    008. Raging Bull

    Scorsese and De Niro are together for their third time in a row (4th overall), and wait for it… De Niro is playing a troubled and abusive character who’s his own worst enemy. Don’t get us wrong this is a masterpiece, but there’s a bit of a theme going on here… Hey, this is the fun of watching the filmography in order! We get to see the themes develop over time in Marty’s work. In Raging Bull, We get Marty’s take on a sports movie through the lens of a biopic following the rise and fall of real life boxer Jake Lamotta in dazzling Black and White! When did this come out again? 1980!! Cool, love this for them that they made a successful B&W movie in 1980.     Welcome to Scorcese’s 6th feature film New York New York, A gritty film diving into the crime ridden underbelly of….. Wait, what did you say? It’s a musical? Are you sure? Ok, I guess I should watch it before writing this. Ok I’m back. Welcome to Marty’s 6th feature film, New York New York, A musical drama, yes musical, that follows the rise of two musically inclined lovers in the aftermath of WWII. De Niro’s Jimmy Doyle is a hot headed saxophonist with ambition to get to the top no matter the cost. Liza Minneli’s Francine is a singer who elevates every performance she joins and it looks like the sky is the limit for her, but will Jimmy get in the way of her rise to fame? With huge “old Hollywood” style sets, whimsical musical numbers, and a full Broadway show medley, New York New York is Scorsese like you’ve never seen him before.     004. Mean Streets

    Dive into Scorcese’s first real “Scorcese Film.” This movie has everything; Gritty NYC, Gangsters, Drugs, DeNiro, Keitel, Violence, and the big one, Catholic Guilt and a heavy helping on non-PC 1960’s banter. A breakout performance from DeNiro steals every scene he’s in and moves Keitel out of Scorcese’s golden boy seat, but how is the overall story and character growth?     002. Who's That Knocking at My Door?

    Join Forrest and Kevin for the official beginning of our Scorcese feature filmography journey with his debut Who’s That Knocking at my Door. Starring a very young Harvey Keitel, we follow his character J.R. as he navigates his first love and reckons with his past and faith. This black and white beauty began as a student film and ended as a feature length film, giving us glimpses of Scorcese’s future film trademarks with great character conversation, soundtrack, and an ending that leaves the audience with a lot to think about.
