IEC chairperson Pansy Tlakula has handed over the lists of designated members to the national and provincial legislatures to Chief Justice Moeng Moeng at a ceremony Constitution Hill in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. The ten lists comprise 830 people - 47 per cent women and 53 per cent men. The eldest member is 85-years-old and the youngest 32. The Chief Justice will swear in members of the National Assembly at the first sitting of South Africa's fifth Parliament on Wednesday next week.

Votes cast in Zimbabwe
Most of the South Africans eligible to vote in the special vote held in Zimbabwe were able to do so, according to the officials. 32 people had voted out of the 40 registered, when polling ended at 9pm last night. After the vote, embassy officials packed the ballot envelopes into a courier bag destined for the IEC in Pretoria. Officials described the early election as a success despite five people being turned away after their names were not found on the special voter's register for Harare. They had apparently failed to alert the IEC they intended to vote in Harare by the February deadline.

Political parties in KwaZulu-Natal have engaged with members of the blind and deaf community to hear about their daily challenges. Leaders from the ANC, the ACDP, the DA, the MF and the NFP faced questions on job equity, voting arrangements and healthcare access among others. Sixty-five percent of deaf South Africans are currently unemployed. Deaf SA's Odette Swift says the issue of accessibility does not start and end at the front door.
