    039 - A Father's Faith, A Son's Gratitude

In this deeply personal episode of Growing Up Yakima, I share the passing of my dad and the incredible legacy he leaves behind. From surviving cancer at 18 to bravely battling pulmonary fibrosis later in life, he lived with quiet strength, steady faith, and a deep love for his family and community. I reflect on the adventures we had, the lessons he taught us, and the way he consistently pointed the people he loved toward hope and eternity. Watching the outpouring of support from friends and neighbors has reminded me just how many lives he touched. Recording this podcast over the past year has been a gift, giving me the chance to honor him while he could still listen. This episode is about legacy, faith, gratitude, and the kind of father who leaves big shoes to fill. I'm proud to carry his name, and even more proud to carry forward the values he lived by every single day.

038 - Game Day Grit and Real Life Lessons

In this episode of Growing Up Yakima, I kick things off by celebrating a huge Seahawks win and some wild Super Bowl stats, from record-setting field goals to a rare running back MVP. From grilling brats at halftime to talking about the Turning Point show and the emotions it stirred up, it's a fun mix of football, culture, and a little real-life perspective. We also get into the realities of today's job market, what I'm seeing from the employer side after reviewing more than 100 applications for a recent opening, and how different things feel compared to when we were starting out. And of course, I share why I believe this moment presents a unique opportunity in multifamily real estate and how we're helping people invest passively without the day-to-day landlord responsibilities. It's a lively conversation that covers everything from Super Bowl memories to smart investing strategies. Go Hawks. 037 - From Uncle Jimmy's Couch to Real Life Lessons

In this episode of Growing Up Yakima, I take a trip back to the days of Uncle Jimmy and his famous Clubhouse, birthday shoutouts on live TV, and those little cups of orange and vanilla ice cream. I share memories of Saint Joe's Elementary, being labeled a little "hyperactive," and even a chiropractor story that still makes me laugh and cringe at the same time. We also talk about how those early experiences shaped the way I think about responsibility, ownership, and investing today, and why so many people are looking for a simpler way to be involved in real estate without all the hands-on work. It's a fun blend of nostalgia and real-life lessons. And if you're curious to learn more about what we do, feel free to check things out at wearewilkinson.com.

036 - End Zone Seats and Small Town Streets

In this episode of Growing Up Yakima, I reminisce about riding the Rotary bus to the Kingdome with my dad to watch the Seattle Seahawks, cheering on heroes like Jim Zorn and Steve Largent, and pretending to be them on the playground at Saint Joe's. From bike gangs inspired by CHiPs to safe neighborhoods that let kids be kids, it's all about the kind of community that shapes you. I also share how those early experiences influence what we do today at Wilkinson, creating safe, well-run apartment communities and giving people a way to invest in real estate without the landlord headaches. 035 - Splitting Burritos and Building a Future

In this episode of Growing Up Yakima, I take a walk down memory lane, from splitting giant burritos at Santiago's on Yakima Ave to hiding in the toilet paper aisles at Market Foods, now Scarborough Fair. I share stories about growing up with my three siblings, working at a local grocery store, surviving a cheese-cutting injury at my cousin's deli, and why Yakima has always felt like home. Those memories shaped how I see community, hard work, and smart investing, which ultimately led me to what I do today with Wilkinson. I talk about why I came back to Yakima, why I believe in sensible, long-term real estate investing, and how we help people enjoy the benefits of real estate without the landlord headaches. It's a little nostalgia, a few laughs, and a reminder that sometimes the best investments, in life and money, start right at home. If you're ever curious about what we're up to at Wilkinson, you can find us at wearewilkinson.com.

    034 - Wish Lists & Wonder

This Monday on Growing Up Yakima, I got nostalgic talking about the old Sears Christmas catalog—the wish lists, dog-eared pages, and toys we dreamed about as kids. We shared a few laughs about what we wanted, what we got, and how much simpler growing up felt back then. That conversation naturally led into why community matters and how the places we live help shape those "growing up" memories for the next generation. If you'd like to learn more about our community-focused approach to multifamily investing, visit wearewilkinson.com.

033 - Gratitude, Family, and the Long Game

This week on Growing Up Yakima, I'm kicking off 2026 talking about gratitude, family, and why experience really matters—both in life and in investing. We get into the joys (and chaos) of parenting, the special role grandparents play in our kids' lives, and how those same values of wisdom, trust, and long-term thinking show up in the way we invest. I also share how our team at Wilkinson approaches multifamily real estate with a family-first mindset—treating our investors the way I'd want my own family treated. It's an easy, heartfelt conversation about relationships, perspective, and starting the new year with intention. 024 - How Do Values Guide Our Lives?

This episode I reflected back on a weekend full of Yakima experiences, from the Ellensburg Rodeo to family horseback events, sharing adventures with our Rotary youth exchange student, and celebrating the traditions that make our community special. These moments remind me of the value of family, connection, and exploring life beyond your hometown. I also share my journey back to Yakima, growing up on a hop and cherry ranch, and how those small-town values of hard work, perseverance, and community shaped my life and my 18 years with Wilkinson. At Wilkinson, we focus on creating strong, thriving communities through multifamily investing, helping people participate in real estate without the stress of direct ownership — all while staying true to the values that matter most. 023 - Small Town, Big Heart

This episode reminded me just how special our Yakima community truly is. From local fundraisers and youth sports celebrations, to a remarkable evening at the Yakima Valley Museum honoring U.S. Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, it was a weekend that showcased both the strength and heart of our town. I share reflections on what it means to stay connected, to value where you come from, and to recognize the power of integrity and purpose, qualities that have shaped both my personal journey and my 18 years with Wilkinson. Growing up in Yakima taught me the value of hard work, community, and faith in something bigger than ourselves, lessons I carry into every part of what I do today. 022- Rooted in Purpose

After an inspiring evening at the Lincoln Day Dinner hearning from and sharing a meal at home with James O'Keefe, I found myself reflecting on the importance of shared values, civic engagement, and the power of community. 020 - Yakima to Japan – Family Culture and Opportunity

In this week's Growing Up Yakima segment, I share highlights from my family's recent trip to Japan — a long-awaited dream inspired by our years of hosting Rotary youth exchange students. My family and I have had the joy of welcoming students from around the world, and it was incredible to reconnect with our former Japanese exchange student while exploring Tokyo and Kyoto together. From tasting Japanese comfort food and discovering centuries-old traditions to learning about samurai culture, the trip reminded me how valuable cultural immersion and global perspective can be for families and young people alike. I also connected this sense of freedom and opportunity to what we do at Wilkinson — helping clients build passive income through real estate investment so they can free up their time to enjoy life's adventures. 019 - Things are Different Now

Our twelve year old son has been begging to let him watch JAWS for years! We were cautious about allowing this for concern that he may hestiate to enjoy the water as much as we all do! On this 50th anniversary of the release of the movie he finally got his big chance.  I remember watching JAWS on the big screen at a drive in movie theatre with my friends when I was in high-school here in Yakima. As kids it felt like we had more freedom to do things than kids may feel now. Duke has been asking to run to the store on his scooter from time to time this summer so he can buy snacks. Reflecting back, we rode our bikes all over town when we were that age. We have slowly accepted that the independence is a good way to get him out of the house, taking a break from his gaming.  At the same time, he is develpng the skills at home while he plays games with friends here in town, across the country, and in europe. Together they engage in the playground chatter and a bit of taunting if I'm honest, but also learning how to communicate as they are constantly talking through their controllers with one another. They're coordinating their efforts and solving problems.  I can see how this kind of play, problem solving, and communication is setting these boys up to work toether in the future in whatever they decide to do professionally.

018 - Summer Fun in Washington

Our family loves the outdoors! We've had so many adventures throughout the state! As a kid, Boat camping at the Potholes Reservoir near was always a favorite for me and my siblings and cousins. The freeway lakes here in Yakima were also a great place to learn sail, appreciate the water, and sometimes cause great concern for my parents neighbors.  Wilkinson Multifamily Investing have been prodcuing remarkable results for over 34 years. 017 - What's In a Name?

I'm so proud of my hertiage and both of my parents. Each worked very hard and have developed a great reutation, that has helped to open doors for me and my siblings. This Father's Day, I honor my father and his name: McKinney. It has become a bran know for service, kindness and generosity. I work hard to uphold the values imparted by my him and continue his legacy into the next generation and beyond.  At Wilkinson we pursue these values through an acronym called I BUILD. I - Inspiring Quality Relationships B - Building beyond Business U - Unleashing a wealth of Life I - Innovating Systemati Excellence L - Loving People D - Doing the Right Thing These values drew me to Wilkinson and are the values our team shares.

  24. 16

016 - Have You Been Rafting Lately?

The Yakima River is a great place to enjoy the beauty of our valley! We have great memories from the being out on the water as a kid and now as an father with my own kids. The river can be gentle and relxing, and extremely dangerous too. Rafting as a kid has fueled my need for adventure throughout the west. And how about that fly fishing! Shannon Mahre has done a beautiful job bringing people to the vast resources around us, from stand up paddleboarding, mountain biking, fly fishing and skiing.  Passive real esate investing is a great way to break loose of the headaches and hassles that come with direct ownership of rental properties. Intersted in learning more, let's talk!

  25. 15

015 - Summer Means Swim Team

Growing up our family swam a lot. Both of our kids swam with the Selah Dolphins, and both dreaded the early (8:00 am) summertime practices. Our family swam year round at the YMCA swimteam, including 6:00 am practices at the Y downtown before walking to St. Joe's for the day. The summertime swim meets throughout the Yakima Valley are always so much fun watching the kids, cheering on the teams, and connecting with so many freinds, new and old. Community building is a huge part of our success at Wilkinson, as we create better places and reasons for people to connect.

  26. 14

014 - Thar She Blows! Remembering Mt. St. Helens

The eruption of Mt. St. Helens on May 18, 1980 is a vivid memory that will stay with me forever. We could see the mountain from our home and the plume of ash quickly rising and enveloping the valley as day turned to night, the sky so thick with ash that a streetlight could not be seen across the street. We don't face the same natural disaters found in other parts of the country, gratefully. When Wilkinson searches for multifamily real estate opportunties, we consider only great locations in areas that do not commonly expereicne significant natural disasters.

  27. 13

    013 - Growing Up Gamache

My mother is one of 18 Gamache family kids growing up on a hop and apple farm east of Yakima in Moxee. Growing up a Gamache meant the we learned how to do just about anything. From yardwork, to sewing, to creative projects, my mom always taught us how to or encourgage us to jump in and get the hard work done. Family reunions and easter gatherings were an amazing time to connect with so many aunts and uncles and 65 first cousins! Connections with my family and the can do spirit is whay drew me to Wilkinson in 2007.

  28. 12

012 - Bathed in Golden Sunlight

We have all done it. Woke up early to catch the 5:00 am flight out of Yakima. It's dark and cold and hard to get going so earlyin the morning. I was rewarded for my effort as we took off at dawn. The reminders of how gorgeous our vallen and as we approached Seattle how incredible our state's landscape is. The Cascade and Olympic Mountains, the Puget Sound, the rolling hills found in our own valley. We go on with appreication to undertand more about the purpose of leveraging tarrifs to build a stronger economy.

  29. 11

011 - The Diversity of Adventure in Washington State

As kids we explored so many of the unique areas our state has to offer. From camping on the sand dunes at Potholes Reservoir, water skiing on chilly Hood Canal, to Skiing at White Pass, our summer and winter memories are filled with incredible adventures.

  30. 10

010 - Ice Cream Cones as Big as Your Head

My son is now a middle schooler at Marquette, the same middle school I attended, and the school my father attended high school. It's been great to recall the years I spent playing, studying and getting in trouble on the playground, while empathizing with my son in his new surrounidngs While our routine has changed, we are now exploring Yakima icons to pick up a sweet treat or two on the way home from school as reward for a job well done.

  31. 9

009 - Meet Chris From LA

In this episode I introduce my freind Chris who grew up in Los Angeles, California. While he may not have earned money shoveling snow from neighbors driveways like we did, he always hustled to find a way to scrape together a few extra bucks to pursue his passions in the city of angels.

  32. 8

008 - Ginger or Mary Ann? - Growing Up Yakima -

Family time in the 70's and 80's was different than it is now. TV was great! M*A*S*H* and Happy Days, Gilligan's Island and so many others, inspiring laughter and serious conversation. Family night was enjoying our favorite shows without the distractions of our iPhones. Cable TV changed the game, and new shows served as inspiration to DYI fixer uppers. Big payoffs in real estate could be found at the right times, and led me to my 18 year career in real estate investing.

  33. 7

007 - From Three on the Tree to Young Life Roast Beef - Growing Up Yakima

004 - Politics are Local and Issues Can Be Complicated

As a boy I relive marching up and down the yard in front of our home holding the candidate's sign knowing little about the nature of the issues or the candidate themselves. As my wife began pursuing her role in county leadership as Comissioner, I have learned much more about how layered and complicated most issues really are.

  37. 3

003 - How Living in a Cardboard Box Changed Me

For many years I spent four days each December living in a cardboard box to raise awareness for those among us on the verge of and experiencing homelessness. The efforts generated over $100,000 in gifts and countless tons of food, clothing and toys all benefitting the Yakima Union Gospel MIssion and the Salvation Army.

002 - Reminiscing about Gilbert Park and Famous Athletes

Gilbert Park was just across the street and we spent countless hours there.
