Demelza is working with Dr Samantha Horseman at the JCU Ideas lab James Cook University with thePilgari Systems - an AI solution and hardware that can be installed into any vehicle. Jude Gafney, Audio Description Coordinator for Access 2 Arts, had news on audio-described events at the South Australian Museum; ILLUMINATE Adelaide having audio description; and the State Theatre Company putting on "The Importance of Being Earnest" Christo Sarantakis has mild hearing loss and is using hearing aids which have made an enormously positive difference to his quality of life. The program is funded by DVA, you can also be involved as a volunteer, helping the puppies prepare for their roles. On FOCAL POINT: Sonali Marathe has just completed seven years as President of the Round Table on Information Access for People with Print Disabilities. Sonali shares highlights; achievements,; changes in technology and; the enormous increase in availability of access to more titles. She speaks glowingly about the many involved with the work the Round Table is doing. Kate Stephens is the only person, we believe, in Australia using the B-Book braille computer from Euro Braille. The Computer runs Windows. Dr Annmaree Witharow is the first person who is deafblind to do a medical degree at Sydney University. Annmaree has added another 5 degrees since then. Phil Vandepeer, co-founder and co-presenter for Focal Point, spoke about the situation with the Bedford Group; the role of organisations like them, their importance and role in the community and stressing their importance in towns like Mt. Gambier. Phil also reflected on the beginning of the 48th Parliament of Australia. On FOCAL POINT: Dr David Sykes, Director of the Centre for Dementia Learning atDementia Australia, spoke about a new app-based tool available to help support people working in health; disability and aged care to provide quality care for people living with dementia "Tell TiNA" and other supports for individuals caring for a loved one with dementia, Rachel, from Beyond Blindness Marketing, invited applications for the Trevor Frost Scholarship for young people studying arts/music. Also a few tasty temptations; tandem cycling opportunities and more. Stephen Hallinan, from the Deafblind Project Hunter, spoke about their peer support program, activities and other benefits members gain from their excellent group, Stephen Belbin has received a Certificate of Appreciation from Blind Citizens Australia for many years of advocacy for first Australians and other people with disabilities, as well as his role in education. On FOCAL POINT: Roslyn Sackley (Aunty Ros) has received an honorary doctorate for her lifelong contribution and advocacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and disability rights. Mia Gardiner, from Crime Stoppers Victoria, spoke about their current campaign to raise awareness and help stop wildlife crime. Jordie Howell is this year's winner of the Diana Braun Aspirations Award from Blind Citizens Australia National Women's Branch. Kaela Graham-Bowen spoke about Sarcoma awareness month. On FOCAL POINT: Edward Delgado lost his sight aged 60 and started learning technology for the first time in his life. 86 years young Eddie is a tremendous inspiration and role model to many others. Justine Crawford has brought Achilles Runners Club to Adelaide. Achilles member, Cassie Hames, is enjoying the benefits, namely the freedom, and is setting new goals. Dr Moira Junge, CEO for Sleep Health Foundation, had news on Mounjaro (tirzepatide) mimicking two hormones, GLP-1 and GIP, is now indicated by TGA approval as the First medicine for for common sleep disorders. Phil Vandepeer, co-presenter and co-founder for Focal Point shared, many memories going back over 63 years,of the Late and talented Wendy McDougall. Wendy produced Focal Point for over 25 years. Phil also reflected on the results of the federal election. On FOCAL POINT: John Machin is the winner of the David Blythe OAM award at Blind Citizens Australia 50th Anniversary Convention. John was on the first board of BCA. Rachel, from Marketing at Beyond Blindness, invited all to a number of events and activities, especially in the southern area of Adelaide. Dr Annmaree Watharow, and Moira Dunsmore, previewed some activities coming up for Deafblind Awareness week, and highlighted some of the challenges of people with a dual sensory impairment.
