#E67 The Future Should Adapt to Us, Not the Other Way Around, With Phnam Bagley

"The moon is basically grayscale. It's dark gray or light gray. There's no atmosphere, which means that the sky is completely black. There's no sunsets and sunrises. And on mars everything is very orange because the regolith is very rich in iron. The atmosphere is very thin on mars and the sunsets on mars are blue."I sat down with Phnam Bagley a few days after we met at the Dubai Future Forum, and this turned out to be one of the most interesting conversations I've had in a while.Phnam is a designer, space architect, and founder of Nonfiction. Her work spans brain implant systems that, in early clinical trials, are showing real potential for people with treatment-resistant depression, with some patients experiencing meaningful change in just five days, all the way to designing for human life in space. She even served as commanding officer on an analog astronaut mission on one of the most remote islands on the planet. She made the point that we've spent so long designing for the masses and for the elite, but the real challenge is designing technology that adapts to every single person. Not just in space, but everywhere. If you're disabled, elderly, a child, the environment should adjust to you, not the other way around. That principle runs through all of her work, from the brain implant system to the sleep device to the renewable energy batteries in East Africa. She also told me this story about an executive coach who works with CEOs. The coach met a former child soldier in Uganda who'd been through everything but was full of hope. When she asked his secret, he said, 'Because I believe in myself.' She went back to her clients who had every advantage and couldn't shake the contrast. This episode covered a lot of ground, from neuroscience to space architecture to what it actually takes to believe in yourself.FOLLOW ►Instagram: https://bit.ly/briarigLinkedIn: https://bit.ly/briarlinkedinTikTok: https://bit.ly/briartiktokWebsite: https://briarprestidgeofficial.com

#E66 Joy, Dancing, and the Science of Living Longer With Tina Woods

“Lots of money is being made in chronic diseases. And I have to say pharma is one of them… The food industry is another one. They make a lot of money making us sick.”Tina Woods is back on Hyperscale, and honestly, this one stuck with me.She went viral around the world after learning to DJ at 60. She’s been documenting her biological age reduction through HRT, intermittent fasting, dancing, joy, and genuine human connection. But the thing that really got me was her radical vision for a longevity revolution and why she believes the entire healthcare system needs a complete overhaul. We talked about loneliness killing more people than smoking. We talked about how ancient Chinese medicine’s approach to healthcare challenges the modern system. She told me about going from foot surgery to becoming a viral DJ sensation, and why joy and connection are measurable longevity tools that can have a powerful impact on the body, far beyond what most people assume.Tina is the Founder and CEO of Collider Health, Executive Director of the International Institute of Longevity, and a steering committee member of the Human Exposome Project, a global scientific initiative that could be even bigger and more complex than the Human Genome Project. Her City of Longevity initiative also recently won the Foresight Award (People’s Category) at the Dubai Future Forum.I walked away from this conversation thinking differently about what health actually means. I think you will too.FOLLOW ►Instagram: https://bit.ly/briarigLinkedIn: https://bit.ly/briarlinkedinTikTok: https://bit.ly/briartiktokWebsite: https://briarprestidgeofficial.com

“So that's a sick care model… built around treating you when you're sick. And all the institutions and interests around that are propped up actually by chronic diseases. That's the problem. It's the whole incentive structures that are misaligned. And they're perversely against you,” said Tina Woods, the Founder and CEO of Collider Health, and the Co-Founder and CEO of Longevity International.  She is a renowned advocate for improving health parity and longevity who brings diverse stakeholders together in shared endeavors to improve and level up health, working at the cross-section of science, technology, investment, and policy/government. #E47 Will AI Bring About The End Of Humanity? With Theo Priestley & Beth Singler

“We're not going to get a Skynet. I think the James Cameron-sort of future of one all-seeing, all-knowing and essentially the existential threat that the government seems to want to paint a picture of, it's not going to happen.” On this special EMERGENCY episode of HYPERSCALE, I am joined by Professor Beth Singler and Futurist and Author Theo Priestley, who have joined me to discuss the government-commissioned report recently published in Time magazine, warning that AI poses an extinction-level threat to humanity. The three authors of the report worked on it for more than a year, speaking with more than 200 government employees, experts, and workers at frontier AI companies—like OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Anthropic and Meta— as part of their research.  Are these fears justified? We need to educate people about the true potential, and threat, of AI, which can be hard to do given how most of humanity is busy surviving one day at a time, often giving up their privacy and autonomy for the sake of convenience. Join us for an introspective conversation where we explore the timeliness of this report, what it means, why it shouldn’t necessarily be taken at face value, the actual risks posed by AI, the importance of holding AI developers accountable, and more on this episode of HYPERSCALE. #E46 A Good Future is a Future That is Inclusive, With Biljana Markova

“First we make technology, then technology makes us.” On this special International Women’s Day episode of HYPERSCALE, I am joined by Biljana Markova, an eco-luxury entrepreneur, animal and social activist, and one of my dearest friends.  Above, she paraphrased the famous saying: “First we shape our tools, thereafter our tools shape us,” noting the importance of being proactive and considerate of how we design technology today, as the mindset (with all its biases and limitations) that creates tomorrow’s solutions will be the same one that dictates how our technology will influence us. If one gender or one race designs the AI that will govern our future, how will this reflect on all the different people who do not share this person’s gender and race? It is questions like these that remind us of the importance of diversity at the tech roundtables and the highest boardrooms. “I think we are at a point where if we don't wake up now, if we don't develop our human [conscience] quickly, if we don't become wiser, then we will use our technology to destroy ourselves versus using our technology to live in a utopia, to reach that higher state of awareness and consciousness and enlightenment that we are on a path to reach.” Join us for an introspective and philosophical conversation where we explore women’s role in an ever-evolving world of technological innovation, the importance of diverse voices convening today to shape a more inclusive tomorrow, and why we urgently need to equalize the playing field in terms of equality and inclusivity, as what we do now will define our reality in the years to come. #E43 Connecting With Loved Ones After Death, With Robert Ginsberg

“Some believe that this physical world has a purpose and there are certain experiences in this vast continuum of life that we can only experience in this physical realm. But a lot of people believe that even though we no longer have a body, we still have a mind, or a soul, or a consciousness. I like to use those terms interchangeably - to me, they're the same thing that continues on. And not only does it continue on, but it continues on with some memories and personality intact, so you don't totally lose your identity.” On this episode of HYPERSCALE, I am joined by Robert Ginsberg, the Founder of Forever Family Foundation, and an expert who has been investigating consciousness and the phenomenon of mediumship for over 20 years. Robert started researching evidence for the survival of consciousness after he lost his daughter in a tragic accident in 2002. Originally a skeptic, he conducted his own research into historic accounts and records, and spoke with numerous scientists, doctors, and mediums hoping to better understand consciousness, how it extends beyond our brain and body to other people, and what happens to it after death. Faced with what he sees as irrefutable evidence, he would go on to have 74 dream visitations from his deceased daughter over a five-year period. #E42 In The Face Of AI, Humanity Must Prove Its Value, With Steve Fuller

“Humans have to raise their game. They have to be valued for something else, for something more, because we have now made machines that basically can replace us. And I think that is the bottom line question when it comes to humanity's relationship to AI: what is the value added of being human?” On this episode of HYPERSCALE, I am joined by Steve Fuller, a social philosopher and an instructor at the University of Warwick. Steve is an advocate for social epistemology and academic freedom, and supports the concepts of intelligent design and transhumanism. #E37 Mind Uploading, Consciousness After Death, and Sentient AI, With Max Velmans

“It's not like, you know, lifting the hard drive of the brain and loading it onto another hard drive or in the cloud.” On this episode of HYPERSCALE, I am joined by Max Velmans, an emeritus professor of psychology at the University of London, who has over 40 years of experience and over 130 publications under his name.  Max is one of the most prominent experts on consciousness today, so I was excited to pick his brain (no pun intended!) for everything related to our mind and consciousness.  We discussed everything from mind uploading, to sentient AI and consciousness after death. Max’s rich body of expertise and knowledge had me questioning my fundamental understanding of the mind and consciousness and our relationship with the world around us.    FOLLOW ► Instagram: https://bit.ly/briarig  LinkedIn: https://bit.ly/linkedin  TikTok: https://bit.ly/briartiktok  Website: https://briarprestidgeofficial.com

#E36 Musk Is Right: We Need More Population, Not Less, Says Futurist and Theologian Ziba Norman

"I do not think that we have a problem with population. I think we need more population, not less. I agree with Elon Musk on that a hundred percent, but we need to stop also looking at this in terms of worshiping Mother Gaia. We are not here simply as observers. We are curators - we are creators as well." "And so if transhumanism could add something to the discussion, I would hope it could take it into a realm where we are not just focusing on 'stewardship' of the planet." On this episode of HYPERSCALE, I am joined by Ziba Norman, a Senior Research Fellow at the University College London, and a prominent theologian and futurist. Ziba is recognized for her significant work at the crossroads of theology and technology. Given Ziba's rich theological background, I was excited to hear her take on transhumanism, and she did not disappoint, bringing a fresh perspective I had yet to hear on the show. In her opinion, not only does transhumanism carry heavy mystical implications, but it will be "an essential part of religious expression in the future." Ultimately, she believes that humanity is the center focus of the Earth, and while it is important to respect nature, we should not play second fiddle to it, but use technology to shape it to our will and for our benefit. Transhumanism and augmentation will be a part of this equation. As for AI, she is of the opinion that it is folly to treat it as an all-knowing entity. After all, everything AI knows is based on human knowledge, and its thinking and processing capabilities are products of manmade algorithms and frameworks. To worship and revere our own creation, then, makes no sense. Join us for an enlightening conversation as we explore the bridge between theology and technology, the role and potential of humanity on Earth, the possibility of alien contact, and more.   FOLLOW ► Instagram: https://bit.ly/briarig LinkedIn: https://bit.ly/linkedin TikTok: https://bit.ly/briartiktok Website: https://briarprestidgeofficial.com

#E35 Transcending the Limitations of Evolution Begins When Mindsets Shift, With David Wood

“It’s not just about having longer lives, it’s also about having bigger lives. Life expansion rather than just life extension. To make this happen, we need to move from not just envisioning a future, but saying, ‘Hey, this is a good direction, let’s move towards it, let's make it happen’.”   On this episode of HYPERSCALE, I am joined by David Wood, the celebrated author of "The Death of Death" and "The Abolition of Aging", a visionary futurist who chairs the London Futurists, regularly contributes to its newsletter, and heads the independent futurist consultancy, Delta Wisdom. With foresight fed from a diverse background in technology, David Wood humanizes radical tech disruptions and transformations that change – and could potentially alter - society and humanity.   In this conversation, David discusses how humanity is at the cusp of transcending the limitations of evolution, how we can access a whole new level of consciousness soon, how we can become “a thousand times smarter”, and how we can lead not just longer but bigger and more meaningful lives – if we just accept where we’re heading and shift our mindsets to receive the benefits of scientific reality.   Tune in to the latest episode to figure out how technology rejuvenation, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, nano surgery, genetic reprograming, and more are changing “what’s possible”. #E34 The 4 Factors That Decide Our Biological Age, With Sebastijan Orlić

Nutrition, sleep, stress, and physical activity. These are the 4 factors that govern our "biological age," and influence our overall health.  On this episode of HYPERSCALE, I am joined by Sebastijan Orlić, the CEO of health consulting company Quality of Life, and a Specialist at GlycanAge, a company that helps people identify their true biological age and helps them improve their lives with longevity best practices. After conducting a blood test with GlycanAge, Sebastijan informed me that my biological age is 38, which came as a surprise as I have been quite strict with myself in terms of my diet and lifestyle. This prompted me to go into a deep dive with him into the biology of the body, and the actual best practices that help us achieve a more accurate biological age, and promote overall longevity. How many hours of sleep do our bodies actually need? Which intensity level of exercise is actually good for us? And how do we achieve our correct biological age? #E33 The Road to Becoming a Cyborg Starts with a Microchip, with Jowan Österlund

"The only reason a lot of technology is monopolized rather than democratized is the bar is so high to get in. But now... you can get more or less any type of technology fairly cheap. Even if it's not the utmost cutting-edge tech, you can still get it and tweak it, hack it, and make it perform stuff that wasn't supposed to. And, find new areas of use." On this episode of HYPERSCALE, I am joined by Jowan Österlund, a body piercer turned biotech entrepreneur, who's become one of the most vocal advocates of the biohacking movement in Sweden and the world. He is the CEO of Biohax International, and currently leads commercial biohacking in Sweden with his vision of seamless interaction between humans and technology.  In this conversation, Jowan discusses the democratization of technology, and the socioeconomic obstacles present today that hinder certain tech developments from becoming affordable, accessible and mainstream. He also weighs in on the data economy, and how we've come to willingly give up our data with nothing to show for it. In addition, he attempts to untangle the negative connations people have come to associate with biohacking, thanks to sci-fi media that often depicts this technology with dystopian undertones.  Tune in for a conversation with the man turning humans into cyborgs, one microchip at a time. #E31 Epigenetic Reprogramming Is the Key to a Longer Lifespan, With Yuri Deigin

On this episode of HYPERSCALE, I am joined by Yuri Deigin, a longevity activist, drug developer, and the Co-Founder and Director of YouthBio Therapeutics, a company developing tissue-specific rejuvenating gene therapies based on partial cellular reprogramming.    Yuri’s journey with longevity is a personal one. After he lost his grandmother to Alzheimer’s, he underwent a DNA test and discovered that he carried two copies of a specific allele, epsilon four, which is a variant of a gene called Apolipoprotein E (Apo-E). This meant that he was 15 to 20 times more at risk of Alzheimer's than people who didn’t carry this allele, which put his entire life in perspective.   Since that discovery, Yuri has devoted his time and efforts to exploring Alzheimer’s and researching drugs and gene therapies to combat it. Given that Alzheimer’s is a primarily age-related disease, his attention quickly shifted to longevity treatments and cellular reprogramming efforts to address the disease at its root cause.    Tune in as we explore the mind-blowing potential of gene therapies and manipulation, altering humanity on a basic level.    FOLLOW ►    Instagram: https://bit.ly/briarig   LinkedIn: https://bit.ly/briarlinkedin   TikTok: https://bit.ly/briartiktok   WEBSITE: https://briarprestidgeofficial.com

#E30 Is Cryopreservation A Second Chance At Life, With Max More

"People who say 'Why should you live longer? That's not normal.' Go back a little bit. It was normal to die at 20 or 30, or 40 at best. So why is today's lifespan exactly right? That's obviously nonsense." On this episode of HYPERSCALE, I am joined by Dr. Max More, one of the founders of the modern philosophy of transhumanism, co-founder of the Extropy Institute, an organization crucial in building the transhumanist movement since 1990, and Ambassador and President Emeritus of the Alcor Life Extension Foundation, one of the largest cryonics facilities in the world. Dr. Max is an internationally acclaimed strategic futurist who writes, speaks, and organizes events about the fundamental challenges of emerging technologies. Max is concerned that our rapidly developing technological capabilities are racing far ahead of our standard ways of thinking about future possibilities. His work aims to improve our ability to anticipate, adapt to, and shape the future for the better. Drawing on philosophy, economics, cognitive and social psychology, management theory, and other fields, he develops solutions and strategies for minimizing the dangers of progress and maximizing the benefits we stand to reap, especially when it comes to extending our lifespan beyond our current understanding, what he dubs the "status quo bias." #E29 Defining Immersive Reality And The Metaverse And Leveraging Them to Better Our Lives, With Sophia Moshasha

“I don’t think that [the Metaverse] is going to be a replacement for seeing people in real life. I think it's actually going to be a significant extension of what we can do in real life and how we can meet people." On this episode of HYPERSCALE, I am joined by Sophia Moshasha, Vice President of the DC Chapter of the VR/AR Association, co-founder of XR women, and a producer and host of The Polys - WebXR Awards, who since 2017 has been actively engaged in the immersive technology community and a field expert consulted by leading media platforms. Over the years, Sophia has played a vital role in guiding policy and standard-setting organizations like the VR/AR Association, Congressional Reality Caucus, Metaverse Standards Forum, and the National Training and Simulation Association. Her efforts equip these entities to comprehend the immersive technology landscape, ensuring they are well-equipped to meet the burgeoning interest in adopting these technologies. Immersive reality is a massive opportunity, but to truly leverage it, content will need to be at the forefront. As Sophia explains, XR will need to go beyond gaming.  "We need these killer applications that will make people's lives easier." Part of the solution lies in defining these different realities. After all, the ‘metaverse’ might not be the catch-all term we think it is. Right now, immersive reality is undergoing multiple growth phases, and seeing the integration of other technologies like AI, blockchain, edge computing and more.  Ultimately, the goal will be for immersive reality to make our lives better and more functional and intuitive. #E28 To Defeat Aging, We Must First Acknowledge That It Can Be Cured, With Aubrey de Grey

"A large part of it is simply learned helplessness, as in like, we've been terribly aware of aging since the beginning of civilization and we have been completely unable to do anything about it. So we have simply developed these ways to put it out of our minds and get on with our miserably short lives and made the best of it, rather than being preoccupied with this terrible thing that's going to happen to us." On this episode of HYPERSCALE, I am joined by Aubrey de Grey, a world-famous transhumanist, writer, and biomedical gerontologist who has been researching the medical answer to aging in humans for over 30 years. He currently serves as President and Chief Science Officer at Longevity Escape Velocity Foundation. Aubrey notes that now that we have an actual plan to address aging, through tangible, tested medical science, we can begin to tackle and hopefully erode this entrenched learned helplessness surrounding the supposed inevitability of aging. After all, he believes that almost every aspect and side effect of aging is replicated in a kind of sped-up manner in certain diseases. Fortunately, there's been more funding in longevity research now than there was even five years ago. However, Aubrey notes that this funding is extremely unevenly distributed, where an overwhelming majority of it is going to a few "fashionable, let's call them low hanging areas, areas where progress has been made rapidly and where there's a good chance of making revenue fairly soon," he explains. "Because this is coming from investors more than from donors." Still, the fact that there is a greater number of people that are interested in longevity and the future of the human body bodes well for a future free of death. Ultimately, he emphasized, it's absolutely critical to understand that the idea of bringing aging under comprehensive medical control is "very much science foreseeable now, not science fiction." Join us in this exciting conversation as we hear from one of the greatest minds in the field of transhumanism, and what his vision for the future is like. #E27 How a Brush With Death Led to a Pursuit of Immortality and a Race for the Presidency Against Trump, With Zoltan Istvan

"Right now, 20% of America's GDP is going towards [the] military and funding wars and things like that. Whereas, can you imagine if they were funding bionic hearts or they were funding cures for diabetes or finding cures for Alzheimer's?" On this episode of HYPERSCALE, I am joined by Zoltan Istvan, a prominent transhumanist, journalist, philosopher and former US presidential candidate. After a close call with a landmine in Vietnam nearly cost him his life, Zoltan has come to reconsider the concepts of life, death and potential immortality. Realizing the frailty of the human body, he has spent the rest of his life since advocating for new technology and treatments to help us prolong our lifespan, and ultimately live forever.  But is immortality a guaranteed result? Even Zoltan wonders this himself, which has led him to identify the "transhumanist wager." Essentially, this philosophy recognizes that a prolonged lifespan is not guaranteed, but if we do nothing, we will all expect to die between the ages of 70 and 100 (or so) years. However, if we spend our lives promoting transhumanism and pursuing means of radical life extension, we better our odds of long-term survival. Therefore, Zoltan reasons, anyone who doesn't want to accept a normal lifespan must throw themselves into transhumanism. They must make the transhumanist wager. Tune in as we explore Zoltan's intriguing life journey so far, his insightful thoughts on transhumanism and longevity, and what actions the world will need to take for a chance to make these concepts a reality. #E26 Understanding the Implications of Sentient AI and the Role of Humanity in a Digital-First Future with Tech Expert and Futurist Theo Priestley

“I do see artificial general intelligence, AI that is capable of human-level intellect and creativity, [become a reality] within 10 years, which kind of poses a problem because it does give us a countdown in a sense.”  “If we are complacent and wait for it to happen, then it will be too late. Because at that point in time, you will be talking to your computer or through an interface like you and I are talking. There’s no going back from that point.” On this episode of HYPERSCALE, I am joined by Theo Priestley, a renowned futurist, tech expert and international speaker.  With a long history of being involved in the tech world, Theo shares insights about what we can expect from artificial intelligence once we reach the point of singularity, when AI becomes as intelligent as humans, and how we will have to contend with a new type of sentient beings. Will AI develop to the point where humans become obsolete? Will we all serve an AI overlord? Will we merge with technology to keep up with this new machine intelligence? Will chips and device implants make us more susceptible to influence and manipulation?  Tune in to this exciting conversation as we explore the implications of sentient AI, digital twins, and longer lives. #E25 Ending Human Suffering Using the Three Supers of Transhumanism With David Pearce, Philosopher and Co-Founder of Humanity+

“A triple S civilization of Super Longevity, Super Intelligence and Super Happiness — that’s what I work for as a transhumanist.” On this episode of HYPERSCALE, I am joined by David Pearce, a philosopher and the co-founder of the transhumanist association Humanity+. David’s life has been devoted to transhumanist topics and what he calls the "hedonistic imperative,” a moral obligation to work towards the abolition of suffering in all sentient life. He believes that through technological advancement, humanity will be able to address both the mental and physical ailments that lead to us experiencing suffering. Eventually, we will be able to nip these issues in the bud on the genetic level, before birth even. David views technology such as genetic engineering and AI as some of the key enablers that will allow us to achieve these goals. Eventually, he sees humanity extending these options to animals as well, where we will be able to reprogram their bodies and improve their lives.   In this conversation David Pearce and Briar discuss topics such as: David's early interest in transhumanism and his thoughts on aging and death. The three supers of transhumanism: super longevity, super intelligence, and super happiness. The potential of genome editing and the idea of phasing out suffering through genetic modifications. The role of big corporations and governments in promoting super happiness and the need for diverse perspectives in shaping the future. The possibility of living forever through anti-aging technologies and genome editing. The potential impacts of super intelligence and the importance of exploring various forms of intelligence, including phenomenal binding consciousness. The significant changes and challenges in the next 20 years and the potential for revolutionizing minds through designer babies and advanced technologies.   FOLLOW ► Instagram: https://bit.ly/briarig LinkedIn: https://bit.ly/briarlinkedin TikTok: https://bit.ly/briartiktok WEBSITE: https://briarprestidgeofficial.com

#E23 Understanding Immortality and What Life Will Be Like by 2045, With Futurist José Luis Cordeiro

“We will have two types of immortality. Software immortality and hardware immortality.” On this episode of HYPERSCALE, I am joined by José Luis Cordeiro, economist, futurist, transhumanist and the author of the best-selling book “The Death of Death.”José explains to me that in the future, by 2045, we will achieve immortality, essentially able to rejuvenate the human body and reverse ageing. He dubs this biological impermanence hardware immortality. The second kind, software immortality, involves us as posthumans living in digital worlds, with our mind constructs uploaded to the cloud allowing us to live multiple coexisting lives between reality and virtual space. At the heart of this research is science that exists in the world today, as there are examples of immortality within nature already. Using these examples and the Yamanaka factors, the 4 ‘aging genes,’ humanity has a chance to extend its lifespan indefinitely.
