It's a beautiful story of TV star sisters sent to a Montana dairy farm, which was an absolute joy to read. We discuss how they nailed the comedy part of this "romcom", the importance of trans representation, getting the details of the dairy farm correct, why acting as a career is less glamorous than it seems, and, of course, the value of Star Trek, in all its many iterations. I was so excited to chat with Christopher Hastings about the new Dark Horse series Dungeons & Dragons: Total Party Killers. The new series is written by Christopher, art by Denis Medri, colors by Dan Jackson, and lettered by Lucas Gattoni. This episode was an absolute blast to record. Ryan has written for film, television, and even a novel (Winders), and so it was fascinating listening to him talk about how he approaches a project depending on the medium. Ryan is also an actor and director and I think has a unique approach to storytelling, especially when it comes to comics, and his love for this medium shines through. For television, Ryan has written for Marvel’s Legion, Skins, Queen of the South, and Wu-Tang: an American Saga. We talk about his early musical ambitions, his film Brooklyn Brothers Beat the Best, kids growing up now versus the 1990s, the importance of horror, and, of course, Tim Seeley. Comics writer Julio Anta joins Byron on the show to explore his new  Dark Horse Comics project, The Beast of Boriken. Part of  Tiny Onion's True Weird series, this tropical horror story uses the legend of the Chupacabra to address the complex history of colonization, activism, and trauma in Puerto Rico. Julio breaks down his collaboration with artist and Puerto Rica native Daniel Irizarri, and how they blended indigenous Taino culture weaving it with the legend of El Chupacabra and applying that formula to highlight modern-day political struggles. We also discuss his extensive background in the YA and middle-grade graphic novel markets including the June release of his second Hillside Valley graphic novel, Sol Goes For Goal!, and why he believes comics are a unique medium for what he calls Revolutionary Optimism.
