Georges Méliès the Father of Special Effects
I remembered learning about him in school but I didn't know about how we lost so many of his films. It is really such a shame. This was an interesting one to look up. I mostly did this episode cause have how often I see the recreation of the motorcycle scene from it. This was super interesting to look into. I had no idea that they had a union until now. I do hope that they gain some power and they improve the working conditions. Betty Boop
This was interesting to look up. It's a shame that we lost such a great character because of the Hays Code. It's also a shame that not everyone knows the true behind her inspiration.https://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/the-evolution-of-betty-boop-180979666/https://www.pbs.org/publiceditor/blogs/pbs-public-editor/betty-oops/https://freespiritmedia.org/features-search/2021/2/19/pgo59xkhv7whnz9lyyhk1puj8fpotihttps://www.blackhistory.com/2018/05/real-betty-boop-black-woman-baby-esther-whitewashed.htmlhttps://dustyoldthing.com/real-betty-boop/

Early History of the Animation Guild
Labor unions serve a very important function for the industry's that have them. The history of them is also super important. Thats why I wanted to do an episode on this. Plus the Loony Toon Lock Out is just to funny not to include in an episode.https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Disney_animators%27_strikehttps://collider.com/history-of-disney-strike-1941/https://www.zinnedproject.org/news/tdih/disney-animators-strike/https://www.awn.com/animationworld/disney-strike-1941-how-it-changed-animation-comicshttps://animationguild.org/about-the-guild/guild-history/https://cartoonresearch.com/index.php/the-life-and-death-of-looney-tunes-producers-schlesinger-and-selzer/https://daily.jstor.org/great-animation-strike/https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/disney-revolt-1941-animation-book-1235172968/

Ray Harryhausen and Dynamation

Astro Boy - The First Anime
I will admit that this episode did go a bit more into Osamu Tezuka than Astro Boy. I was just really impressed by his work and wanted to make sure that everyone knows about it. If you want to watch the first episode of Astro Boy there is a link to it in my resources. Let me know if there is anything you want me to do an episode on.https://www.colorado.edu/ptea-curriculum/sites/default/files/attached-files/twentieth-handout2.pdfhttp://www.robothalloffame.org/inductees/04inductees/astro_boy.htmlhttps://manga.tokyo/otaku-articles/atom-the-beginning-on-air-what-was-so-good-about-astro-boy-in-the-first-place/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpwbNYFvZy4https://tezukaosamu.net/en/manga/?c=120https://artsandculture.google.com/story/5-secrets-about-osamu-tezuka-s-creativity-tezuka-osamu/XwXxF9ZHOxZ-Iw?hl=enhttp://tezukainenglish.com/wp/?page_id=671

Rotoscoping
This technique of animation is very important to it's history. I am sure that many animated films could never have been made with out it. So that is why I decided to make an episode dedicated to it. Here are some resources if you want to learn more.https://www.fleischerstudios.com/origins.htmlhttps://www.lambiek.net/artists/f/fleischer_max.htmhttps://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Creator/MaxAndDaveFleischerhttps://www.masterclass.com/articles/rotoscope-animation-guide#6-films-that-use-rotoscopinghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROqlhMEWA70https://www.studiobinder.com/blog/what-is-rotoscope-animation-definition/
