In this episode of EU Insight: Leiden Perspectives we celebrate our first anniversary and look ahead to the new European elections next spring. As Ursula von der Leyen’s first mandate is coming to an end with uncertain prospects of her second mandate together with our guests: Maria, Virginia and Martijn we discuss what she and her commission have done in the area of foreign and security policy. At the beginning of her mandate von der Leyen promised to lead “geopolitical commission” that will be more involved in global geopolitical environment and become more capable of being an independent and powerful actor on a global scale. The three main issues we discuss with our guests are the question of the EU’s strategic autonomy, the war in Ukraine and the ongoing Israel-Palestine struggle.
