Care for Ohio : The Podcast

Over the course of this campaign, I've met so many folks in Ohio and across the country whose stories, experiences and commitment to our democracy have made an impact on me. I wanted a way to share these conversations that goes beyond a caption on social media or a snippet in a newsletter. So we're excited to bring you Care for Ohio: the Podcast. I hope you'll join us for this discussion and many more in the months to come.

Care for Ohio Episode 14: Ashley & Sara of United SHE Stands

Ashley Kindsvatter & Sara Petrie met working in IT, but bonded over a shared interest in politics. When they decided they wanted to learn more, and do more to share what they were learning with others, they started a podcast, United SHE Stands, that has taken off since it's inception in 2022. They lead conversations with empathy and compassion, and truly care about the future of our state, and want to bring more folks into the conversation about politics in Ohio. I was honored when they asked me to come on their show early in the campaign, and just as pleased when they agreed to come speak with me for ours now. I hope you enjoy this discussion and check out United SHE Stands! #CareForOhio #HambleyForOhio

Care for Ohio Episode 13: Professor David Niven

David Niven is a professor, writer, and researcher who has spent a large portion of his career diving deep into why Americans vote the way we do, and the laws and decisions that impact our voting habits. He's written and spoken extensively about gerrymandering, so I was thrilled when he agreed to come on the podcast. This was a very fun episode for me, and learning from David was a great honor. I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did. #HambleyForOhio #Voting #CareForOhio #Gerrymandering

Care for Ohio Episode 12: Former Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley

When we think about the impact that gerrymandering and hyper-partisan politics can have on our state, no one knows that reality better than mayors. With their focus on the people of their city, it can be a tough fight against a legislature more interested in playing up partisan issues. Nan Whaley served as the Mayor of Dayton for eight years, served on the city commission, and ran for Governor in 2022. She knows the value of fair maps, and I'm so grateful to have had this conversation! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. #CareForOhioThePodcast #CareForOhio #HambleyForOhio

Care for Ohio Episode 11: Hamilton County Clerk of Courts Pavan Parikh

In the last 8 months, we've had some great discussions with folks around Ohio and the country who understand the importance of ensuring our elections are honest and fair. My friend, Hamilton County Clerk of Courts Pavan Parikh, has experienced how corruption and backroom dealing can play out in Columbus. He served as legal counsel for the Ohio Democratic Senate Caucus during the 2011 redistricting battle. It was a pleasure to sit down with Pavan, and I hope you enjoy this conversation.   #HambleyForOhio #CareForOhio #SecretaryOfState #ElectionLaw #FairMaps

Care for Ohio Episode 10: Shelby County Chair Chris Gibbs

Chris Gibbs, the current Democratic Party chair for Shelby County, and Rural Caucus chair for the Ohio Democratic Party, has a fascinating story: from his time working for the Farm Service Agency, to serving as the Republican Party chair in Shelby County for many years, he's seen the transformation of his former party up close and personal. I've been grateful for the opportunity to get to know Chris over the last year, and have a great respect for the advocacy work that he continues to do on behalf of rural Ohioans. I hope you enjoy this conversation, it was a joy to be out on the farm with Chair Gibbs. #CareForOhio #CareforOhiothePodcast

Care for Ohio Episode 9: Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich

Connie Pillich has spanned many roles in her career: from serving in the Air Force, to flipping a Statehouse District, to being the first Democrat elected as Hamilton County Prosecutor in nearly 100 years. Her advocacy for veterans, and her commitment to our democracy have been a through-line at every step of the way. She saw up close and personal what happens when democracy falls to the wayside, and how important strong teams are to achieving a shared mission. I've learned so much from her in the years I have known her, and I hope you learn something from this conversation too. #HambleyForOhio #CareForOhioThePodcast

Care for Ohio Episode 8: D.J. Byrnes, AKA the Rooster

Before I announced my candidacy for Secretary of State, I have to admit that I was not too familiar with the work of D.J. Byrnes, better known as The Rooster. Very quickly, though, I realized how interesting his approach was to Ohio politics and to getting honest answers out of our politicians. I had a great time chatting with him recently for our newest episode. I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did. #HambleyForOhio #CareForOhio #Podcast

Care For Ohio Episode 7: OAPSE Executive Director Joe Rugola

I first met Joe Rugola days after I announced my candidacy. His deep knowledge of the Labor movement in Ohio, and across the nation, and his kindness and passion for protecting the rights of working people, have been an inspiration and source of so many lessons for me as this campaign has progressed. From his childhood in a Labor household, to his experiences leading OAPSE, and a vision for the future of Ohio's workforce, this was a deeply illuminating discussion for me. I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did. #HambleyForOhio #Solidarity #CareForOhio #1U

Care for Ohio Episode 6: Former Justice Melody Stewart

This week, join me in conversation with former Ohio Supreme Court Justice and current Board of Elections member for Cuyahoga County, Melody Stewart! From her career as a lawyer, teacher, and judge, she has seen the impacts of Ohio's laws and the politicization of our courts on justice in our state. Thanks for listening! #CareForOhio #HambleyForOhio #SecretaryOfState

Care for Ohio Episode 5: Justice Jennifer Brunner

Few people have a better perspective on our democracy than judges. That perspective becomes even richer when that judge has served in the office I am running for, Ohio Secretary of State. This week, I'm honored to welcome Supreme Court of Ohio Justice Jennifer Brunner to the podcast. Justice Brunner served as Ohio's Secretary of State from 2007-2011, and served as a judge on Ohio's 10th District Court of Appeals. I hope you enjoy this discussion as much as I did. #CareForOhio #SupremeCourt #HambleyForOhio #SecretaryofState

Episode 4: Senate Minority Leader Nickie Antonio

In this episode, I sit down with Ohio Senate Minority Leader Nickie Antonio, for a conversation about the importance of democracy (no matter how messy), her fight to abolish the death penalty, and more. From her time serving on Lakewood City Council, to being the first openly LGBTQ person to serve in the Ohio General Assembly, she has fought for representation and fair leadership. I hope you enjoy the conversation.

Care for Ohio Episode 3: Beau Bayh, Candidate for Indiana Secretary of State

For this episode, I had the chance to chat with Beau Bayh, candidate for Indiana Secretary of State. As two first-time candidates for office looking to bring change and a new vision to the role of Secretary of State, it was a great discussion about the future of democracy for Buckeyes and Hoosiers alike. We also got to chat a bit about one of my favorite topics: Indiana sports! Thanks Beau for joining me, and for stepping up for democracy. #HambleyForOhio #SecretaryOfState #CareForOhio

  13. 2

Care for Ohio Episode 2: Pike County Democratic Party

This episode, I'm sitting down for a conversation with Amy Pettit, Chair of the Pike County Democratic Party, and members of her team. We discussed the challenges of organizing in rural Ohio, and what the politicians in Columbus miss when they write policy. Thank you to Chair Pettit, Nancy and Bob for taking time to discuss these important issues impacting our communities. #CareForOhio #PikeCounty #HambleyForOhio
