Dad Life Episode 72-2 — The Invisible Load of Dads

This week’s Dad Life topic is a big one: the invisible load of dads — the stuff no one always sees, but we’re constantly thinking about. There’s been a real shift over the generations. The classic 70s sitcom dad — the Al Bundy style figure — would go out to work, come home, and the home was mostly seen as Mum’s domain. Through the 80s and 90s, that started to change, with more mums working and dads becoming a more active part of the day-to-day parenting picture. Now we’re in the era where Sean and Nick sit — the modern dad era. We’re trying to pull our weight, be present, do the school runs, cook, clean, shop when we’re trusted with the list, organise family help, support Mum, support the kids, and still somehow keep everything else moving. But that comes with a cost. Because while we’re trying to be present dads, we’re also still trying to work hard, fix things, keep the house running, tackle the DIY, manage money, plan ahead, remember schedules, and be emotionally available when the family needs us. Sometimes that invisible load gets heavy, and sometimes it means we’re not quite on our A-game. In this episode, we talk honestly about what that feels like, why dads often carry it quietly, and why it’s so important to actually talk about it instead of just pushing through. So to all the dads listening: You’re not alone. It’s good to talk. And you’re doing an amazing job — even with the stuff no one sees. Everyday Life Episode 72-1 — Patience Tests, Power Washing & Two Dudes Catching Up

This week’s episode starts with Logan putting Sean’s patience firmly to the test — and they do say never work with animals or children… especially when one of them knows exactly which buttons to press. Nick has finally slowed his roll a little after an absolutely packed week of driving, soccer, bowling, theatre rehearsals, shows, and even fundraising to help build more homes for people. Honestly, what an absolute legendary powerhouse. Speaking of power, Sean has been on a full power washing rampage — causing chaos with the neighbours, cleaning Grandma’s back yard, and somehow turning that into planning the materials, cost, and madness involved in laying his own artificial turf. Sometimes with Dad Crossing, you just get to listen along as Sean and Nick catch up. No big script. No major talking points. Just two best dudes hanging out, laughing, rambling, and making sense of another busy week of dad life. So grab a brew, get comfy, and come hang out with us. Episode 71 — Bowling, Soccer & Renovation Recovery

This week’s episode is another long catch-up, because after our Mario movie special, there was a lot for us to unpack from normal dad life. Nick and Sean finally sit down to catch up on everything that’s been going on — from bowling and soccer weekends, to packed family schedules, to the never-ending world of home renovations for Grandma. Because apparently DIY projects don’t end… they just evolve like a Pokémon with a toolbox. Nick also shares a proper proud dad moment as his little soccer star seems to have really started “getting it” this year — reading the game, understanding where to be, and showing just how much those little moments of growth can mean from the sidelines. As always, it’s full of laughs, updates, tangents, and the kind of real dad chat that makes you feel like you’re just hanging out with us. And because it’s Dad Crossing, here’s your legally required dad joke: I tried to organise a hide-and-seek tournament for dads… but good players are really hard to find. Grab a drink, get comfy, and join us for another long, laid-back catch-up. Episode 71 — Super Mario Galaxy Movie Breakdown (⚠️ SPOILERS!)

This is the first of our special episodes — recorded and kept in the bag for those weeks when dad life gets a little too busy to line things up. And honestly… we couldn’t think of a better one to kick it off. Nick and Sean both took the kiddos to see the Super Mario Galaxy movie, and we knew straight away we had to sit down and talk about it. We held off releasing this so everyone had a fair chance to watch it first… but now? 🚨 ALL bets are off — FULL SPOILERS AHEAD 🚨 Before we dive into the chaos, here’s a quick spoiler-free, kid-friendly overview: The movie follows Mario and friends on a big space adventure, exploring new worlds beyond the Mushroom Kingdom. There’s teamwork, bravery, plenty of laughs, and some really heartwarming moments — all wrapped up in colourful visuals and classic Mario-style fun. It’s a story about friendship, courage, and stepping up when it matters most, with lots of action and familiar characters along the way. After that, we go all in — breaking down the story, the characters, what we loved, what surprised us, and what it was like watching it through both dad eyes and kid eyes. So if you’ve seen the film, come join us and hear what we thought. Dad Life 70-2 — Bedtime Battles, Big Questions & Plushie Dance-Offs

This week Nick and Sean are talking all about bedtimes… and no, not ours (we know what you were thinking 😏). Getting kids to bed can feel like a full-on event. From the endless “can I have…” requests, to sudden deep questions about life, to full-blown plushie dance parties when they’re supposed to be asleep — it’s chaos, it’s cute, and it’s very, very real. We chat about our own kiddos, why they seem to avoid sleep like it’s optional DLC, and what might actually be going on in those busy little minds at bedtime. We also share a few strategies that have helped us (sometimes 😅): 🛏️ Consistent routine — same time, same order, every night 📖 Wind-down time — reading or quiet activities to lower the energy 💬 Pre-bed chat time — let them get all the “big questions” out before lights out 🎵 Calm environment — dim lights, soft music, or white noise ⏳ Set clear boundaries — a limit on “one more thing” requests (and stick to it!) It’s a relatable one for every parent who’s ever said “right, that’s it, lights out”… five times in a row. So grab your best pillow, settle in, and let’s all hit the hay. Everyday Life 70-1 — DIY Done, Kidney Chaos & Classic Catch-Ups

This week Sean and Nick finally manage to carve out some time to sit down together — right in the middle of the usual parenting chaos — and get back into their rhythm. Sean’s celebrating the end of a mammoth DIY project, after what feels like endless trips to the tip getting rid of cardboard, old mattresses, and anything else that’s been hanging around for far too long. Freedom at last! Meanwhile, Nick… is not having twins 😅 but he has been in for an ultrasound on his mysteriously misplaced kidney (yes, really) after a few busy days and one too many pizzas may have caused things to flare up again. That’s just the highlights in what turns into a proper laugh-a-long episode, full of tangents, updates, and two dads just chatting life. So come hang out with your two favourite average joes and enjoy the ride. Episode 69 — Room Swaps, Full Dad Mode & Two Weeks of Chaos

This week’s episode is another long catch-up, after we took a week off to deal with real-life dad chaos. Sean’s been deep in a full-blown room swap project, moving kids around, shifting furniture, and questioning every life decision that led to DIY. Meanwhile, Nick’s been in maximum dad mode with bowling, stage rehearsals, soccer, and everything else that comes with a packed family schedule. Because let’s be honest — Dad Life doesn’t slow down, it just changes lanes. So in this slightly longer episode, we sit down and catch up on the highs, lows, and everything in between from the last couple of weeks. Plenty of stories, plenty of laughs, and the usual tangents as we try to piece together what just happened. Thanks for sticking with us — we hope you enjoy this one. Dad Life Episode 68-2 — Talking About Loss: Helping Our Kids Through It

This week’s Dad Life episode is a heavy but important one. Off the back of some difficult news about Nick’s beloved cat, we sit down to talk about one of the hardest parts of parenting — helping our kids understand that life, unfortunately, does come to an end. Whether it’s pets, loved ones, or anything they feel deeply attached to, loss is never easy. We share our own experiences and how we’ve tried to handle these conversations with our kids in a way that’s honest, gentle, and supportive. We talk through a few ways to approach it: 🧠 Be honest but age-appropriate — avoid confusing language, keep it clear and kind 💬 Create space for questions — kids will process it in their own way and time ❤️ Acknowledge feelings — sadness, confusion, even anger are all valid 📖 Share memories and stories — celebrate the life, not just the loss 🫂 Reassure them — help them feel safe and supported through it ⏳ Let them grieve at their own pace — there’s no “right” way or timeline It’s not an easy conversation to have, but it’s an important one — and one we hope might help other parents feel a little more prepared. ⚠️ Trigger warning: this episode discusses death and loss. If you choose to listen, we hope you can take something meaningful away from it. Everyday Life Episode 68-1 — Pokémon, Parenting & Playing It Very Differently

Off the back of last week’s longer episode, we’re back with a more chilled catch-up — and it turns out… we haven’t done a whole lot 😅 Other than playing games and parenting to the fullest, of course. Sean’s still on a roll with “Pokémon Crossing” (he still can’t say it right), while Arc Raiders has ground to a halt for now. Meanwhile, Nick is doing what Nick does best in his journey through Pokopia — taking it slow, making everything look pretty, and planning every little detail. Safe to say, their approaches are chalk and cheese when it comes to these games. There are a few tangents (as always), a bit more sprinkled in beyond what we’ve mentioned here, and plenty of relaxed dad banter. So grab your favourite Pokémon plushie, get comfy, and come listen along. 🎮 Social Media: Facebook - https://bit.ly/DadCrossing  X - https://bit.ly/Dadcrossing  TikTok - https://bit.ly/DaDcrossing   Discord - https://bit.ly/Dadcrossing-Discord  Email:  [email protected]  Website: www.dadcrossing.com

Episode 67 — Cats, Caffeine & The Great Delivery Saga

This week’s episode is another long Everyday Life special, because once again Nick and Sean sat down to chat… and the stories just kept coming. Nick kicks things off with a run of absolute chaos: a poorly and very grumpy cat, an incident involving a broken pelvis at drama club, and his bold attempt at kicking the caffeine habit. Safe to say it’s been an eventful week in the Metzger household. Meanwhile, Sean shares the latest chapter in his ongoing delivery driver saga, talks about the new tool he’s bought for the massive DIY project, and asks the question that’s been puzzling him all week… why does the weather app have a “Feels Like” option anyway?! All that plus the usual tangents, laughs, and two dads getting comfortably distracted while catching up on life. Settle in — this one’s a long but good one. Dad Life Episode 66-2 — Helping Our Kids Choose a Career Path

This week on Dad Life, Nick and Sean dive into a topic every parent eventually faces: how to help your kids think about their future careers. Sean shares how his own path has been fairly linear, spending over 20 years working in the power industry, steadily building experience and progressing in one field. Nick’s journey, on the other hand, has been a little more varied, and he talks about the reasons behind the different turns his career has taken over the years. Together we reflect on what we’ve learned along the way and how we might pass that wisdom on to our kids, including ideas like: Work to be happy, not miserable — a job shouldn’t drain your life away Find something you enjoy or at least something that gives you purpose Don’t be afraid to make changes if a path isn’t working Skills are transferable — what you learn in one role can open doors elsewhere Careers take time — very few people figure it all out straight away It’s an honest chat about expectations, pressure, and the reality that most careers aren’t a straight line. Hopefully it’s a conversation that helps both parents and kids feel a little more relaxed about the journey ahead. Everyday Life 66-1 — Cozy Pokémon, Cracked Ribs & Contractor Waiting Rooms

This week Nick and Sean sit down for another catch-up, kicking things off with a chat about Pokémon Pokopia. Nick is firmly in his element as the king of cozy, crafty games, while Sean… well… let’s just say it’s not exactly his usual wheelhouse. But how is he feeling about the mechanics so far? Nick also gives us a health update. After finally shaking off the previous round of ailments, he’s somehow managed to pick up another illness and even pop a rib in the process. Safe to say it’s been an eventful few weeks on the Metzger side. Meanwhile, Sean has been busy as ever with work and the gym, while the home DIY projects have slowed down slightly as everyone waits on contractors to come in and do their thing. It’s a normal-length episode this week, packed with the usual catch-up, tangents, and everyday dad life moments — so come along and hang out with us. This week we’ve got one longer episode for you because… well… we got carried away chatting. What started as a quick catch-up about our day-to-day turned into a relaxed one-hour episode covering a bit of everything from Everyday Life and Dad Life. We dive into our usual mix of: 🎮 What we’ve been playing lately 👨‍👧‍👦 What the kiddos have been getting up to 😂 The funny stories that seem to happen every single week Along the way we also touch on the idea of kids getting their first job and earning a little money for themselves — something we’re planning to explore properly in a future Dad Life episode. Dad Life 64-2 — Kids & Mobile Phones: Freedom, Filters & Find My

Last week, while appreciating our amazing grandparents (thank you again — you legends), we hinted at a topic that’s been bubbling away: children and mobile phones. This week, we tackle it head-on. It’s not an easy one. Every child is different. Every family is different. And the “right age” isn’t a universal number — it’s a moving target based on maturity, trust, and circumstance. We talk about: 📱 When a mobile phone becomes a regular topic of discussion 🌐 Access to social media and the reality of inappropriate content 🔒 How to lock things down with parental controls 🛰️ The fine line between healthy oversight and full-blown helicopter parenting 📍 Using built-in tools like Find My on iPhone to balance safety and independence We share our own thoughts, the grey areas, and the stuff that genuinely keeps us thinking at night. If you’re entering that phase where “Can I have a phone?” is becoming a weekly question, come listen along. We might not have all the answers — but we might help you ask better questions and feel a little more confident in your decision. Everyday Life 64-1 — DoorDash Drama & DIY Decisions

This week’s Everyday Life episode sees Nick and Sean catching up on all the goings-on from the past week. Nick kicks things off with a classic DoorDash story, involving collecting pizzas for church group volunteers and discovering that even something as simple as pizza pickup can turn into a full dad-side quest. 🍕😅 Meanwhile, Sean shares updates on kitchen removals and the ambitious plan to shuffle bedrooms around to make better use of the house. What could possibly go wrong when tools, walls, and timelines get involved? We’ve all seen how this movie ends. Those are just the highlights from a week of ordinary, chaotic, occasionally heroic dadding. So grab a coffee, settle in, and come listen to all the other stories we’ve got lined up. Dad Life Episode 63-2 — Grandparents, Backup & Beautiful Chaos

This week’s Dad Life episode is all about the absolute gift (and occasional chaos) of having supportive parents for us and grandparents for the kiddos. We talk about how much it helps — from sleepovers and school pick-ups to stepping in so we can actually get some adulting done without someone asking for snacks every six minutes. We also cover the real stuff: The spoiling The questionable TV choices The “we don’t do that at home” moments The extra sweets that somehow “don’t count” But alongside the funny frustrations, we highlight the massive positives: 👵 Teaching family history and traditions 🚗 Helping with childcare in a pinch 🍽️ Passing down cooking skills (or at least trying to) 💬 Offering wisdom, perspective, and a different kind of love 🧡 Giving our kids another safe place to land It’s not always perfect. Boundaries sometimes blur. But when it works, it’s a powerful thing — for us and for our kids. So come along and listen as we unpack the beauty, the boundaries, and the biscuits that somehow always appear at Grandma’s house. Everyday Life 63-1 — Goopin’ & Poopin’ (and the Egg That Got Left Behind)

This week’s Everyday Life episode starts with what might be one of the most unexpected stories we’ve told — an egg… that got left behind. 🥚 You’ll just have to listen. Sean then updates us on all the Goopin’ he’s been doing lately (yes, we’re still in full Arc Raiders mode), even going as far as calling Nick mid-session… while Nick was, let’s say, otherwise occupied. Hence the title: Goopin’ & Poopin’. You’re welcome. We also catch up on how we spent Valentine’s Day, and celebrate Noah turning 12 — happy birthday, legend! 🎉 As always, expect plenty of tangents, laughs, and two dads just chatting about life, gaming, and whatever else pops into our heads. Dad Life Episode 62-2 — Dad Friendships, Isolation & the Sacred Head Nod

This week’s Dad Life episode tackles a topic that’s bigger than it first appears: dad friendships and isolation. We talk about how many men struggle to make and maintain friendships once kids enter the picture — how playground small talk rarely turns into real connection, and why it often feels like mums have whole groups… while dads have a respectful nod and a mutual understanding that life is busy. It’s a very real, very relatable conversation about: 👋 The difference between chatting and actually connecting 🧍‍♂️ Why making friends as a dad can feel awkward or forced 🎮 And why, despite all that, we’re also very guilty of loving our own space — a bit of quiet, some gaming time, and not having to talk to anyone after work, parenting, and adulting all day We joke, we reflect, and we acknowledge that both things can be true at once: wanting connection and enjoying solitude. And honestly? That’s okay. If you’ve ever felt a bit isolated, or wondered why it’s so hard to make dad friends — this one’s for you. Everyday Life Episode 62-1 — Illness, Olympics & Zero Sleep Gaming

This week’s Everyday Life episode feels like the end of a long, long week, and Nick and Sean finally sit down to catch up. Nick’s still under the weather, waiting to see if his current meds do the trick or if further tests are needed. The Metzger household is also in full prep mode — excited for the Olympics, deep-cleaning the house ahead of Super Bowl LX, and flying the flag for the Patriots… even if the Lions aren’t making it this year. Over on Sean’s side, he’s been in full Goop mode on Arc Raiders, with absolutely no sleep schedule and far too much late-night gaming. He’s also looking ahead to some well-earned half-term time off with the kiddos and Mrs A, which couldn’t come soon enough. It’s a laid-back catch-up full of life updates, gaming chat, and the usual dad banter — so come listen along as we check in and unwind together. This week’s Dad Life episode is all about Valentine’s Day — from the full-blown last-minute panic buying to the beautifully planned, thoughtful gestures that actually land. We talk honestly about how not all treasures come wrapped in shiny paper. Sometimes it’s: ❤️ a few genuine words written in a card ❤️ a thoughtful message ❤️ a small, meaningful gesture ❤️ or even a simple post showing appreciation We chat about what really matters, how expectations change over time, and how showing you care doesn’t have to be expensive or flashy — it just has to be real. So join us as we pass on what little Valentine’s wisdom we’ve gathered over the years (and trust us… it’s not much), have a laugh at our own mistakes, and hopefully help you feel a bit more confident heading into the day. Everyday Life Episode 61-1 — Back at the Mic, Barely Voice-Activated

This week’s Everyday Life episode finally sees us sitting down for a long-overdue catch-up. Nick somehow gamer-fied his upper respiratory infection, upgraded it to full-blown pneumonia, and briefly lost his voice altogether. Achievement unlocked… unfortunately. 🎮🤒 He’s on the mend now, still sounding a little rough around the edges, but recovering well. Sean’s been juggling collecting his dad from hospital, work, and all the usual life admin that seems to pile up when you least expect it. So this one’s exactly what it needed to be: no agenda, no big topic, just two dads chatting through everything we’ve been up to since we last spoke, easing back into the rhythm, and enjoying being back behind the mic together. Everyday Life Episode 60 — One Longer Catch-Up, One Lot of Gratitude

This week we’re dropping just one episode, and it’s an Everyday Life special. Nick’s been battling an upper respiratory infection, spending most of the week coughing through calls and meetings — which has left him with a surprisingly deep, radio-ready voice after his vocal cords took a bit of a beating. On my side, I haven’t had the headspace to plan out a Dad Life topic this week as my own Dad has been in hospital. Because of that, we decided the best thing to do was what we do best: sit down, catch up, and chat through everything that’s been going on beyond what you hear here. It’s a slightly longer episode, more relaxed, more reflective — just two dads talking life, checking in, and keeping things real. Thank you, genuinely, for your understanding and continued support. Dad Life Episode 59-2 — When the Birds Start to Leave the Nest

First off, a quick apology for this episode landing a little later than planned — that one’s on Sean, with some family stuff going on with his Dad. Thanks for your patience, as always. ❤️ This week’s Dad Life topic is a big one: getting ready for the birds to flee the nest. We talk about the moments when you realise it’s starting — or already happening. We cover examples like: Heading off to university or college Leaving home for work, travel, or independence Becoming more emotionally independent, even while still living under your roof The subtle shift from needing you to choosing you We also try to flip the perspective and see it from the kiddos’ point of view — the excitement, the fear, the pressure, and the feeling of stepping into the unknown while still wanting a safe place to land. Using our own experiences, we talk honestly about: 👨‍👧‍👦 How to support without smothering 🧠 Letting go while staying connected ❤️ Why this stage is bittersweet, not just sad 🏠 And how “home” doesn’t stop being home just because they leave it It’s a reflective, emotional, and very real conversation about one of the hardest — and most important — parts of being a parent. Everyday Life Episode 59-1 — Fasting, Filaments & Fresh Gaming Hype

This week’s Everyday Life episode is a proper catch-up as Sean and Nick fill each other in on what they’ve been up to. Sean talks through his 61-hour fast — why he did it, how it went, and what it felt like on the other side (yes, food is discussed shortly after). Meanwhile, Nick dives headfirst into the world of 3D printing, sharing his early experiences, learning curves, and the excitement of creating things layer by layer. There’s also some gaming goodness in this one: Nick gets exciting news related to his favourite Obsidian game, and Sean drops the announcement that he’s already preordered a Switch game landing in March. Dad Life Episode 58-2 — E-Ratings, PEGI & Navigating What Our Kids Watch and Play

This week’s Dad Life episode tackles a modern parenting minefield: age ratings for games and shows — whether that’s ESRB ratings in the US or PEGI ratings here in the UK. We give a quick, dad-friendly breakdown: ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) – used in the US to rate games based on age appropriateness and content like violence, language, and online interaction. PEGI (Pan European Game Information) – used across the UK and Europe, focusing on age ratings and specific content warnings. From there, we get into how we actually feel about these systems and how we use them in real life. We talk honestly about the grey areas, the judgement calls, and the balancing act between protecting our kids and letting them explore age-appropriate independence. We cover: 🎮 Letting kids play games slightly outside their age bracket 📺 Deciding what shows are “okay” depending on maturity, not just numbers 🧠 Why context, conversations, and supervision matter just as much as ratings 👨‍👧‍👦 How different kids (and different ages) need different approaches It’s a thoughtful, practical episode for parents trying to navigate screens without panic — or pretending the problem doesn’t exist. Episode 57 — Christmas Hauls, Cheese Time & Looking Ahead to 2026

This week’s episode is a combo of Everyday Life and Dad Life, and it’s a big one. We sit down and unpack how Christmas went, what we all got in our Christmas hauls, and lean fully into that weird, wonderful stretch between Christmas and New Year — where time doesn’t exist, routines are gone, and cheese somehow becomes a food group 🧀😅 We also chat through our New Year’s Eve plans, what the night will look like for us as dads, and drop a few New Year’s resolutions (some sensible, some optimistic, some very on-brand). It’s relaxed, reflective, funny, and a proper end-of-year catch-up. A longer episode to see the year out — and the only one this week, so get comfy and enjoy. From us to you, thank you for listening, supporting, and laughing along with us this year. We wish you and your families all the best for 2026 ❤️🎉

Dad Life Episode 56-2 — Christmas Eve, Quiet Houses & Festive Chaos Incoming

This week’s Dad Life episode is a cosy, festive one as Nick and Sean chat all things Christmas. We paint the picture of what Christmas Eve looks like in our houses — the calm before the storm, when everyone’s finally asleep… even Rex. 🐶✨ We talk through what Christmas Day will bring for our families: 🎁 The morning excitement 🎲 The games we’ll be playing together 🍽️ The food we’ll be eating (and probably over-eating) 😂 And the traditions that make the day special every year It’s a warm, reflective, and festive episode about slowing down, enjoying the moments, and soaking up the magic with our families. Everyday Life 56-1 — Level Up, Life Updates & Festive Catch-Ups

This week on Everyday Life, Nick and Sean sit down for a proper catch-up, filling each other in on how life’s been treating them and what’s been going on behind the scenes. Sean’s officially earned enough XP to level up again — but the big question is… how did he spend it? 👀 You’ll have to listen in to find out. Alongside that, it’s all the usual Everyday Life goodness: life updates, dad thoughts, random tangents, and plenty of laughs as we just hang out and chat. Dad Life Episode 55-2 — Parenting Misfortunes & “That Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time”

This week’s Dad Life episode is born straight out of Nick’s infamous washing machine story from our Every Day Life episode — and from there it spirals beautifully into a full-on therapy session for dads everywhere. We dig into parenting misfortunes: those moments where your heart’s in the right place, your brain clocks off, and chaos clocks in. We share our own battle scars and cover the classic traps every dad will recognise: The “They’re Old Enough” Trap You’re convinced they can carry a mug of tea, use scissors, pour cereal or make toast. Reality delivers tea on the laptop, a missing fringe, an entire box of cereal in one bowl, and a smoke alarm giving a West End–level performance. The “I’ll Just Nip Out for 30 Seconds” Lie You step away to the toilet, take a call, or put the washing on… and return to permanent marker murals, Sudocrem in the sofa, and a child wearing every item of clothing you own. Time bends when kids are unsupervised — Einstein would’ve had notes. The “Let Them Learn Independence” Moment You say, “Work it out yourself” or “You’ve got this,” and they hear permission to climb furniture, use tools, or enter machines not designed for humans. Nick’s washer incident sits proudly here — growth mindset, structural damage. The “That’s Probably Fine” Safety Call It looks controlled. They’ve done it before. You’re tired. Suddenly the coffee table is a launch ramp, the dog is involved, and A&E becomes part of your evening. Bonus points if you said “be careful” instead of actually stopping them. The “They Definitely Understand What I Mean” Assumption You say “don’t make a mess,” “be gentle,” or “just have a quick look.” They hear “experiment,” “push the limits of physics,” and “touch everything with both hands.” Kids are very literal… selectively. The “It’ll Be a Funny Story One Day” Rationalisation In the moment it’s panic, anger, and questioning every life choice you’ve ever made. Later? Podcast gold. Group chat legend. “Remember when you destroyed the washing machine?” This is literally how Dad Crossing episodes are born. The Comparison Trap You’ve seen other kids making snacks, doing chores, and being suspiciously capable on Instagram. What you don’t see are the repairs, the tears, and the insurance excess. Your kid is not their kid — and their highlight reel is a lie. We wrap it all up with The Universal Dad Rule: If a task requires strength, balance, tools, or entering an appliance… it probably needs supervision — or at least a chair and emotional preparedness. These misjudgements don’t make you a bad parent. They mean you trusted your kid, you tried to teach independence, and you underestimated chaos — which is basically the modern dad job description. Grab a brew, laugh along, and feel very seen in Dad Life Episode 55-2. Every Day Life 55-1 — “Have You Tried Turning It Off and On Again?”

This week, Sean and Nick are back doing what they do best — catching up, venting, and laughing through the chaos of everyday dad life. Both of us are battling tech issues (and yes… we did turn it off and on again), proving once again that IT problems don’t care how old you are. Nick shares an absolute chef’s kiss of a story involving Amazon, his daughter, a washing machine, and what he openly admits may have been a questionable parenting decision. Lessons were learned. Maybe. Over on the UK side, Sean clears something up for the Harry Potter fans who aren’t familiar with British schools — Prefects are very much a real thing, not just a Hogwarts invention, and yes… they come with power. All this plus the usual squirrel moments, dad logic, and plenty of laughs as we hang out and chat life. Dad Life 54-2 — “Put the Screens Down! It’s Family Game Night!”

This week, Sean and Nick bring the energy, the nostalgia, and a whole heap of fun as we dive into games you can actually play with the whole family — and for once, we barely mention video games! (We know. We’re shocked too.) We go a little longer than usual because there’s just so much goodness to squeeze in: 🎲 Classic tabletop games everyone can enjoy 😂 Totally unhinged adult-only options for after the kids go to bed 🥒 And of course… the legendary Metzger-family favourite: Find the Pickle It’s all about ditching the screens, gathering in the living room, and making memories the old-fashioned way — with dice rolls, silly rules, lots of laughs, and maybe a bit of friendly chaos. So grab your crew, grab a snack, and come get inspired to play something together tonight! Everyday Life 54-1 — “72 Hours, Zero Fun, and Maximum Dad Mode”

This week Sean and Nick dive into a much-needed catch-up after what can only be described as a week and a half for Sean. Sean kicks things off by (rightfully) moaning about his 72-hour work week — because honestly, why does that number even exist? With that kind of schedule, it's no surprise his list of adventures is basically… nothing. Just work, sleep, repeat, and the occasional existential sigh. Meanwhile, Nick’s been living the full festive dad dream: playing games, hanging with the kiddos, and generally being the yin to Sean’s overworked yang. So grab yourself a cosy hot chocolate, get comfy, and join us as we chat, decompress, and laugh our way through the chaos of dad life during the holiday season. Dad Life 53-2 — The Great Christmas Tree Power Struggle (and an Unexpected Snow Day)

This week we dive head-first into the unspoken rules of Christmas decorating — not just what goes on the tree, but who’s actually allowed to touch it. From the partner who has a vision board for baubles, to the dad who’s simply told to “stand over there and pass me the lights,” we break down: 🎄 Roles & responsibilities 🎄 The dos, the don’ts, and the “absolutely do NOT touch that ribbon” moments 🎄 How to help without ruining the perfect aesthetic Naturally, we go off on a few classic Dad Crossing tangents before the episode takes a surprise turn when Nick gets the live announcement that his kids are officially on a snow day… and the dad chaos begins. It’s festive, funny, relatable, and full of that pre-Christmas parent energy. This week’s episode kicks off with Sean sounding like he’s recording from inside a bucket thanks to a full-blown cold, but he powers through like the hero dad he is. 💪🤧 Nick brings snow-day chaos to the table, along with the tragic tale of a canceled Yes Day (a moment of silence, please). Meanwhile, Sean shares his adventures wandering around a very British soggy Christmas market, plus a weekend spent bouncing between F1 thrills and Fortnite fun. Just two dads catching up, swapping stories, and laughing through the winter madness. 52-2: Dad Life — Black Friday, Big Gifts & Growing Kids

This week on Dad Crossing: Dad Life, we dive headfirst into the glorious chaos that is Black Friday—the deals, the pressure, and the annual dad ritual of hunting for presents while trying not to get tricked by those personalised ads stalking us across every screen we own. We chat about how gift-giving has changed as our kids grow up in a world where everything is hyper-targeted, algorithm-approved, and delivered straight to their eyeballs. Gone are the days of one big present that blows their socks off—now it’s a weird mix of niche interests, digital wishlists, and trying to guess what phase they’ll be in next week. We break it all down, share our own buying battles, and explore what modern gifting looks like for maturing kiddos. All that plus the usual dad musings, jokes, and “why is everything so expensive?” energy. 🎁🔥 Social Media: Facebook - https://bit.ly/DadCrossing  X - https://bit.ly/Dadcrossing  TikTok - https://bit.ly/DaDcrossing   Discord - https://bit.ly/Dadcrossing-Discord  Email:  [email protected]  Website: www.dadcrossing.com

Everyday Life 52-1: Steam Machines, Schedule Mayhem & The Tinsel Tragedy

This week on Dad Crossing: Everyday Life, we fire things up with a chat about Valve’s upcoming Steam Machine and why—depending on that magical price point—it might just cannonball straight into the competition and cause some real waves in the gaming world. From there, we offer our heartfelt apologies for being MIA last week… but hey, when you’re two busy dads with unpredictable schedules, sometimes the stars just refuse to align. Then Nick delivers an absolute gem of a story involving his cat and why tinsel is permanently banned from the Metzger household Christmas tree. Trust us—this one’s worth the wait. Plus plenty of extra chatter, tangents, and laughs in a slightly longer episode to make up for last week’s absence. Settle in. Dad Life 51-2: The Three Types of Tired

This week on Dad Crossing: Dad Life, we’re diving into the three kinds of tired every parent knows too well — sleepy tired, mentally cooked, and the big one… soul battery empty. After a little medical scare and an early morning ER run (don’t worry, Nick’s fine!), he’s been feeling two out of the three — and it got us both thinking about what it really means to rest and recharge. Nick’s also facing a real dad dilemma: what to do with his new Switch 2 — keep it, cascade the consoles down to the kiddos, or sell it on and fund his 3D printer dreams? Dad Life 49-2 – The Many Types of Parenting: Which One Are You?

This week’s Dad Life episode takes a deep dive into the different types of parenting — from lawnmowers to helicopters, gentle to free-range — and everything in between. 🚁🌱 We break down the key styles: 🌿 Lawnmower Parents – clearing every obstacle before the kids even trip. 🚁 Helicopter Parents – hovering close and ready to swoop at the first sign of trouble. 📚 Intensive Parents – fully booked calendars and enrichment overload. 💞 Gentle Parents – leading with empathy and calm guidance. 🏕️ Free-Range Parents – letting kids explore and learn through independence. 🧷 Velcro Parents – always close by, helping every step of the way.
