    More Dictator Shit: Part 2

Spiderwebs are fascinating feats of engineering. Practically invisible yet incredibly strong, we can walk right into them and get stuck before we even realize they’re there. Luckily for us, we’re not tiny bugs with no way to make sense of the situation and escape. We can learn to recognize them, avoid them, and even tear them down so they can’t make meals of us any more.In Part 2 of this episode, we continue our discussion of what’s happening behind the scenes as Peter Thiel weaves his spiderweb of technocratic government control through Palantir, the PayPal Mafia, and Christian nationalism modeled after a country whose influence over U.S. politics has flown under the radar much more successfully than Russia. (Nope, it’s not Germany…)As Fortune writer Jessica Mathews recently wrote, ‘Thiel may not be the face of this administration—but it’s the network he has assembled over his career that’s staffing it.’ Most of us know another big spider is Elon Musk, but too few understand that they’re not weaving separate webs, but rather one giant one that reaches throughout the U.S. government. And they share a bond that goes deeper than technological innovation: The apartheid South Africa connection. Join us to understand how that shared history undergirds this slow-motion coup so we have the foundational knowledge we need to defeat it. This is a public episode. CEO’s to Fight: Part 2

In Part 2, we finally get to the Boss Level in our discussion of the increasingly technocratic impulses of Palantir Technologies: the ultimate evil CEO with a god complex, cofounder/Chairman Peter Thiel.Palantir is the AI/tech company doing the most to help the Trump regime expand the surveillance state by mining Americans’ private data. But should we assume worst intentions? Maybe Thiel is just quirky and misunderstood…Join us for a discussion of how the PayPal Mafia don got his start, why he’s seen as an enemy of the free press, and how his “techno-libertarian” politics are informed by his alleged Christianity: namely, his ironic concern that in an effort to avoid Armageddon, the masses will run into the arms of the Antichrist in the form of ‘a totalitarian one-world government,’ ‘Chinese communist AI […] the big eye of Sauron that will be watching you at all times and all places.’ (Don’t worry, y’all. He’s here to save us from that fate by…helping the U.S. government surveil us even better. Oh, and he doesn’t believe in democracy. But just TRUST HIM.) This is a public episode. CEO’s to Fight: Part 1

We open our latest two-part episode with a song by Wisconsin band Secret Menu that tears the Trump regime and late-stage capitalism in general several new holes. The lyrics couldn’t be more fitting for this week’s news:* US markets tank, the latest jobs numbers are staggeringly but predictably bad due to DOGE’s mass firings and failed economic policy, and Ole Yam Tits pulls his favorite move to avoid accountability: delay, deny, defend.* It’s one step forward and two steps back as Congress seems to take a tepid stand against Trump and his DOJ’s efforts to keep the Epstein files out of the public view, which just fans the flames of the one big, burning question: Which rich and powerful people (besides himself) are they protecting?* The masses demand relief for the people of Gaza as the rich and powerful continue to support Israel and its genocide.* Here’s a vetted list of Palestinian family donation campaigns if you’re looking for a way to support Gazans * Another evil, exploitative corporation’s CEO is assassinated: this time, the target is Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust (BREIT), which the UN publicly censured in 2019 for their worldwide trampling of human rights. And of course, in Part 2 of this episode, we’ll finally get to our in-depth discussion of the ultimate evil CEO with a god complex, cofounder/Chairman of Palantir Technologies Peter Thiel. It’s the End of the World as We Know It: Part 2

Who is Alex Karp, the “good cop” cofounder of Palantir Technologies to Theil’s “bad cop”? He portrays himself as a progressive, an enemy of fascism, a victim caught in the crosshairs of a rogue administration. But do his words and actions align? (Hint: Concerned Palantir alumni don’t seem to think so, according to their recent open letter to “the tech workers of Silicon Valley.”)As we watch the Empire’s veneer crumble in real-time, it’s becoming increasingly apparent who the real anti-fascists are *ahem Trey Parker, Matt Stone, Stephen Colbert, John Stewart, Jimmy Kimmel, Kendrick Lamar, Miss Rachel, Rep. Summer Lee, Rep. Jasmine Crockett, Rep. AOC, Rosie O’Donnell, Dropkick Murphys, Elmo* & who is just paying lip service while making dastardly deals in the back room. Join us as we pull back the curtain on the recent expansion of Palantir’s work with the federal government, the company’s increasingly technocratic impulses, and poor, misunderstood CEO Alex Karp, who oversees the whole shebang. It’s the End of the World as We Know It: Part 1

The Empire’s veneer is finally crumbling as the corruption of the ultra-wealthy and those who feed off them is revealed in real-time. It’s a reminder that, as Rev. Nadia Bolz-Weber says, Originally, apocalyptic literature existed not to scare the bejesus out of children so that they would be good boys and girls, but to proclaim a big hope-filled idea that dominant powers are not ultimate powers. Empires fall, tyrants fade, systems die, God's still around. In Greek, the word apocalypse means “to uncover, to peel away, to show what’s underneath.” That's what this country has been experiencing in recent months.Rev. Bolz-Weber was actually talking about the Me Too Movement back in 2018, but her words are no less relevant today. Yes, this apocalypse is messy and painful, but it’s also an opportunity to wipe the slate clean and grow something better from the Empire’s ashes.Join us for a conversation about how the existence and suppression of the Epstein Files, the cancellation of Stephen Colbert’s Late Show, and the gutting of the U.S. Department of Education all point to the same thing: propaganda and divide-and-conquer politics meant to distract the masses from the systemic oppression inflicted on us by the ruling class. In part two of this episode, we continue our exploration of the increasingly technocratic impulses of Palantir, the company helping the Trump regime expand the surveillance state by mining Americans’ private data. There’s a reason they’ve tried to make woke a dirty word: They know the first step toward revolution is understanding how they’re controlling us. What comes after that is up to us. Palantir Technologies & the Surveillance State: Episode 1, Part 2

On June 30, Robert Reich published an op-ed in The Guardian entitled ‘Peter Thiel’s Palantir poses a grave threat to Americans,’ in which he wrote,In JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, a “palantír” is a seeing stone that can be used to distort truth and present selective visions of reality. During the War of the Ring, a palantír falls under the control of Sauron, who uses it to manipulate and deceive.Palantir Technologies bears a striking similarity. It sells an AI-based platform that allows its users – among them, military and law enforcement agencies – to analyze personal data, including social media profiles, personal information and physical characteristics. These are used to identify and surveil individuals. In March, Trump signed an executive order requiring all agencies and departments of the federal government to share data on Americans. To get the job done, Trump chose Palantir Technologies. In this second of a many-part series, we look at… * the New York Times’ recent analysis of the potential danger posed by the increasingly concerning partnership between Palantir/Peter Thiel and the Trump regime* a letter to Palantir from a coalition of 10 Democratic senators (including Ranking Member on the Finance Committee Ron Wyden, Elizabeth Warren, AOC, & Jeff Merkley) demanding more transparency around how they plan to ensure compliance with federal privacy and tax law in light of the Trump regime’s abuse of power* Palantir’s defensive and opaque response to the letter This is a public episode. Palantir Technologies & the Surveillance State: Episode 1, Part 1

Greetings, fellow apocalyptees. In this first of a many-part series, we begin to explore the potential danger posed by the increasingly concerning partnership between Palantir/Peter Thiel and the Trump regime. But first, we open with a brief discussion of some top stories:* The assassination of Minnesota’s Democratic Speaker of the House Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark, and their dog Gilbert (Katie attended the visitation at the State Capitol, where the family laid in state)* SCOTUS’s ruling on nationwide injunctions via a case about birthright citizenship (Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson had some choice words in her dissent)* A $150 billion line item in Republicans’ so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” with extremely concerning implications for biotech surveillance that potentially involves not only Peter Thiel/Palantir, but also RFK/NIH, Elon Musk/Neuralink, the state of Florida, and possibly even the concentration camp that just opened there in the EvergladesThat last story takes us into Part 2 of the episode: An exploration of Palantir’s contracts with the federal government and the Trump regime’s expanded use of the company’s technology to track Americans’ data and share it across federal agencies by compiling a “mega-database” that could include taxpayer records, health/medical information, social media information, biodata, and more This is a public episode. Decapitation Strike (Part 2)

Almost immediately after the election in 2024, Yale historian Timothy Snyder published a piece called 'Decapitation Strike: Preserving America from Trump's Appointments,’ in which he warned that Americans must see past our outrage at each individual candidate Trump proposed as head of federal a agency to look at the ‘larger pattern,’ the plan being enacted by those who ‘wish to destroy the United States’:‘There is a history of the modern democratic state.  There is also a history of engineered regime change and deliberate state destruction.  In both histories, five key zones are health, law, administration, defense, and intelligence. These people, with power over these areas of life, can make America impossible to sustain.’ In this episode, we break down what’s happening in each of these ‘key zones,’ and how it fits into the broader goal of ‘destroying the American government from the top, leaving the body politic to rot, and the rest of us to suffer.’ Rather than allowing the inundation of horrific news to overwhelm and demoralize us, which plays right into their plan, we must use the available information to empower ourselves. We must organize and analyze what is happening so that we can make resistance sustainable. As Snyder says, ‘We have to get through the surprise and the shock to see the design and the risk. […] Of course we are outraged. But our own reactions can distract is from the larger pattern.’Episode Part 2:Administration (Destruction of Infrastructure):* Elon Musk & DOGE’s hacking & gutting of federal agencies* The threat of crypto to the economy* Proposed cuts to food stamps & Medicaid (+ Iowa Senator Joni Ernst’s ghoulish response to constituents’ outrage)Defense (Abuse of Military Powers):* Sec. of Defense Pete Hegseth’s changes to military code and requirements for Naval enlistment * Trump’s military birthday paradeIntelligence (Leaks, Disinformation):* Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, ‘spreader of Syrian and Russian disinformation’ * SignalGateFinal thoughts from Timothy SnyderAnti-colonial mental health practice for surviving the apocalypse This is a public episode. Keith was joined by our resident cybersecurity expert Jillian this week so Katie could have Mother's Day off. They discussed the week's news, including the eugenic overtones of the RFK Jr autism study, the ICE raid on Worcester, MA where a mother was ripped from her child as onlookers tried to intervene; the arrest of the Mayor of Newark outside of an ICE facility in his community; the threats by Tom Homan and the DHS to arrest the US Representatives at that event and Baby Goebbels (Stephen Miller) threats to end Habeas Corpus or the right to challenge your arrest in court. RFK’s Autism “Study” & Nazi Eugenics: Part 2

Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr.’s dangerous depiction of autism as a “tragedy” and a “preventable disease” should be a red flag to all Americans, one in five of whom will experience “mental illness” in their lifetimes according to the National Institute of Mental Health. But knowing about the danger does no good if we don’t also act. In Part 2 of this episode, we discuss what Americans can do to push back against this dehumanizing rhetoric, which has historically been a dangerous first step on the path to genocide. We also welcome Special Education teacher Joanna, who has a Master’s in autism and has been working with high-support-needs autistic children and their families for over 15 years. She tells us about her experiences with these students and how they will be affected if the Trump regime succeeds in its efforts to shutter the Department of Education and defund Medicaid. RFK’s Autism “Study” & Nazi Eugenics: Part 1

The history of humanity’s treatment of people with intellectual & emotional differences/disabilities is a dark one. In her book Divergent Mind, Jenara Nerenberg writes, ‘In the 1400s, the common notion of madness was that the devil and evil spirits had taken possession of the human mind. This belief contributed to many women being viewed as "witches" and then killed, especially if they were considered to be countercultural or irreligious.’  The Holocaust Encyclopedia notes that ‘At the beginning of World War II, individuals with mental or physical disabilities were targeted for murder in what the Nazis called the "T-4," or "euthanasia," program. [...] Despite public protests in 1941, the Nazi leadership continued this program in secret throughout the war. About 200,000 people with disabilities were murdered between 1940 and 1945.’ People born neurologically different or who behave ‘abnormally’ as a result of trauma have historically been painted as burdens & degenerates, but in truth, they are more often victims of a world that simply can’t be bothered to understand them. The Trump regime is doing everything in its power to continue this harmful tradition with the appointment of science denier Robert Kennedy Jr. as Department of Health and Human Services Secretary. His dangerous depiction of autism as a “tragedy” and a “preventable disease” should be a red flag to all Americans, one in five of whom will experience “mental illness” in their lifetimes according to the National Institute of Mental Health. Talking Bout a Revolution

Trump's Executive Order and PowerKatie and Keith discussed the implications of one of Trump's executive orders, which they believe could potentially lead to the President seizing control of the entire Federal Government, including independent agencies like the Federal Election Commission. They noted that the order's vagueness could allow for the President to interpret and enforce laws as he sees fit, potentially leading to a collapse of the legislative and executive functions into a single individual. They also discussed the Unitary Executive Theory, which centers all real power into the executive branch, and how this could be used to justify the President's actions. The pair agreed that the media's coverage of the executive order was insufficient, and that it was crucial to understand the full implications of the order to make informed decisions as Americans.US Government, Media, and AI ConcernsKeith and Katie discussed the current state of the US government and the potential for a second American Revolution. They expressed concern about the lack of media coverage and the fear that many members of Congress are experiencing due to death threats and intimidation. They also discussed the role of Elon Musk and his influence on the Federal Government, as well as the potential for private security firms like Blackwater to be contracted by the government. The conversation also touched on the potential for AI to be used to control who receives government checks. They concluded by expressing concern for those who rely on their Federal paychecks, such as social security recipients, and the potential impact on their lives.Military Leadership Changes and Trump's ActionsThe discussion covers recent military leadership changes and political developments. Keith and Katie discuss Trump's removal of military leaders, including General Brown and concerns about replacing diverse Joint Chiefs with "mediocre white guys." They debate whether military personnel would follow potentially illegal orders against American citizens, with Katie expressing confidence in current military members she knows personally. The conversation then shifts to discussing Trump's recent actions, including a controversial Instagram post on the official White House account featuring Trump wearing a crown with "Long live the King" text, and his quote about saving the country not violating laws, which Keith clarifies was actually from a Napoleon movie portrayal.Organizing Protests and Economic ResistanceKatie and Keith discussed the current state of the country and the potential for change. Keith expressed concern about the lack of organization and coordination in protests, citing the example of two competing marches in Pittsburgh that only attracted 400 people combined. Katie argued that the country's size and spread make it difficult to expect protests to look like those in smaller, more centralized countries like Germany. She emphasized the need for a multifaceted approach to resistance, including economic boycotts, union strikes, and protests in various cities. Keith agreed that the country needs to figure out how to organize and coordinate protests more effectively. They also touched on the topic of the upcoming election and the potential for a revolution, with Katie expressing optimism about the power of people's economic decisions and Keith expressing pessimism about the country's ability to rise up against the current administration.Navigating Political Climate and ProtestsKatie and Keith discussed the current political climate and the need for more people to actively protest against the administration. Katie emphasized the importance of not giving up and finding evidence to support their beliefs. They also discussed the authenticity of a video showing a protest in New York City, which Katie shared to demonstrate the reality of protests happening across the country. Keith expressed his hope for more people to participate in protests and town halls, despite the challenges faced in Pittsburgh. They agreed to disagree on some points but maintained a positive and hopeful outlook. The conversation ended with a discussion on the decentralized nature of the revolution and its potential impact.Addressing Society's Struggles and FascismKeith and Katie discussed their concerns about the current state of society and the potential for fascism. They acknowledged the validity of each other's perspectives, despite their differing optimism and pessimism. Katie emphasized the importance of not tone policing others and respecting their experiences. They also discussed the struggles faced by neurodivergent individuals and the importance of recognizing patterns. The conversation touched on the struggles of various marginalized groups, including black, brown, and indigenous people, and the potential for self-destruction among white people. They also discussed the role of comedians in society, with Keith suggesting that they often have insight into where society is headed. The conversation concluded with Katie recommending the comedy of Ronnie Cheng, an Asian immigrant comedian.Bird Flu Outbreak and PreparednessIn the meeting, Keith and Katie discussed the bird flu outbreak and its potential implications. They highlighted the lack of information from the CDC and the media, particularly in Minnesota where a state of emergency was declared. They emphasized the need for people to be aware of the risks, including the possibility of the virus spreading to humans. They also discussed the importance of preparing for potential outbreaks, including stocking up on food, water, and medical supplies. They urged people to protect vulnerable members of their communities, such as babies and older people, by getting vaccinated. They also mentioned the ongoing measles outbreak and the need for people to get vaccinated to protect the most vulnerable members of society.Embracing Action Amidst Political ChallengesKatie delivers a passionate closing message about responding to current political challenges, rejecting toxic positivity while emphasizing the importance of taking action. She encourages grassroots involvement through various means like calling representatives, attending town halls, growing food, and building community resilience. The Bomb Shelter

This is a short 15 minute bonus episode on President's DayI record this podcast in a bomb shelter built into the house in 1956. It got me thinking what being in a bomb shelter represents. I also remembered "The Shelter" episode from The Twilight Zone that scared me so much as a kid. And then I realized that what our leaders, with assistance from 77 million of our fellow citizens were doing was making America into one big bomb shelter - closing ourselves from the world on fire we helped create. What will become of us?With a nod to Rod Serling, I hope you enjoy (if that's the correct word) this ep. This is a public episode. How Do You Sleep at Night?

Katie has the week off recovering from the flu. Let's all wish her the best.So I am doing this act alone today. After a brief roundup of the news, we'll talk about the many ways you're going to miss the Federal work force with a special emphasis on public health.A bit of discussion about the impending bird flu pandemic and shortages of food caused by the absence of migrant farm workers and USAID being hobbled. With the Federal government's response to be hobbled, what can you do?PREPARE!I'll share the ways you can prep for what is coming down the pike - food, meds, whatever - and most importantly, to start NOW.Then I'll take a look at Trump's executive order forming a task force on America's health and what bad things this means if you're on anti-depressants or anxiety medications and why your ADD/ADHD child is being regarded by this administration as a "National Security threat."So how do you sleep at night with all of this going on? I'll the discuss the various means and methods of getting a refreshing night's sleep which will veer into a frankly, and admittedly, weird discussion on ASMR (getting the "tingles") and how it can help you get to sleep. Yes, with examples. OK, I know, it's weird but it works. This is a public episode.
