Welcome to Filmshake, your go-to podcast for ’90s movies. From cringe-worthy flops to epic blockbusters, we cover the best and worst films of the most bodacious decade in cinema!

Episode 111 - Mannequin Two: On the Move (1991)

Send us Fan MailWe've covered some heavy hitters this first half of 2026: The Matrix. Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Scream. Mannequin Two: On the Move. Yes, this episode, we're covering 1991's $3.8 million-grossing juggernaut sequel that's so big, we had to bring back our old friend, Doug McCambridge, from Good Time Great Movies to help us talk about it. We also somehow talk about the original 1987 Mannequin film, which is a shock, considering the thematic depth and cinematic breadth of Mannequin Two. Nothing's gonna stop us now!!!Support the showIntro music - "If" by Broke For FreeConnect with us!TwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment

Episode 110 - Scream (1996) and Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood (1996)

Send us Fan MailWe all go a little mad sometimes, but we've gotta cover 1996's Scream. Our parents are gonna be so mad at us, but it's the most iconic horror film of the 90s, and as we told you in our last episode, we'd be right back! Unfortunately, we can't post any quotes from our second film (which we cover first, and for not as long), Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood. But we can say, Nic cheated because the only planet where that movie is a punishment is Easilyoffendedia, which astronomers actually declared "not a planet" anymore some time before Pluto.  Justice for Pluto!Music Heard this Episode"Trouble in Woodsboro" -- Marco BeltramiSupport the showIntro music - "If" by Broke For FreeConnect with us!TwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment

    Episode 109 - Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)

Send us Fan MailListening to Filmshake, it is suddenly so clear. We will never stop. We will never leave you, never hurt you, never shout at you, or get drunk and hit you, or say we are too busy to spend time with you. We will always be there. In an insane world, we are the sanest choice...so listen as we talk about 1991's Terminator 2: Judgement Day. It's one of the biggest movies of all time, and we're finally covering it! We also talk 1991's Suburban Commando because Jordan said we had to. Send us Fan MailPrepare yourself for a shock: we're covering 1991's The Rocketeer. The Rocke-who? Oh, for crying out loud, don't you watch 90s movies?! But that's not the only 1991 Jennifer Connelly movie we're covering. Our punishment film is 1991's Career Opportunities. But how can a 1991 film be a punishment if it stars Jennifer Connelly?!Music Heard this Episode"Main Title/Takeoff" -- James Horner"Begin the Beguine" -- Melora Hardin/Billy May (Originally Written by Cole Porter)"Rocketeer to the Rescue/End Title" -- James HornerSupport the showIntro music - "If" by Broke For FreeConnect with us!TwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment

Episode 107 - The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

Send us Fan MailA census taker once tried to test us. We could have eaten his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti, but instead we recorded this Filmshake episode about 1991's Silence of the Lambs, where Nic mostly talks about how much he wants to eat Jordan's liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti. Also, we talk our punishment film, 1994's Silence of the Hams, which is somehow even worse than having your liver eaten with some fava beans and a nice chianti. Episode 106 - No Escape (1994)

Send us Fan MailYou have come here from all over the world because society has no further use for you. The international prison system has given up all hopes of your rehabilitation. FILMSHAKE will now be your holding pen until your death. Because FILMSHAKE is the only way out. We're talking 1994's action flick, No Escape, possibly a cult classic or possibly a forgettable flop. We also talk our punishment film, 2014's Leprechaun: Origins...which no matter your opinion of No Escape, is a lot worse than No Escape. There is no chance of reprieve here, no possibility of escape. You are condemned. Either listen... Episode 104 - The Matrix (1999)

Send us Fan MailNo one can be told what Filmshake is. You have to hear it for yourself, and this episode, we're talking 1999's foundational film, The Matrix...only One of us likes it far more than the other. That means we're about to throwdown like Neo and Agent Smith in the subway for TWO HOURS! But that's not all we talk about. We've also got our punishment film, 2002's Reign of Fire, which we probably hadn't seen since we went together to see it in the theater 24 years ago. And somehow during the episode, we missed the fact that Reign of Fire's director also directed our dear cinematic love, 1993's Airborne, causing Jordan to say, "What if Matthew McConaughey and all the other characters in Reign of Fire were on roller skates?!" to which Nic responded, "Wow, that is better than any point you just tried to make about The Matrix!"Music Heard this Episode:"Main Title/Trinity Infinity" -- Don Davis"Free Your Mind" -- Don Davis"Lobby Shooting Spree" -- Don Davis"Saving Morpheus" -- Don Davis"Anything Is Possible" -- Don DavisSupport the showIntro music - "If" by Broke For FreeConnect with us!TwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment

Episode 103 - Tales From the Darkside: The Movie (1990)

Send us Fan MailIt’s the end of the year, and it’s the Christmas season! Filmshake is getting holly jolly and celebrating by covering…1990’sTales From the Darkside?! Hey, the weather outside is frightful, so we might as well talk this television-spinoff horror anthology, featuring Christian Slater versus a mummy, a hitman versus a murderous cat, and a starving artist who falls in love with…Tommy Chong’s daughter! Who needs a white Christmas when you can have one drenched in blood, cat drool, and pus? We also talk 1990’s Two Evil Eyes because, ironically (in the literal, not Alanis Morissette sense), just ONE 1990 horror anthology isn’t enough for us. One of our host's AOL Instant Messenger handles in the 90's was "John McClane," so there might be a little bias here, Mr. Falcon! We also talk our punishment film, 1990's punch and kick-fest, Bloodfist II. But AOL's John McClane doesn't find it a punishment at all! He inexplicably loves it! Can our other host's sanity take all this kicking, punching, shooting, and exploding partisanship? Episode 101 - Hardware (1990) and Robot Jox (1990)

Send us Fan MailGhost. Pretty Woman. Hardware. Robot Jox. When we set out to cover 1990 movies this year, we meant the big ones. We also meant Hardware and Robot Jox. Movies that made hundreds of millions of dollars. Movies that...didn't. Still, our main feature, Richard Stanley's Hardware, is more than worth watching. Not only does it feature a killer robot who leaves behind rivers of gore, but it features themes and cultural commentary that are strangely prescient. Then there's Robot Jox. People in spandex, controlling giant robots to determine the fate of nations. Robot Jox. When we say "Only on Filmshake," we mean "Only on Filmshake."Music Heard this Episode:"Everything Is Under Control" -- Simon BoswellSupport the showIntro music - "If" by Broke For FreeConnect with us!TwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment

Send us Fan MailIt's not a tumor, it's Filmshake! And we're talking 1990's Kindergarten Cop. Arnie only appeared in 12 movies in the 90's, so we're trying to stay as patient as Chekhov's Ferret in covering them, but now, for the 35th anniversary, it's time to go back to elementary school with the Governator! After all, we don't want to be soft and lack discipline! Speaking of, we're also talking our punishment film, 1990's direct-to-video trash, Maniac Cop 2. This is a movie that at least knows it isn't worthy of a roman numeral. That doesn't mean we can't enjoy it! ...or...er...parts of it. Episode 98 - Ducktales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp (1990) and Jetsons: The Movie (1990)

Send us Fan MailThroughout the 90s, Disney made big bucks with animated musicals. In 1990, they released a high-quality adventure film that promised a different direction. The 1990 versions of Jordan and Nic loved that movie. The rest of the world ignored it...and its massive flop in the cinematic ocean ensured decades of Disney musicals that haunt our dreams. But for this one episode, we hope we gave 1990s Ducktales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp, its due. If we did not, at least we got to get corkscrew deep into duck anatomy. We also talk Jetsons: The Movie, from that same year. We don't have as much nice stuff to say about that movie.Music Heard This Episode:"Coming in For a Landing" -- David Newman"Merlock Takes Control" -- David Newman"Ducktales Ending Theme" -- Written by: Mark Mueller; Performed by: Jeff Pescetto"Duck Surprise" -- Science Magazine (Featuring Evolutionary Biologist, Patty Brennan)Support the showIntro music - "If" by Broke For FreeConnect with us!TwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment

Whatever the case, we're talking 1990's Pretty Woman, the rom-com that stole early 90's Americans' hearts...Did we feel the same...or beg for mercy? Also, we're talking our punishment movie, 1990's The Forbidden Dance...actually, we're talking about a lot of forbidden things. After five minutes of this, you might be wondering what you've gotten yourself into. Won't you pardon us? We couldn't help but see. That you look lovely as can be. Should we even live in a world where we have to say Predator 1? And fair warning: he says "yucky" about this movie as many times as Lynch references The Wizard of Oz IN this movie. We also talk our punishment film, 1990's Nuns on the Run. How bad did we want to be juvenile delinquents when we saw the foot clan's hideout filled with arcade games and halfpipes? How bad do we want to give April O'neil a shoulder rub? How awesome is that farm sequence when the turtles are near defeat! All this and more on this 90-minute episode of Filmshake! And by more, we mean we also talk about our "punishment" film, 1990's Spaced Invaders, a time capsule itself into 80s-flavored goofball aliens that are just as green, animatronic, and violent as our beloved turtles. Your hosts were so emotionally devastated by this film 25 years ago that they haven't had the heart to venture back to it...until now. But this isn't just an episode on The Green Mile...it's a culmination of everything Filmshake has done this year...which means it's time for one more cell-rattling argument! But before your hosts can fight over anything, they have to discuss this episode's punishment film: the incredible, incredibly bad 1999 Mortal Kombat-inspired "techno-future" softcore and swords adaptation of Beowulf! It's two movies that will inspire two completely different uses of tissues...and it's only on Filmshake!Music Heard This Episode"The Green Mile" -- Thomas Newman"Circus Mouse" -- Thomas Newman"Coffey on the Mile" -- Thomas Newman"End Credits" -- Thomas Newman"Western Eyes" -- PortisheadSupport the showIntro music - "If" by Broke For FreeConnect with us!TwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment

To kick things off though, we quickly recap our dreadful punishment film that most definitely does not have the Midas touch, 1999s exorable North Korean animated flick, The Legend of the Titanic, one of the worst films ever made. We're split on this episode like two stoners over the last hit, resulting in one of the funniest arguments we've ever had: is Idle Hands dumb on purpose, or is it just dumb? Episode 82 - The Sixth Sense (1999)

Send us Fan MailWe see dead people, and now we're arguing about them!  1999's The Sixth Sense is one of Nic's all time favorite films. Jordan thinks it's a middling affair. In our longest episode ever, the twist is that your two 90's fanatics are coming for each other's heads. Like two angry ghosts, locked in a cupboard, we claw and scratch each other wildly, until we finally get tired and move on to the spirit realm. But before that, we actually agree for a few minutes on our punishment film, 1999's Stir of Echoes, which is no punishment to us!Music Heard This Episode"Empty Couch" -- James Newton Howard"Suicide Ghost" -- James Newton Howard"Run to the Church" -- James Newton Howard"Malcom's Story/Cole's Secret" -- James Newton Howard"Kyra's Tape" -- James Newton Howard"Malcom Is Dead" -- James Newton Howard"End Credits" -- James Newton HowardSupport the showIntro music - "If" by Broke For FreeConnect with us!TwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment

    Episode 80 - American Beauty (1999)

Send us Fan MailIt's one of those days when it's a minute away from snowing and there's this electricity in the air, you can almost hear Filmshake, right? We're  just dancing with you, talking 1999's American Beauty, like a little kid, begging you to play with it. For two hours. This is the day you might realize that this entire movie might not be as good as you remember, and this incredibly benevolent force, i.e. Filmshake, wants you to know there is no reason to be afraid, ever. Video's a poor excuse, we know, which is why you should listen to us instead. We help you remember the 90s...you need to remember...the 90s. Sometimes there's so much 90s in the world, we feel like we can't take it, and our heart is just going to cave in. Also, for a minute, we choke the bishop about our punishment movie, 1999's In Dreams. Quit chafing your carrot and listen.Music Heard this Episode: "Rebecca's Abduction" -- Elliot Goldenthal"Dead Already" -- Thomas Newman"American Beauty" -- Thomas Newman"Arose" -- Thomas Newman"Because" -- Elliott Smith (originally recorded by The Beatles)"Responsibility" -- MxPx"Rust" -- Echo and the BunnymenSupport the showIntro music - "If" by Broke For FreeConnect with us!TwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment

There's other fish in the sea, but Barracudas ain't equal to us as we gush over Renny Harlin's direction and LL Cool J's action hero turn like blood spouting out of a gory stump. When your Titanic sinks we're the one you're gonna meet and we may rather actually watch Titanic than our punishment movie, 1999's Lake Placid, or at least one of us would. Send us Fan MailEvery saga has a beginning and that beginning is the topic of the newest 90s Movies Podcast. Nic is joined by friend and supporter of the show, Matinee Mode, as we talk 1999s Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace for nearly 2.5 glorious hours, with a Jordan Courtney appearance at the end to announce the next episode (where he will return like the Jedi). If you're tired of hiding your love or even simply your "like" for this film, this episode is your Huckleberry, or I guess your Han Solo, AND IT SHOOTS FIRST.We also talk this episode's punishment film, 1999s Wing Commander, which we get through in 12 parsecs because all we want to talk about is The Phantom Menace!Music Heard this Episode:"Overture" -- Kevin Kiner and David Arnold"Duel of the Fates" -- John Williams"The Arrival at Naboo" -- John Williams"Anakin's Theme" -- John Williams"Anakin Defeats Sebulba" -- John WilliamsMedley of Songs all by John Williams"Augie's Great Municipal Band" -- John Williams"Sour Times" -- PortisheadSupport the showIntro music - "If" by Broke For FreeConnect with us!TwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment

    Episode 76 - 8MM (1999) and The Other Sister (1999)

Send us Fan MailIn 1999, a 70-year-old Andrew Sarris spoke for the majority of critics about the Joel Schumacher-directed 8MM, when he said it  "...is clearly an evil film." Well, Mr. Sarris might have been a purveyor of auteur theory, but he's also a purveyor of being wrong. 25-years-later, in a deep conversation that dissects this misunderstood Nic Cage gem like never before, Jordan and Nic reassess 8mm and find themselves at great odds with the 1999 critical establishment. But then they watch the punishment film, The Other Sister, and find that some of the time, maybe those critics were right.Music Heard this Episode:"Unsee" -- Mychael Danna"Hollywood" -- Mychael Danna"Missing Persons" -- Mychael Danna"366 Hoyt Ave." -- Mychael Danna"Come to Daddy" -- Aphex Twin Support the showIntro music - "If" by Broke For FreeConnect with us!TwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment

Send us Fan MailYou gotta lose your mind in Detroit Rock City, and we're here to help! We feel uptight on a Saturday night, the radio's the only light, and we're talking the 1999 Adam Rifkin joint about four 1978 kids who just want to see Kiss play in Detroit. But that's not all! We're also talking 1999's critically-paned cinematic revival of the 60s and 70s counterculture series, The Mod Squad, which one of our hosts inexplicably, unironically, and unconditionally loves. Westlake's The Hunter, though mostly 1999's Payback, we promise! Except when we also talk about our punishment movie, 2011's The Beaver, also starring Mel Gibson, payback for Jordan losing trivia last episode. Can Jordan finally get his $70K back in this episode's trivia battle finale, or does he get stuck with a Director's Cut ending of his own making?! Send us Fan MailIn A Perfect World, this would have been Episode 58 instead of Baby Geniuses, but you've got us driving this time machine, so just be glad this Ford hadn't crashed just yet. Is Costner a god, great, or even a good actor? Is Clint Eastwood immortally badass or is he a not-so-secretly artsy fartsy snowflake? Or does he just want to make his day and get home for dinner? How much Dern can a Dern Dern Dern if a Dern Dern can Dern Dern? All these questions answered (?) and more! Join us as we deconstruct Eastwood's deconstruction of the mythic-outlaw-on-the-run trope and wind up somewhere between knowing "not a damn thing" and wondering can anything really be known and therefore is the supposition of knowing that we don't know "a damn thing" even something that can be relied upon in a world filled with such chaos and violence!!! Episode 71 - Enemy of the State (1998)

Send us Fan MailJust because you're paranoid doesn't mean you shouldn't listen to Filmshake because we're talking Tony Scott's prescient 1998 action-thriller, Enemy of the State. Will Smith, Gene Hackman, and a Pentagon-full of well-regarded and beloved actors star in this cinematic exploration of government overreach into private citizens' privacy, and also, Jason Lee makes a brilliant exclamation about untoward things being done to a duck. Rather fittingly, yet for no good reason, Jordan and Nic approach this film as off the leash as Jon Voight with a free government pass, like this movie is the lingerie store from this movie. The only privacy left is inside your head, so listen to Filmshake!Music Heard This Episode:"Main Titles (Enemy of the State" by Trevor Rabin and Harry Gregson-Williams"Coal Yard Part 2" by Trevor Rabin and Harry Gregson-Williams"Territorial P*ssings" by NirvanaSupport the showIntro music - "If" by Broke For FreeConnect with us!TwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment

Subscribe to our Patreon for more bonus material like this throughout the year at this link: https://www.patreon.com/filmshake*     *     *Two words: Nic Cage. Has there ever been two other words in the history of language that could contain the multitudes that these words represent? Maybe when the ancients were building the tower of Babel and the world's language was confused, there remained slivers of the pure language that contained the secrets to the universe. It's like Nic Cage knew this, changing his name from Nicolas Coppola to Nicolas Cage (after his favorite Marvel character Luke Cage). He knew he'd need to hold back that purity (put it in a Cage, if you will), because otherwise we would have built a tower to Heaven with the ridiculousness and awesomeness that is his filmography.Maybe it can still get us there. Like to Baby-O in Con Air, Nic is here to show us that, yes, God does exist, and He loves Nic Cage. That's good. Because we do too! Here, the other lesser Nic and I each choose our top 5 Cage moments, ranging from the ridiculous and the over-the-top (two phrases you'll here a lot) to the...well mainly more of that. Send us Fan MailNote to self: listen to Filmshake! Because this episode is one tall glass of love for all things Norm McDonald, especially 1998's Dirty Work. Fat jokes, pee jokes, prison rape jokes, and dead hooker jokes. What is this, the 90s? We even manage to throw some love (one of us more than the other) at 2000's very dumb Norm-starring comedy Screwed. All your 90s favorites are here - Chris Farley, Artie Lang, Adam Sandler, Dave Chappelle, and Bob Saget...wait what? Join us and special guest, Chaz from Cinema Medicine Podcast, as we talk every single plot point of the film, how it reflects on the book, how it reflects on the other Jurassic Park films, as well as the music, the video game tie-ins, our first experience with the film, a trademark Filmshake nihilism monologue, if you want it, we got it for two hours! Life finds a way, and if it has anything to do with Jurassic Park, we'll find a way to talk about it!We also talk our punishment film, 1992's The Lost World, which is like Jurassic Park if Jurassic Park was not good, as well as engage in an episode-ending dinosaur-centric trivia battle because we do intend to have dinosaurs on our dinosaur tour.Music Heard This Episode:"Journey to the Island" -- John Williams"Incident at Isla Nublar" -- John Williams"Jurassic Park Gate" -- John Williams"Eye to Eye" -- John Williams"Ocean (Submarine Symphony)" - Jon DunnSupport the showIntro music - "If" by Broke For FreeConnect with us!TwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment

Send us Fan MailOn the 25th anniversary of its release, the two guys who brought you phrases like "brain boners," "milady, you've got the chompers of a basset hound," and "Amy want night tickle" are here to talk 1998's critically acclaimed World War II film, Saving Private Ryan.  And who better? Your gnarly boys not only breakdown the technical aspects of Steven Spielberg's direction, but somehow break into a Kantian dialogue pitting Jeremy Benthem's philosophy of Utilitarianism against classical Deontology. I'm serious. Filmshake is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get, and we don't even care if that's the wrong Tom Hanks movie. Episode 65 -- Last Action Hero (1993)

Send us Fan Mail"He's mean, and he'll blast through your screen!" but that's okay, you don't need a screen for Filmshake, cuz we're a podcast, and we're talking 1993's Last Action Hero on its 30th anniversary. We'll try to decide if this *DEEP BREATH*  fantasy action comedy drama deserved to flop harder than Lebron James at the box office (that joke means two things now!), or if it's actually an unsung gem, like Space Jam: A New Legacy  (lol, just kidding Lebron). To find out, we've brought on the world's preeminent Last Action Hero expert, Jackson Boren, to let us know if Arnold Schwarzenegger's venture into the meta should have been a hit (like Michael Jordan's Space Jam) and Jackson's brought a friend. That friend is our punishment film, Arnie's lone directorial effort, 1992's made for TV romantic comedy remake, Christmas in Connecticut. Does it stand on its own two feet, or does it fall violently to the ground at the mere sight of an elbow, like Lebron does? Only one way to find out! It's the 4th of July, and we're talking 1995's Desperado, which seemed a hell of a lot cooler way back when the Eagles did their FIRST farewell tour, but now that they're on their 60th farewell tour, and Jordan and Nic are a lot older and wiser, does Antonio Banderas not aiming at anyone and still somehow perfectly bullseyeing bad guys who aim right at his chest and can't even hit him with shrapnel sandwiching a sex scene with Salma Hayek that plays like a parody of Last Tango in Paris still look cool? Let's find out together! Also, to hit on all of Robert Rodriguez' Mexico Trilogy (maybe we should have dropped this episode on May 5), we briefly talk 1992's El Mariachi and and even more briefly talk about 2003's Once Upon A Time in Mexico before engaging in a trivia battle that turns out even worse than 2003's Once Upon A Time in Mexico. Now it seems to me some fine things have been laid upon your table, SO QUIT RIDING FENCES AND LISTEN TO FILMSHAKE!Music Featured This Episode:"Back to the House That Love Built" by Tito & Tarantula"Canción Del Mariachi (Moreno de mi Corazón)" by Antonio Banderas and Los Lobos"Desperado" by The EaglesSupport the showIntro music - "If" by Broke For FreeConnect with us!TwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment
