Three Pillars of My Training Philosophy

Welcome to the Crossing Timbers Equine Podcast — real talk, practical tips, and mindset shifts for everyday riders who want a stronger, kinder partnership with their horse. I’m Kristin Hodge, and I’m so glad you’re here.In this first episode, I share the foundation of everything I teach: my training philosophy, which rests on three pillars: building blocks, systematic cues, and slowing it down. Building blocks: We layer skills one at a time, starting with ground manners, then lunging, then under-saddle work — no rushing, because a shaky foundation leads to bigger problems later. Systematic cues: The same leg pressure, rein aid, or seat cue every time, delivered in a clear sequence so the horse always knows what I’m asking. Slowing it down: Patience is everything. We wait until each step is 80–90% solid before moving on — because rushing creates confusion and resistance. I’ll break down each pillar and why they matter. Whether you’re just getting started or looking to refine your approach, this is the place to begin.Grab your coffee, tea, or hot chocolate; your notebook, and let’s build something real together.
