In recovery from a decade-long opioid addiction, Hampton is regarded as a forefront expert and thought leader in America's rising addiction recovery advocacy & drug policy reform movements. In this interview, Ryan speaks on his path into addiction, the role stigma played in finding his way to recovery and how it is shaping legislative policy and public opinion across the country in response to the opioid epidemic.     Dr. Don Stader, MD and Dr. Rachael Duncan, PharmD continue with their interview with returning guest, Kate Nicholson, JD to discuss the intersection of pain, stigma, and opioids. Kate Nicholson is a civil rights attorney, speaker, and writer who advocates for the appropriate treatment of pain. She is the Executive Director and founder of the National Pain Advocacy Center, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing the health and human rights of people in pain, with a focus on pain management as a health equity issue. In this episode, Kate touches on her personal story navigating a chronic pain diagnosis and how stigma influenced the care she received and influences the care that many chronic pain patients receive every day.

Her clinical focus is perinatal addiction which includes the care of families impacted by substance use. Tune in to hear about how Dr. Klie uses the idea of unconditional positive regard in her care of patients with substance use disorder.
