Camden, Maine drops Ragged Mountain windmill plan

A one hour podcast of two windmill-related portions of the October 26, 2010 meeting of the Camden Select Board - the town's governing body. First, Jan Gilley, a member of Friends of Ragged Mountain, gives an update on that group's progress in informing the public of the issues that other Maine communities have faced with windmills. Then a review takes place of four candidates for membership on the four Camden member of the "Ragged Mountain Wind Work Group". (There are nine candidates, but only 4 had shown up at the meeting.) It became apparent that the only people interested in being on the group were opponents of the proposal. Learning that the citizens of Rockport and Hope - the other two towns of the three town plan - were mostly opposed, the Camden Selectboard voted unanimously on a motion to shelve the Ragged Mountain plan indefinitely and focus on other energy improvements: in conservation and improving existing water turbines on the Megunticook River.
