Dopest: The Podcast

You might call me an "old head". Stuck in the '90s. WASHED! But I lived through (arguably) the best era of hip hop since its inception in the mid 70's. I just want the mumble rappers to open their mouths so people can understand what they're saying. Ok sorry, that was a cheap shot. It’s time to be the adult in the room and listen to what the new artists are saying while introducing the new generation to the legends who paved the way. There's room for growth from both sides and I'm taking the initiative. Join Lo and his friends as they celebrate the classics and experience what's fresh and new in Hip-Hop, R&B and the sub-genres that blur those lines. The Dopest beats, the Dopest lyrics and the Dopest messages get explored right here on what could potentially be the Dopest podcast you've ever listened to.

  1. 17

Episode 17: For The (Cancel) Culture

In this episode, Lo tapped in with two special ladies to take their pulse on the complicated relationship between entertainers and the highly publicized accusations of abuse and sexual assault against them.  Dopest veteran TT and Lo's baby sis Hollie didn't hesitate to remind us that we are as just as flawed as our artists. However,  don't get it twisted, they're not freeing R. Kelly from the closet.   No political correctness and pandering to the woke police.   Strictly speaking from their own personal experience.  It was honest, it was enlightening and it was DOPE!  We apologize for the poor audio quality.  We're still working out this virtual guest thing so bear with us and we promise there is more high-quality content on its way.

    Episode 16: The Re-launch, HBD!

I gifted myself something this year for my birthday. I've been thinking about it for a very long time so I said F it, there's no time like the present to get back into this podcasting thing.  We originally launched this podcast in May 2019. Had a good little run. Worked out some kinks, took a few hiatus (apparently hiatuses is not a word), stopped completely when COVID hit.  Now we're back.  Trying a different format where all guests are remote since COVID is still out here running rampant.  I'm the host, my friends are the guests.  Still interesting topics around hip hop, the culture, and anything else we feel like discussing. No format, just great conversations.  Enjoy! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Episode 11: Show Me Your List

Before we become friends I need to see your list of the 50 greatest rappers of all time. On this episode, Lo and Rocco discuss one of the culture's hottest trending topics of the week.  Instead of firing off names on their own lists, they touched a little on how a top list should be constructed. Also, whats an A&R and what do they do?  Do labels or artist need them?  Drake, Lil Durk, YBN Cordae, BJ The Chicago Kid and Chance had new projects drop in the last two weeks.  Want an honest opinion?  Push Pl

Episode 10: Lost Tapes 2 Review

Milestone episode number 10 was all about the Queensbridge legend, Nasir Jones aka Nasty Nas! Boy were they excited to dig deep into Lost Tapes 2, the sequel to 17 year old Lost Tapes. How do they stack up against each other and who brought their A game to the freestyle. Push Play.

Episode 9: We Just Got Real

On this episode Dopest got REAL.  Nah seriously that's the name of the special guest host this week.  Real dropped in to help the crew breakdown 6 albums that were released in the past couple of weeks like the street banger, Flygod Is An Awesome God, from Westside Gunn and an unexpectedly soulful "Collaborations" album from Ed Sheeran. Yes, Ed Sheeran.  As if that didn't keep them busy enough, they attempted to rank the top 5 record labels in hip hop history.  Lets just say they put in a good effort.

    Episode 8: Philly vs. NY

Much respect goes out to the pioneers from the Big Apple but it’s been a long time since then and boy has this beautiful seed grown and sprouted branches that stretch across the entire globe. But to find some of hip-hops most potent spitters there is no need to travel very far. On this episode we match NY’s finest emcees up with their close cousins just a short car ride away in Philadelphia. Plus we touch on the new releases from Chris Brown, Daniel Caesar and Mustard. Push Play.

  11. 7

Episode 7: For The Culture (Vultures)

In this episode we break down the term "culture vulture" and why the phrase gets thrown around so often.  We give our take on Gucci Mane's new album Delusion of Grandeur and review releases from Lil Nas X and Benny the Butcher. Push play.

  12. 6

Episode 6: In Salaam We Trust

Enough can't be said about one of the most underrated producers of our time.  The gang all share a common admiration for Salaam Remi as the genius behind so many musical masterpieces.  He teamed up with Joell Ortiz again for an EP called Box Talk and you'll have to tune in to see how the Dopest podcast received it.  They also review Tee Grizzley's debut album Scriptures and even things out with a little sweetness from Kiana Lede with Myself.

  13. 5

  14. 4

Episode 4: Father of an Okay Album

A lot to take on during this heavy album release week. The Dopest members somehow managed to listen to everything that dropped and wasn't shy about dishing their opinions. Releases from Meg Thee Stallion, Curren$y and Statik Selektah, Sheek Louch, Wu-Tang, and Tyler the creator kept their ears full. The squad minus TT go down the tracklist of the biggest summer(ish) release, DJ Khaled's 11th album, Father of Asahd.  Push Play.

  15. 3

Episode 3: 36 Chambers and 10 Game Changers

In this episode, TT is back in the building. Well, sort of. This week the Wu was still fresh on everyone’s mind after indulging in Wu-Tang documentary, Of Mics and Men.  The “clan” gave their own take on everything from the film production to the individual stories they were impacted by the most. Maryland rapper Logic’s fifth studio album Confessions of a Dangerous Mind was reviewed along with Green Balloon, by eclectic ensemble out of New Orleans, Tank and the Bangas. Push play.
