Gabrielle and Ariana speak to the former Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem, Fleur  Hassan-Nahoum, during their time abroad in Israel. They discuss her experience in choosing her career, her career trajectory, her work-life experience and the context of how a career in politics  could look in Israel.  Fleur grew up in Gibraltar and studied law at King's College, London University. She qualified as a barrister in Middle Temple and practiced in London before immigrating to Israel in 2001. Before joining politics, Fleur worked in the Jewish nonprofit world and created her own communications consulting business. In May 2016 Fleur became a City Councilor in Jerusalem and in February 2017 the leader of the Opposition. In November 2018 Fleur was re-elected to the Jerusalem Municipal Council and was appointed Deputy Mayor for foreign relations, economic development, and tourism. Fleur co-founded the UAE-Israel Business Council and the Gulf Israel Women’s Forum in 2020. Since September 2023, Fleur has been serving as Israel's special envoy for innovation. She is the first woman to be appointed as Secretary General for Kol Israel. Fleur recently joined the Misgav Institute for National Security and Zionist Strategy as a senior fellow and sits on the international advisory council. Fleur completed her tenure as Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem in March, 2024, and she remains involved in the advancement of women's rights and marginalized populations in the city, through economic development and the fight for a pluralistic Jerusalem. She went on to obtain her Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland and has worked as an attorney for more than 30 years representing companies engaged in the construction industry. She and her husband, Marty, are partners in the law firm of Shuham & Shuham, P.A. in downtown Hollywood. Vice Mayor Shuham is Florida Bar board certified in construction law. The Vice Mayor is a member of the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization Board, the Broward County Climate Change Task Force, and the Broward County Condominium Structural Issues Committee. She is recognized as a Florida League of Cities Home Rule Hero, Broward County School Board Outstanding Mentor of the Year  and is a Hollywood Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member. Kenigsberg, the president of the Holocaust Documentation & Education Center, about raising a family and her incredible 40+ year career caring for survivors and ensuring their stories live on to educate future generations. The Hon. Rositta Ehrlich Kenigsberg is the President of the Holocaust Documentation and Education Center in South Florida. In 1981, she founded the first Children of Holocaust Survivors Group of Southeastern Florida From 1983-1986, Mrs. Kenigsberg one of six Second Generation Advisors to nobel laureate, Elie Wiesel. In 1990, she again served with Eli Wiesel as  one of the four Founding Members of the North American Advisory Board of the "March of the Living” program. In 1994, Rosita wrote and spearheaded legislation that led to the passing of State of Florida Statute 1003.42. which mandates Holocaust Education for all Florida students from K-20 and provides teacher training and resources. For over two decades, Ms. Kenigsberg has been a leading advocate nationally and internationally to secure Long-Term Home Health Care for the Aging Holocaust Survivors. In 1998, Senator Bill Nelson, appointed Mrs. Kenigsberg to serve on Florida’s Steering Committee to assist the Florida Department of Insurance to implement the Holocaust Victim’s Insurance Act which she also helped author and pass. In 1996, Ms. Kenigsberg received a Presidential Appointment from then President Bill Clinton to serve as a member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, (USHMM).  Over the years, she has served and continues to serve on numerous Boards including President of the International Network of Children of Holocaust Su This past January, Ms. Kenigsberg proudly announced a partnership with the USC Shoah Foundation, founded by Steven Spielberg, which “will ensure that the HDEC Oral History Collection will be preserved and available throughout the world in perpetuity, thanks to the extraordinary generosity of the Jim Moran Foundation for which all of us at the HDEC are tremendously grateful”.
