2026 Episode 7: Memorial Stadium Renovation and Legacy Tickets
After years of talking about it, the renovation of Memorial Stadium is finally going to take place! On this edition of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast, Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka talk about the $600 million project. The project will bring major changes to the 103-year-old stadium. The south stadium will be completely demolished and rebuilt. This will create a 360-degree concourse and more fan amenities. Capacity will drop to 80,000 but will include 20,000 additional chairback seats and a 7,000-seat student section. Change does not come without complaints. People are unhappy with the project's price tag. They are also upset about the decision to eliminate legacy season tickets. As Travis and Dr. Rob Discuss, this is all part of doing business in today’s world of college football. Stealing a line from “The Godfather,” it’s not personal, it’s business. The podcast covers a lot of ground, including the proposed 5-for-5 eligibility rule. The Big Ten’s record payout to schools from the first full year of the new media contract. Also, the dangers to the transfer portal. We witnessed it firsthand recently with Brendan Sorsby at Texas Tech, who checked into a residential treatment facility for gambling addiction. The portal's shotgun marriages do not give teams enough time to conduct background checks on players. Unlike the NFL, which has a security team in place that knows everything possible about a player before the draft. 2026 Episode 6: Ashley Spitsnogle A Husker Work Of Art
On this edition of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast, Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka are tapping into their artistic side. Our guest is Ashley Spitsnogle. You may not know her name, but if you are a Husker fan, you have definitely seen her art. Some of you may even own one of her prints, or if you have a lot of money, an original painting. Ashley is an officially licensed Husker Artist who has captured the hearts, minds, and emotions of Husker Nation. Spitsnogle grew up on a farm in Odell, Nebraska. She attended Doane College and studied art. A lifelong Husker fan, she developed a passion for painting the Big Red after doing a live painting at a Teammates event. After that, opportunities kept presenting themselves, and her business continued to grow. You can find prints of her work at Husker Hounds or on her website. Decorate your man cave with spectacular pieces of Memorial Stadium, or some of the best players and coaches in Husker History. Getting to this point in her career has been a journey that she shares on this episode. Here’s a hint: becoming a licenced Husker artist is not as easy as one would think. There’s a lot of red tape, and now with Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), it’s even more complicated. But for her, and you, it’s all worth it. 2026 Episode 5: Huskers In The Sweet 16! Cary Cochran Interview
In this episode of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast, Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka are joined by former Husker sharpshooter Cary Cochran to celebrate a historic milestone: Nebraska’s deep run into the Sweet 16. Recorded on the eve of their high-stakes matchup against Iowa in Houston, the conversation captures a fan base and a program operating on "house money," balanced by the anxiety of a storied regional rivalry. The conversation centers on the transformative culture under Fred Hoiberg, a coach whose reputation has soared to the point where Cochran jokes they might soon build him a statue in Lincoln. The trio discusses how this particular roster has defied the "curse" of Nebraska basketball by embracing a brand of unselfishness that overcomes their lack of traditional first-round NBA talent. Cochran highlights the team's recent hot streak, noting that when the Huskers shoot as well as they have lately, specifically, their performance against teams like Vanderbilt, they become a threat to anyone in the country. A significant portion of the discussion focuses on the tactical and emotional weight of the Sweet 16 appearance. Cochran posits that Nebraska's cohesiveness is their greatest strength, allowing it to play at a level that "out-shoots" more talented opponents. He predicts a double-digit victory over the Hawkeyes, citing that Nebraska played poorly in its previous loss at Iowa and still nearly won, whereas it dominated at home. The conversation also touches on the broader implications of this success for the program's future. The hosts and Cochran speculate that this tournament run will finally trigger the necessary NIL investment in basketball, a move they deem essential if the program hopes to keep its developed talent from being poached by higher-paying schools. Amidst the excitement of being just "40 minutes from the Final Four," the episode serves as a tribute to a program that has finally traded its history of first-round exits for a seat at the "big kids' table" of college basketball. 2026 Episode 4: Barret Liebentritt-From Notre Dame To Nebraska
The Husker Doc Talk Podcast with Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka welcomes a guest Husker fans are going to enjoy: former Nebraska fullback Barrett Liebentritt. Before the interview even starts, the guys go on a classic Doc Talk tangent—this time sparked by Rob sending Travis a “strange times, strange places” text… from the campus of Grand View University in Des Moines. That turns into a fun (and surprisingly informative) conversation about NAIA athletics, wrestling weekends, and why Rob is basically fluent in Olympic and Big Ten wrestling while Travis is… not. Then it’s time for the main event: Barrett’s journey from being a Husker fan who wanted Nebraska first, to landing at Notre Dame during the weirdest recruiting era imaginable—COVID. Barrett explains what it was like to choose a high-level football path without camps, visits, or the normal recruiting process… and how his first real look at Notre Dame’s facilities happened when he literally showed up for school. From there, Barrett gets candid about the reality of being a walk-on at Notre Dame, the culture divide between scholarship guys and walk-ons under Brian Kelly, and the “wait… that’s it?” moment when Kelly left for LSU—an exit Barrett says felt abrupt, cold, and very “business first.” On the flip side, he shares why Marcus Freeman made such a strong impression and why players were fired up when Freeman took over. The heart of the episode is Barrett’s decision to come back home. He breaks down what pulled him to Nebraska—Matt Rhule’s vision, the idea of using a true fullback, and the chance to wear the N. The conversation expands into the modern state of college football: NIL, the portal, roster limits, and whether development-first coaching can still win in today’s “plug-and-play” world. And because this is Husker Doc Talk, you also get a ton of personality: ACT score trash talk, “stab lab” stories from dental school, beer-at-10-a.m. debate, and Barrett’s future plans as he pursues dentistry at UNMC—plus the sobering reality of the injury that ended his playing career early. It’s funny, real, and packed with insight on football, life, and the changing college landscape—exactly what Doc Talk does best. 2026 Episode 3: The 2026 Husker Football Schedule
Nebraska fans finally get the official 2026 football schedule, and on Episode 3 of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast, Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka waste no time breaking down what it really means: this thing is a gauntlet. They debate how much the order of games matters (Rob’s “one game at a time” mindset vs. the reality of how fans live and die with back-to-back matchups), then land on a blunt early takeaway: five wins might be the expectation, and seven should be celebrated considering the slate. The guys walk through the opening stretch (including why North Dakota could be sneakier than people think), the early Big Ten swing at Michigan State, and the brutal middle chunk featuring heavyweights like Indiana, Oregon, and Washington. From there, the conversation turns into a larger debate about modern roster building, how portal “rankings” can be fool’s gold, why production matters more than stars, and why recruiting services seem to magically boost ratings the second a player commits to a blueblood. It’s funny, cynical, and painfully familiar to anyone who’s followed college football for more than five minutes. The back half hits two hot-button topics: Mike Eckler leaving for USC and what it means for Nebraska’s special teams momentum, and then the one that gets Rob fully fired up, Nebraska adding women’s flag football instead of women’s wrestling. Rob doesn’t hold back, and the episode ends with an all-time closing statement: “Flag football is not football.” Watch on YouTube, drop your takes in the comments, and buckle up… because 2026 isn’t for the faint of heart. 2026 Episode 2: Husker Legend Dave Rimington Joins Travis and Rob
Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka welcome back one of the most iconic names in Nebraska football history—Dave Rimington—for his first appearance on the show since 2018. And it doesn’t take long to remember why a conversation with Rimington always turns into a mix of laughs, perspective, and some real talk about the state of college athletics. The guys kick things off on a bitter-cold January night—while the national championship game is literally starting in the background—then go straight into the origin story of Husker Doc Talk and Rimington’s role in helping get the podcast off the ground in the first place. From there, it’s classic Rimington: quick wit, candid honesty, and a few “only Dave” stories (including a deep dive into AI prompts, Facebook ads, and whether that Tai Chi chair guy is even real). But the heart of the episode is a thoughtful, wide-ranging discussion on what college football has become in the NIL + transfer portal era. Rimington and Zatechka unpack what “commitment” even means anymore—for players and coaches—why the portal timing feels broken, and how the sport is drifting toward a professional model without the guardrails the NFL actually has. The conversation also hits on local recruiting, development vs. “buying” older talent, and why the current system feels unsustainable for programs trying to build the old-fashioned way. There’s also plenty of Nebraska and Omaha pride: Rimington is back in town for the Rimington Trophy Presentation at the Rococo Theatre, honoring this year’s winner, Logan Jones (Iowa), and the episode highlights how the event has grown into a first-class weekend while raising millions for cystic fibrosis research over the years. Rimington shares what it’s like to still have his name attached to a major national award—and why maintaining the quality of the event still matters to him. Add in some NFL war stories, a little Memorial Stadium beer talk, a wrestling sidebar (because of course), and a heartfelt remembrance of Jim Hartung, and you’ve got an episode that feels like catching up with an old friend—who just happens to be a legend. Watch on YouTube, subscribe, and drop your comments—because this one will definitely get people talking. 2026 Episode 1: Zach Potter Interview and Husker Transfer Portal News
Welcome to Husker Doc Talk Podcast — 2026, Episode 1, and the first show of the new year kicks off the only way this crew knows how: a little chaos, a lot of laughs, and a deep dive into Husker football—plus some side quests that only happen when you put Travis Justice, Dr. Rob Zatechka, and a former Blackshirt in the same room. This episode is “about 20 years in the making,” as Travis and Rob finally welcome former Nebraska standout Zach Potter to the show. Potter’s visit turns into a fascinating walk through his career arc—from highly recruited Creighton Prep athlete, to Nebraska defender, to a four-year NFL run with the Jacksonville Jaguars after a whirlwind, last-second position switch that had him signing a contract, hopping a flight, and suddenly playing tight end in the Florida humidity. Zach shares what it’s really like living practice-squad life, grinding all day at the facility, trying to survive roster math, and navigating the less-glamorous realities fans rarely hear about—like taxes in multiple states, paying for your own tickets, and living out of an extended-stay hotel because you’re not sure if you’ll even be employed next week. Of course, the show also revisits one of the all-time debates: should Zach have played offensive line? Rob breaks down why he saw “natural tackle” traits in Potter years ago, while Zach explains why he chose the Blackshirt path—and why he has zero regrets. The conversation also gets real about the Callahan-to-Pelini transition, what it feels like when staffs change, why “losing a locker room” often comes down to one guy freelancing, and how quickly you have to re-prove yourself when a new coach walks in. And because it’s Husker Doc Talk, the episode doesn’t stop there: NIL and the transfer portal, the value vs.-money debate, Nebraska’s portal approach, and even a quick tour through the “upside down world” where Nebraska is rolling in basketball while Indiana is suddenly a football power. 2025 Episode 23: Utah Bowl Game Preview
The Husker Doc Talk Podcast wraps up the year with a festive, wide-ranging post-Christmas episode that blends holiday humor, sponsor shoutouts, and deep college football analysis—exactly what Husker fans have come to expect from Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka. The episode starts off lighthearted, and then the conversation turns serious with an in-depth breakdown of one of the biggest coaching stories of the season: Kyle Whittingham’s stunning move from Utah to Michigan. Travis and Dr. Rob examine the timing of the decision, the rumored friction with Utah’s administration, and what it means for Utah’s bowl preparation. They also debate whether Whittingham’s departure removes emotional fuel—or creates new motivation—for the Utes as they prepare to face Nebraska. The discussion naturally pivots to Nebraska football and the upcoming bowl game in Las Vegas. With key players opting out and a new coaching staff still settling in, expectations are tempered. Dr. Rob explains why this bowl game should be viewed through a developmental lens rather than a win-or-else moment, outlining Nebraska’s current roster gaps, particularly along the offensive and defensive lines. The two also explore how the transfer portal and NIL have reshaped roster construction—and why player evaluation and development matter more than ever. Quarterback play, portal strategy, and long-term program building dominate the second half of the episode, including a thoughtful debate about Nebraska’s future at QB and whether stability might be more valuable than chasing a one-year rental. The episode closes with a broader look at college football’s shifting power structure, comparing development-first programs like Iowa with big-money NIL schools, and questioning whether the Big 12 can truly keep pace with the Big Ten and SEC. It’s a candid, thoughtful, and entertaining year-end conversation—equal parts football breakdown, industry insight, and holiday camaraderie—making Episode 23 a perfect way to close out 2025 on the Husker Doc Talk Podcast. 2025 Episode 22: Playoff Action And Husker Changes
It’s a Christmas edition of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast, and Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka are in full post season form—mixing college football playoff takes, Husker reality checks, and the kind of off-the-rails holiday banter that feels like hanging out with your buddies in the basement… if your buddies also happened to break down offensive line technique and playoff selection politics. Episode 22 opens with the guys reacting to the first round of the College Football Playoff—what they watched, what surprised them, and what didn’t. From the “coulda/shoulda” playoff arguments (and the clickbait that fuels them) to the teams that looked legit, Travis and Rob debate what the games actually told us. They talk Alabama’s situation under Kalen DeBoer, the pressure of rebuilding in the NIL/portal era, and why judging coaches the same way we used to just doesn’t work anymore. Then the conversation shifts into one of the most hot-button topics in the sport: playoff expansion. Is 12 enough? (Rob says no.) Should it be 16? 24? Travis says bring it on—especially if it means more on-campus playoff games, which both guys agree are the best thing to happen to the sport in a long time. They dig into the ripple effects of automatic qualifiers, the shifting criteria coming next year, and what it means for group-of-five teams going forward. From there, it’s back to Lincoln. Travis asks the question Husker fans have been asking: Does Matt Rhule look different? More stressed? More “fishbowl-aware”? Rob reads the body language, talks staff changes, and explains why this moment feels less like a rebuild and more like a reset—new voices, new systems, and possibly a new quarterback era after Dylan Raiola’s departure. The guys also get real about what Nebraska should do next: chase a portal QB… or build around TJ Lateef and invest where it matters most—up front. Along the way, you’ll get sponsor shout-outs, a peppermint chocolate stout “breakfast beer,” stories from Rob’s debutante weekend, and a quick holiday wrap-up with what’s next for the podcast—more playoff talk, portal moves, and interviews lined up for the new year. Merry Christmas, Husker fans. Episode 22 is equal parts football, fun, and future-looking—exactly how the holiday edition should be. On this episode of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast, former Nebraska assistant coach Bill Busch joins Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka in the studio for a wide-ranging and insightful conversation. A fan-favorite guest, Bill brings his trademark knowledge, perspective, and strong opinions. The discussion opens with Nebraska volleyball and the Huskers’ surprising Elite Eight loss to Texas A&M, then quickly shifts to football. 2025 Episode 20: Iowa 40 Nebraska 16: What's Next For The Huskers?
Nebraska closed the regular season with a thud, getting blasted 40–16 by Iowa and stumbling into the offseason searching for answers — and maybe an identity. On this edition of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast, Travis Justice and former Husker offensive lineman Dr. Rob Zatechka break down exactly how the Huskers unraveled in their final two games, getting outscored 73–26 and dropping their third straight Black Friday matchup against Iowa. Since joining the Big Ten, Nebraska has gone 4–11 against the Hawkeyes — and the gap feels wider than ever. So now the question becomes: What changes are coming? Will Matt Rhule overhaul his staff? Will key players stick around or move on? We dive into the big offseason decisions, including: Will QB Dylan Raiola enter the transfer portal? Is RB Emmett Johnson NFL-bound? What roster and coaching moves must happen to stop this downward slide? It was also a wild weekend across college football — coaches fired, coaches hired, chaos everywhere, and Lane Kiffin doing what Lane Kiffin does: lighting a dumpster fire and then pretending he’s the one getting smoked out. One thing is certain: big changes are coming to the sport, and the ripple effects will hit everyone, including Nebraska. 2025 Episode 19: Penn State Beatdown, Iowa Up Next
In the Husker Doc Talk Podcast 2025, Episode 19, Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka hit the reset button for new listeners and long-time fans alike. After more than 20 years together behind microphones and 13 seasons of this podcast, they remind you what you’re signing up for: football, beer, history tangents, and brutally honest Husker talk. The guys crack into a “three-beer podcast” (that might quietly become a four- or five-beer show) featuring local favorites from Kros Strain Brewing and a deep dive into Pliny the Elder – yes, both the beer and the Roman author. Along the way, you’ll get craft beer notes, a quick Roman history lesson, and the usual Viking jokes at Dr. Rob’s expense before they shift into full football mode. Nebraska’s 37–10 beatdown at Penn State takes center stage. Was this the worst performance of the year, or does Minnesota still hold that crown? Travis and Dr. Rob break down why pointing fingers at the quarterback is lazy analysis. They put the spotlight where they believe it belongs: on the offensive and defensive lines, development versus recruiting, and whether Nebraska has slipped backward on defense after losing Tony White and Terrence Knighton. They also dive into T.J. Lateef’s outing, how he compares to Dylan Raiola, and why the real issue isn’t under center. Emmett Johnson’s monster season and quiet Heisman push get a serious look. Is he the best running back in the Big Ten, and what would he look like behind an elite offensive line? The guys talk NIL math, draft grades, transfer portal temptations, and whether Emmett’s future is in Lincoln, the NFL, or somewhere chasing a national title. Then it’s rivalry week: Iowa vs. Nebraska on Black Friday. Travis explains why Hawkeye fans are strangely comfortable living in the 7–8 win world of Kirk Ferentz, while Dr. Rob shocks everyone by actually picking Iowa to win—and to score on both defense and special teams. They break down Iowa’s run game, their shaky passing attack, and how Nebraska should defend a team that can’t throw it deep. There’s even time for some national drama: Lane Kiffin’s flirtation with LSU and Florida, the insanity of coaching expectations in places like Baton Rouge, and why Ole Miss might actually be Kiffin’s best long-term play. Of course, the show is brought to you by their friends at G-Defy (GDEFY.com, promo code DocTalk50), Orr Law Group, and Husker Hounds. Hit subscribe on YouTube, drop a comment, and if you found the show through HuskerMax.com, Travis and Dr. Rob say thank you and welcome aboard.

2025 Episode 18: Bye Weeks and Big 10 Money Drama
This is the Husker Doc Talk Podcast, 2025 – Episode 18 with Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka, and even though Nebraska had a bye week, there’s no shortage of things to talk about. Even without a Nebraska game, Husker football is never off the table. Travis and Rob revisit TJ Lateef’s performance against UCLA, why the timing of this bye week might actually be perfect for a true freshman quarterback, and whether fans are about to put unfair expectations on him heading into a night game at Penn State. They also talk about Nebraska–Penn State history, from classic Osborne–Paterno battles to the emotional post-Sandusky trip to Happy Valley. Then it gets big-picture: Do bowl games even matter anymore? Is it time to ditch most bowls and move to a 16, 20, or even 24-team playoff? How has NIL money created more parity and changed who can realistically compete for national titles? That leads directly into the Big Ten private equity conversation. Travis and Dr. Rob break down the proposed multi-billion-dollar deal, why some schools see it as a glorified payday loan, why Michigan and USC reportedly aren’t thrilled, and what it could mean for future TV deals, revenue sharing, and the balance of power inside the conference. And yes, Iowa sneaks into the conversation. The guys compare Iowa’s recent close losses to ranked teams with Nebraska’s own frustrations, and Rob answers a simple question with a complicated history: under a 12-team playoff, how far away is Nebraska from getting in — and does Iowa make it under Kirk Ferentz? Along the way, you’ll hear from sponsors like GDEFY shoes, Orr Law Group, and Husker Hounds.

2025 Episode 17: The Debut Of TJ Lateef. Husker Quarterback Controversy?
Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka are back in the basement; beers cracked, mics hot, and takes even hotter after Nebraska’s 28–21 win over UCLA. Travis plants a flag: TJ Lateef is the better fit for Dana Holgerson’s offense than Dylan Raiola. Rob parses the nuance: different QBs, different slices of the playbook—but against UCLA, Lateef looked composed and decisive, starting 11-for-11 and finishing 13-of-15 for 205 yards and 3 TDs, plus the legs to punish a defense (31 rushing yards) when the second read wasn’t there. Clean sheet, too: no turnovers, minimal penalties, and the offense stayed on schedule. The spotlight swings to Emmett Johnson, who just made himself some money: 28 carries for 129 and 103 receiving—the first Husker RB ever to hit 100/100 in a single game. The NFL loves backs who can block and catch; does Johnson jump now, chase NIL for one more season, or both? The portal/NIL realities get the full Doc Talk treatment, including how backup market value changes overnight and why some players know their next stop before they even hit the portal. Defense? The numbers say “solid,” the eyes say “still leaky.” UCLA went 8-for-14 on third down and hit a couple of chunky scrambles when the contain broke. The pass rush flashed, but Rob wants a few more of those get-off-the-field moments—turn two or three conversions into stops, and the whole night feels different. Beyond football, the guys hit Husker Wrestling—packed house vibes, Mark Manning’s machine, and the AJ Ferrari showmanship question (Cal State Bakersfield version, please). Since the Huskers aren't playing next week, make plans for Saturday night! Producer Owen Justice is gigging Saturday at Reverb Lounge, opening for Ben Chapman (buy one, get one tickets—support local music!). Shoutout to Doug at Kros Strain for a clutch case drop—yes, the Cornhusker Crusher (Herbie on the can, the “correct” Herbie) makes an appearance, along with a surprisingly sippable morning “breakfast” lager—Inflatable Snowman with cranberry and cinnamon. The guys also riff on stadium beer lines and why UNL’s grab-and-go needs triple the pay stations if you want fans back in seats before the next series. A bye week is up next before Penn State and Iowa, but the pod rolls on. Hit subscribe, drop your takes below, and keep the beer recommendations (and care packages) coming. 2025 Episode 16: Huskers Black Out Against USC
This is the Husker Doc Talk Podcast — 2025, Episode 16 — with Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka. If you’re watching on YouTube, smash that subscribe button and ring the bell so new episodes land right away. Listening on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or anywhere else? Tap “Follow” so we’re always in your queue, and leave a quick review to help more Husker fans find the show. This week, we start with the Saturday night roller coaster in Lincoln. Nebraska had USC on the ropes at halftime, and Travis was ready to declare it Matt Rhule’s signature win… until the second half flipped. We dig into the turning points: Dylan Raiola’s third-quarter exit, why Nebraska’s run fits unraveled, and how a defense that held USC to 337 total yards still surrendered the game on the ground. Dr. Rob walks through the trenches: the interior getting knocked back, contain issues on the edge, and what that means in a Big Ten built on downhill football. Quarterback talk is unavoidable. Raiola isn’t the problem — but does TJ Lateef’s mobility unlock a different ceiling for this offense? We kick around what a full week of starter reps could look like for Lateef, what the receiver room needs to do to separate, and the difference between “better play-calling” and “good play-calling.” On the bright side: Emmett Johnson keeps carrying the load (29 carries, 165 yards in this one) and is tracking toward an All–Big Ten season. Then it’s the stretch run: UCLA, Penn State, and Iowa. Which is the most winnable game — and why are the guys circling Penn State on the road? Rob resets expectations (seven wins feels like the realistic new baseline) and pinpoints the line play improvements from Evans at center and the one-and-done boost from Rocco Spindler — plus where tackle remains a concern. Would a dedicated tackles coach help? (Cue the Brian Ferentz-as-OL-coach debate and a few memes.) We also tackle the “blackout” conversation. Production value? A+. The look? Eerie and cool. But do alternate uniforms move the needle when you’re not stacking wins? Travis argues it’s a gimmick fans love but recruits don’t care about in the NIL era — wins matter most. Agree or disagree, the crowd delivered. From there we zoom out to the national picture: the coaching carousel spinning, big-name jobs opening, and why stability in Lincoln still matters. Rhule’s extension makes sense, but staff self-scouting has to be ruthless. Want to build sustainably? We go deep on recruiting philosophy with a Bill Bush-inspired segment: the #1 trait is competitiveness — grit — not just measurables. It’s why some overlooked kids become program pillars while five-stars fade. That launches a lively sidebar on in-state QB recruiting (hello, Braylon Warren), relationship equity, and why you still offer your best local players even if the depth chart is crowded. We even sneak in some winning football: Augustana is 9-0 and sitting pretty in its super region despite injuries — Rob’s rocking the powder-blue lid and explains DII regional calculus like a pro. Speaking of lids, we commiserate about $50 hats and why the right one is worth it. Shoutouts to the folks who keep this free for you: Orr Law Group — litigation, estate planning, NIL savvy and more. 2025 Episode 15: Nebraska 28 Northwestern 21
Nebraska 28, Northwestern 21. The Huskers are now bowl eligible for the second year in a row and improve to 6-2 on the season and 3-2 in the Big 10 Conference. Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice discuss the win in the latest edition of Husker Doc Talk Podcast. Nebraska scored 14 of its 28 points off Northwestern turnovers. The Huskers also get a kickoff return for a touchdown. Despite rushing for 155 yards, including 124 from Emmett Johnson, Dr. Rob still sees some problems with the offensive line. Speaking of Johnson, Dr. Rob and Travis think he's the best running back in the Big 10 Conference. His numbers back up the opinion, but it also shows how much Nebraska needs him if the Huskers want to keep winning. Additionally, Northwestern rushed for 172 yards, indicating some holes and deficiencies in the Nebraska interior front. Up next is USC. The Trojans did not play this past weekend. According to ESPN's game predictor, USC has a 72% chance of winning. Please support our sponsors: This podcast would not be possible without the generosity and support of our sponsors. 2025 Episode 14: Meltdown At Minnesota-What Is The Real Problem With Nebraska?
Minnesota 24, Nebraska 6—and it felt worse. Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka break down a Friday-night flop that saw nine sacks, a sputtering run game, and a defense bullied on a 98-yard, 8:43 drive to open the second half. Is Nebraska’s offensive line development the program’s biggest long-term problem? What’s fair criticism of Donovan Raiola after five seasons? And where do Matt Rhule and his coordinators fit in when halftime adjustments don’t show up? They also look ahead to Northwestern—now quietly 5–2—discuss why the Wildcats’ ball-control blueprint is Nebraska’s worst nightmare, and explain why the Huskers’ margin for error remains razor thin heading into the season’s final five games. 2025 Episode 13: Huskers Beat Maryland And Matt Rhule To Penn State Rumors Start
For the second straight week, Nebraska clawed its way back from a second-half deficit to pull out a win. Despite Dylan Raiola throwing three interceptions and the Huskers trailing Maryland by 7 points, Nebraska rallied for a 34–31 victory over the Terrapins. In this episode of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast, Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka break down how the Huskers found a way to win and what this comeback means for the rest of the season. But the biggest storyline emerging this week isn’t just Nebraska’s resiliency — it’s the future of Head Coach Matt Rhule. With Penn State firing James Franklin after a stunning home loss to Northwestern, Rhule’s name has quickly surfaced as a top candidate. A Penn State alum and former player, he’s already being mentioned across national media outlets. Is the Penn State job truly better than Nebraska? Dr. Rob weighs in with his thoughts — and what it could mean for the Huskers moving forward. Nebraska beats Michigan State 38–27 in a game that felt tougher than it had to be. On this edition of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast, Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka break down the sacks (12 in two weeks), what the staff is asking Dylan Raiola to do (and not do), and why Mike Eckler’s special teams might be Nebraska’s best unit right now.
