In this episode of the House of Therapy podcast, I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Daniel Jose Gaztambide, a clinical psychologist, professor at Queens College, and author of two important books: 'A People’s History of Psychoanalysis: From Freud to Liberation Psychology' and 'Decolonizing Psychoanalytic Technique: Putting Freud on Fanon’s Couch.'We dove into the concept of decolonizing psychoanalytic practice, exploring how integrating Frantz Fanon’s ideas with Freud’s can lead to a more inclusive and socially conscious approach to therapy. Dr. Gaztambide shared valuable insights into how this process challenges psychoanalysis and opens up new ways of thinking about client-therapist dynamics, especially for marginalized communities within the psychoanalytic paradigm.
