP. 1: Advocacy

This first episode consists of us: Anaya, Elsy, Arianna, Jackie, Imani, and Abisai sharing our thoughts on what it truly means to be an advocate. What are the struggles certain individuals go through when it comes to advocating, as well as some examples from Abisai. We go into a discussion about Fabiola advocating for her mother who was kept in New Jersey by immigration and how similar occurrences have happened to other people.
