A Coffee with Chef Adam Brack, Executive Chef at the DoubleTree and Home2 Suites by Hilton West Edmonton

Send us Fan MailJoin us for a coffee and chat with Chef Adam Brack, Executive Chef at the DoubleTree and Home2 Suites by Hilton West Edmonton!Originally from Peterborough, Ontario, Adam initially expected to follow in his father's footsteps into the trades, but his natural affinity for working with his hands eventually found a different outlet. His lifelong love of food was rooted in simple traditions, like the fish and chips he enjoyed every Friday growing up, but it wasn't until a high school Home Economics elective that he truly fell in love with the craft. To this day, Adam still keeps the first recipe he ever wrote framed in his home as a reminder of where it all began.Adam honed his skills at the prestigious Stratford Chefs School, where he went through a rigorous hands-on program. His first year was spent learning every facet of the industry, from washing dishes and prep work to acting as a sommelier while cooking for the school's restaurant. By his second year, the program transitioned into a residency format where students acted as chefs in residence. This allowed them the opportunity to take the lead in the kitchen, giving them the creative freedom to design their own menus and significantly expand their professional cooking abilities. While Adam originally intended to avoid large chain restaurants, a unique opportunity at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge changed his perspective. Having never been to Alberta before, he spent three months working at JPL between his school years and immediately returned to the Rockies upon graduation. Since then, Adam has worked at various renowned kitchens throughout Alberta, leading him to his current role at the DoubleTree. His story is one of craftsmanship and passion, and after hearing it, you will definitely want to stop by for a meal.Let us know your thoughts in the comments and leave us a review!Follow Coffee in the Park with Jennifer and Cam on our social mediasInstagram: https://instagram.com/coffeeintheparkwithjenandcamWebsite: https://www.coffeeinthepark.com YouTube: https://youtube.com/@coffeeintheparkwithjenandcam?si=8Fvb8swofNc1s_GLLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/coffee-in-the-park-podcast/

    A Coffee with Doug Lang!

Send us Fan MailJoin us for a coffee and chat with Doug Lang as he shares a life story that feels like it belongs on the silver screen. Originally from Winnipeg, Doug bypassed a career in his father’s insurance firm to pursue his own passions, first earning a pilot’s license in Vancouver before finding his true calling in policing at age 24. His diverse career on the force spanned from the motor core and detective division to serving as the department’s media spokesperson and working in the vice department, where he spent months filming a documentary on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.Beyond the badge, Doug’s personal life is defined by a cinematic romance with his wife, Georgialee. After meeting at an Italian restaurant and sharing a legendary first date night-skiing, the two lost touch for several years. Their paths eventually crossed again through some intentional police work; having kept tabs on her, Doug pulled Georgialee over on purpose while she was driving to go skiing to reignite their connection. The couple also had to navigate a unique professional overlap early in their marriage, as Doug was arresting individuals while Georgialee was working to get them out of jail. This led to a career transition for Georgialee into family law, while Doug has spent his retirement fueling his lifelong love for machinery by collecting cars and motorcycles. This episode offers a fascinating look at the complexities of police life, the power of a second-chance romance, and the importance of following your own path. To hear the other side of this incredible tale, be sure to listen to Georgialee’s episode for the full story of how they found their way back to one another.Let us know your thoughts in the comments and leave us a review!Follow Coffee in the Park with Jennifer and Cam on our social mediasInstagram: https://instagram.com/coffeeintheparkwithjenandcamWebsite: https://www.coffeeinthepark.com YouTube: https://youtube.com/@coffeeintheparkwithjenandcam?si=8Fvb8swofNc1s_GLLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/coffee-in-the-park-podcast/

A Coffee with Erin Isfeld, Manager of Corporate Communications at Edmonton International Airport

Send us Fan MailJoin us for a coffee and chat with Erin Isfeld, the Manager of Corporate Communications at Edmonton International Airport! While many will recognize her as a staple of local news from her two decades at CTV, Erin’s story begins in the small town of MacDonald, Manitoba. She attributes her lifelong love for public speaking and her inquisitive nature to her upbringing and her early involvement with 4H. Attending the same high school as her mother and grandmother, Erin was a curious child who fell in love with the stage and the art of communication, knowing by the age of nine that she was destined to be a television journalist. Her path to the anchor desk was defined by a refusal to let rejection stand in her way. After being told she was unlikely to get into the competitive broadcast journalism program at Ryerson University, Erin took matters into her own hands. At just 15 years old, she walked into a local television station in Manitoba and landed a job that allowed her to see her dream career in action. She went on to earn a degree in Political Science and English from the University of Winnipeg before successfully completing her journalism degree at Ryerson, spending her summers working as a reporter to ensure she never lost momentum.Erin’s move to Edmonton was sparked by a VHS tape submission that caught the eye of Steve Hogle at CFRN. That lead brought her to the city over twenty years ago, where she eventually rose through various roles to host the 6 o'clock news. Throughout her career, she covered a wide range of stories and experienced the deep, family-like bond that forms in a newsroom, particularly when reporting from the field in dangerous situations. She speaks candidly about the emotional impact these stories take on reporters and the unique pressures of the job.The decision to transition away from the newsroom followed the high-pressure environment of the pandemic, a period that highlighted the evolving relationship between the media and the public. Navigating those complex years prompted Erin to seek a new path where she could continue her work as a community connector and storyteller from a different perspective, ultimately leading her to the role at the airport. Her transition is a powerful example of resilience, passion, and the importance of following your heart when it is time for a new chapter. This is an inspiring look at the story behind the story that you will not want to miss!Let us know your thoughts in the comments and leave us a review!Follow Coffee in the Park with Jennifer and Cam on our social mediasInstagram: https://instagram.com/coffeeintheparkwithjenandcamWebsite: https://www.coffeeinthepark.com YouTube: https://youtube.com/@coffeeintheparkwithjenandcam?si=8Fvb8swofNc1s_GLLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/coffee-in-the-park-podcast/

He famously recounts his father’s daring flight behind the 1987 tornado, a story that highlights the unique family legacy of documenting Edmonton from above. An accomplished author, Shane has written four books that chronicle the city’s history and architecture, including deep dives into landmarks like the Hotel Macdonald and personal "stories from the sky" that never made it to the airwaves. Today, Shane remains driven by the adrenaline of being the first on the scene and a tireless passion for uncovering Edmonton’s forgotten history.Let us know your thoughts in the comments and leave us a review!Follow Coffee in the Park with Jennifer and Cam on our social mediasInstagram: https://instagram.com/coffeeintheparkwithjenandcamWebsite: https://www.coffeeinthepark.com YouTube: https://youtube.com/@coffeeintheparkwithjenandcam?si=8Fvb8swofNc1s_GLLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/coffee-in-the-park-podcast/

A Coffee with Lori Patrick, Executive Director of Adeara Recovery Centre

Send us Fan MailThis week, we sit down for a deeply personal and inspiring chat with Lori Patrick, Executive Director of Adeara Recovery Centre, to explore the heart of long-term recovery: community and family.Adeara's Mission and HistoryLori shares her journey from working in insurance and completing her business diploma at NAIT to finding her calling in women's ministries, ultimately leading her to Adeara in 2018. Adeara began 27 years ago as The Edmonton Dream Centre, founded through the simple kindness of a group of individuals who saw a vital need for support and safety for women recovering from addiction—a true testament to community action. We discuss the evolution of the organization, tracing its roots from the original "Pink House" to its current facility—an apartment building that can house 10 families at a time for their year-long program.Healing Families, Not Just IndividualsLori dives into what makes Adeara so unique and critical: it’s one of the only long-term recovery centres in Canada where women are actively encouraged to bring their children into the program. This allows families to heal together, fostering stability and breaking cycles of addiction.Beyond the initial program, Adeara extends its community support through newly established transition housing. This critical resource assists residents with the necessary steps for successful reintegration into society after completing their program.Ways to Support the Adeara CommunityLori explains how Adeara creates a holistic network of support that the public can easily join. One key initiative is the community thrift store, "More Than a Fad," which Adeara recently took over. "More Than a Fad" is more than just a thrift store; it's a vital support system where you can donate, volunteer, and shop to directly contribute to Adeara's life-changing work.Discover simple, tangible ways the community can step in to help these families build a brighter future. Whether you volunteer your time, purchase items from the store, or support local partnerships—like buying Adeara Recovery Coffee from The Wall Coffee Roasters in Acheson—every action helps provide a safe, supported haven for recovering women and their children. Dave tells us how he knew from the age of three that he would one day own Ben’s, and how he’s carried on the family legacy while adapting to the modern world. We discuss the dying art of breaking down animals and the importance of traditional butchery in a world of machines and pre-packaged goods.Perhaps most inspiring, Dave shares the personal story of how his own diagnosis with Celiac disease transformed the business. What began as a small adjustment to the shop’s offerings grew into a full-scale mission, leading to the creation of their popular gluten-free cafe and making Ben's a safe haven for those with dietary restrictions. It's a story of family, legacy, and a business that continues to evolve to serve its community.Let us know your thoughts in the comments and leave us a review!Follow Coffee in the Park with Jennifer and Cam on our social mediasInstagram: https://instagram.com/coffeeintheparkwithjenandcamWebsite: https://www.coffeeinthepark.com YouTube: https://youtube.com/@coffeeintheparkwithjenandcam?si=8Fvb8swofNc1s_GLLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/coffee-in-the-park-podcast/

A Coffee with John Leder, CEO and Owner of Supreme Steel

Send us Fan MailJoin us for a coffee and chat with John Leder, the CEO and Owner of Supreme Steel! John is set to receive the prestigious 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award at the ABA Gala on September 20th, a well-deserved recognition of his immense impact.John's incredible journey began in Wassenaar, Netherlands, before his family relocated to Winnipeg when he was five. After meeting his wife, Sally, through their church youth groups, they settled in Edmonton. What was meant to be a temporary job driving trucks quickly turned into a lifelong career. John joined his father as a general labourer at Centennial Steel, planning to attend university. However, a natural talent for the industry emerged as he quickly climbed the ranks in the shop and field, learning to weld and run night shifts. Despite a brief return to university with plans to study law, the call of the steel industry proved irresistible. His entrepreneurial spirit truly ignited while working for Triangle Steel. After the company declined his innovative proposal to equip a mobile repair truck, they encouraged him to start his own venture. This led to the humble beginnings of Supreme Steel. Supreme Steel built its own shop, continuously expanding, and eventually made strategic acquisitions across Canada, including Saskatoon, to become the industry leader it is today. In 2005, Supreme Steel moved its operations to Acheson, building their stunning facility complete with a fabulous glass atrium that has become a hub for community events.
