    The Business of Business School

    The School of Business Greensboro College houses some of the most popular majors and some of the most popular professors including Dr. Karen Knoch. The Dean of the School of Business got her start in the furniture industry, but a ferry ride changed everything.

    Welcoming International Students

    In the fall of 2023, the College welcomed five international students. In 2024 that number grew to 15 and this semester, Fall 2025 the College welcomed 32. Many contributed to that growth, but none more than Paula Wilder, Director of International Programs.

    Taking a Seat to Stand Up for Freedom

    On February 1, 1960 four local college students took a stand for freedom by sitting down at at whites-only lunch counter in a Downtown Greensboro Woolworth's. That brave act led to many others in Greensboro and across the country, eventually integrating lunch counters nationwide. Today a museum commemorates their act and many others that advance civil and human rights. CEO of the International Civil Rights Center and Museum, John Swaine joined us in the President's Corner.

    100 Steps from Downtown Greensboro

    We like to say that the College is 100 steps from Downtown Greensboro – 100 steps from food, music, art, theatre, shopping, sports and much more. Zack Matheny, CEO of Downtown Greensboro Inc. came to the President's Corner to to talk about Downtown's past, present and future.

    The mission of the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro is a big one -- to inspire giving, maximize opportunities, and strengthen communities for present and future generations. Walker Sanders is the foundation’s president – a role he’s held for more than 25 years.

    Freddy Johnson '77 -- Player, Coach, Legend

    13 is a pretty lucky number for Freddy Johnson. The Greensboro College alum recently won his 13th state basketball championship as head coach at Greensboro Day School. He is the winningest coach in North Carolina history, and in the top five in the country, and before any of that he was a student and player at GC.

    There is likely no one at Greensboro College who doesn’t at least recognize GC's Dean of Student Success and Engagement. Not only does he organize or attend most every event, he’s easy to spot – yes, he’s tall, but it’s his easy manner and infectious smile that make him unforgettable.

    Anne Hurd is literally the heart of Greensboro College. Her ties to the college span three generations and she has touched many more. As she prepares to retire in January 2025, she shares some of her memories of growing up, studying and working at GC.
