The New Art of the Ancient World
L’Art Antique, or the art of the classical/antique world [Egypt, Greece, Rome], has many stylistic elements developed over the centuries that remain highly prominent today. Arguably, no artistic movement has had a greater worldwide impact than Art Nouveau. When new artists look back to build on something ancient, they create something truly timeless. Osiris and Isis - Love Never Dies
Love never dies; it’s not just a musical sequel to Phantom of the Opera, it’s the ancient story of love, murder, loss, a great journey, resurrection, and love again. Even if it’s only part-time. Isis and Osiris are so well-known that much of their origins are lost to time (for now), but we can still follow them to today.Thank you for supporting me by listening during this PODCASTATHON CHARITY EPISODE!!Donate to UNICEFMore info on PodcastathonThis will be episode 20 of season 2 dropping on the 20th! Osiris and Isis: The Death of Love
The golden couple, the epitome of goodness and love from Ancient Egypt. Isis and Osiris were and are couple goals, together throughout eternity, except in Stargate. But before getting to that, we have to cover the myriad of names, the history and the myths wherein one is free to have his relife, and one is the most powerful god or goddess in the Pantheon.Read along, Pictures, and Citations: Detours in ArtaeologyPrintify Shop - shirts, stickers, and mugs, oh my!My YouTube channel - where you can find all my episodes tooSocialsJoin my Patreon for extra goodies (it's free): DetoursinArtaeologyFollow me on Instagram: @FlyingSepiidaFollow me on BlueSky: Renegade ArtaeologyFollow me on LinkedIn: LinkedIn**Music Used from **Scott Buckley:'Castles in the Sky' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. http://www.scottbuckley.com.au'Anna's Theme' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. http://www.scottbuckley.com.au'Petrichor' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. http://www.scottbuckley.com.au'Chasing Daylight' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. http://www.scottbuckley.com.au'Hiraeth' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. http://www.scottbuckley.com.au'In Search Of Solitude' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. http://www.scottbuckley.com.au'The Black Waltz' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. http://www.scottbuckley.com.au'The Old Ones' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. http://www.scottbuckley.com.au'The Summoning' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. http://www.scottbuckley.com.au'Wayfarer' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. http://www.scottbuckley.com.au'Sleep' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. http://www.scottbuckley.com.au'There is a Place' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. http://www.scottbuckley.com.au'Three Sheets To The Wind' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. http://www.scottbuckley.com.au

Sokar (Part 2): Sands of the Underworld

Hathor ²: What is Love?
Hathor, a major ancient Egyptian goddess, represented love, music, motherhood, and joy. Depicted as a cow or woman with cow horns, she symbolized fertility and care. Honored by pharaohs and commoners alike, her symbols appeared in art, stories, and temples throughout Egypt’s history. Her character is rewritten into an alien parasite who tries to conquer the galaxy. The Mummy - An Archaeologist Reacts
I love The Mummy (1999), it wasn't the only reason I wanted to study archaeology, but it got me thinking more about the cultural history, traditions, and myths that have lasted through the centuries. Of course, it's not right about all of the actual archaeology and history, but that's what I'm here for. Gateways In-Between Worlds
In ancient art, lattices often symbolize gates, connecting the physical and spiritual realms and linking to the divine. Artifacts reveal that lattices possess deep meanings, representing thresholds for understanding and enlightenment through their patterns. Cornucopia - Symbol of Fertility and Abundance
This Thanksgiving we can dive into the history, cultural significance, evolution, and symbolism behind one of the holiday's most iconic motifs: the cornucopia. Eyes on the Waves
Figureheads have changed a lot from their ancient beginnings to today's ships, improving with technology and changing various cultures. From charms for sailors, showing symbols of nature, gods, or heroes to express the ship's identity and spirit, but as shipbuilding improved, figureheads became more decorative and influenced by cultural styles. Over time figureheads moved from the sea to the air and are often simple or missing, replaced by branding on the hulls for modern design and efficiency. However, there is still a revival of detailed figureheads that mix ancient art with modern ideas. Read Along and look at the many beautiful examples: HERE Patreon: DetoursinArtaeology

Take Me to Snurch pt. 2
Feathered serpent gods tend to symbolize life, creation, and balance, merging earth and sky. Unlike fierce serpent deities, they represent enlightenment, fertility, and nurturing. Their bird-like traits emphasize spiritual growth, while other snakes often signify destruction. Serpent deities embody duality, reflecting wisdom and protection as well as disorder, symbolizing the balance between beneficial and harmful forces, demonstrating that the same cultural symbolism can convey vastly different meanings depending on context and interpretation. The Ballgame
The ballgame is a crucial event in Mesoamerican cultures, teams competed to pass a rubber ball through stone hoops without using their hands. The game was more than just a sport, often with religious and symbolic significance. "The Road to El Dorado," an animated film from 2000, shows two con artists who stumble upon the legendary city of gold playing the mythic game. Can they channel the gods they are pretending to be? The Metaphor of The Flayed One
In the realm of ancient Mesoamerican mythology, Xipe Tótec stands out as a compelling figure with layers of symbolism waiting to be unravelled. Adorned in the flayed skin of a sacrificial victim, this deity embodies a profound metaphor of transformation and renewal. Through intricate carvings, vibrant murals, and ornate ceramics, artists of the past captured the essence of Xipe Tótec's cyclical nature. Just as the god sheds his skin to reveal a fresh layer beneath, so too does the art surrounding him invite viewers to contemplate themes of sacrifice, rebirth, and the eternal cycle of life and death. Like most of the deities in the Mesoamerican world, Xipe Tótec’s appearance challenges us to reflect on our capacity for growth and renewal, encouraging us to peel back the layers of our own existence to reveal the beauty and potential within. Today, in a world where the echoes of ancient beliefs still resonate, the imagery of Xipe Tótec continues to serve as a potent metaphor. Through the art inspired by Xipe Tótec, we are reminded that transformation is not always easy or pretty, but it is a necessary step towards embracing our true selves and evolving into beings of resilience and grace. Here, the remains of Pakal the Great, king of Palenque, lie inside his original coffin with the top lid that is a fully carved story. To secure his family's right to rule Pakal deified himself, inserting his godhood into the Mayan underworld.
