66% of Africans are unbanked. This means that people lack access to the most fundamental financial services. However whilst most Africans are without traditional banking services as we know it 97% have mobile phones. This creates a great opportunity for digital banking services to fill in the gaps. Eversend is a pan-African neobank based in Uganda. It provides multi-currency wallets and currency exchange and plans to offer personal loans, savings, group savings, merchant payments and investments in the future. The Ugandan youth unemployment rate sits at 13.3%. According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics over 75% of young people are engaged in vulnerable work or are underemployed meaning low earnings, low productivity, and working within difficult conditions. Youth underemployment is a HUGE problem across the continent. In 2015 Vanessa Atim left London to start ProInterns an online internship platform connecting Ugandan students and graduates to employers through internship, volunteering and placement opportunities. Female entrepreneurship rates in Sub-Saharan Africa are the highest in the world.  Yet several women find it difficult to access credit because they don’t know how financial services work, or where to go to for a quick confidential loan. Shecluded was created to help close the financial inclusion gap for women in Africa.  It is not only providing women-led businesses in Nigeria with access to credit and other financial services but financial education too.
