They struggle with visibility. You can be studying a teaching qualification, mentoring others, delivering training, or supporting learners and still feel invisible when it comes to opportunities. The point where education is clearly part of your path, but your LinkedIn profile still reflects an older version of you. What we cover in the episodeWhy LinkedIn plays a key role in how educators are noticed and rememberedWhat actually helps position you as an educator, without pretending or oversellingHow small profile updates can shift how others see your experienceA mindset reminder for anyone who feels they’re “not there yet”This episode isn’t about chasing visibility. #101 How to Use LinkedIn to Connect with Educators and Thought Leaders

Moving into education can feel like a solo journey, especially at the beginning. You might be studying, thinking about your next step, or quietly observing from the sidelines, wondering how people actually build relationships in education without feeling awkward or out of place. This episode is important because it reframes connection as part of your development, not something you wait to do once you feel confident or qualified enough.Using LinkedIn as a space for learning, contribution, and community can make the transition into education feel far less isolating. This conversation focuses on how connection builds confidence over time, and why you don’t need to grow alone. This episode is for anyone who wants to feel more comfortable engaging with educators and thought leaders, without turning LinkedIn into a performance. What you’ll learn in this episodeWhy connection often comes before confidence in education careersHow engaging with educators online can open unexpected opportunitiesSimple ways to use LinkedIn without feeling salesy or self-promotionalWhy commenting and conversation matter more than follower numbersHow sharing your learning journey can quietly build visibilityThe role community plays in feeling like you belong in education spacesSubscribe & ShareIf this episode resonated with you, subscribe to I’m No Rookie on your favourite podcast platform. #100 Teaching Digital Literacy in the Age of AI (ChatGPT)

AI tools like ChatGPT are already part of learners’ study habits, whether educators feel ready for that or not. Many learners are using these tools confidently, but without fully understanding what they are producing, how it was generated, or how it should be used within education and assessment. This episode is important because it shifts the focus away from fear, bans, and policing behaviour, and brings the conversation back to teaching. Instead of asking whether learners should be using ChatGPT, this episode explores what learners need to understand when they do.For educators working with adults, vocational learners, or career changers, this episode speaks directly to what is showing up in assignments, feedback conversations, and classroom discussions right now. It reframes digital literacy as a core teaching responsibility, not a technical extra. What you’ll learn in this episodeWhy ChatGPT use is often linked to confidence and understanding gaps rather than cheatingWhat digital literacy means now when learners are using AI toolsWhy polished writing does not always reflect genuine learningHow educators can talk to learners about AI in a calm, practical wayThe role of judgement, explanation, and reflection in modern assessmentMeta informationSubscribe & ShareIf this episode resonated with you, subscribe to I’m No Rookie on your favourite podcast platform. #99 How to Ensure You Have All the Skills for Educator Jobs Posted on LinkedIn

Educator job adverts on LinkedIn can quietly knock your confidence. You might read one and feel capable, then read another and start sure you’re missing something. Different titles, different requirements, and language that doesn’t always reflect how teaching and training actually play out in real work environments. This episode matters because many experienced professionals don’t struggle due to lack of skill, but because job ads are written in a way that makes it hard to see where you already fit. Instead of using LinkedIn as a guide, it can start to feel like a test you’re failing before you even apply. This conversation offers a calmer way to approach educator job adverts, helping you read them with clarity rather than self-doubt, and use them to understand your next steps. What you’ll learn in this episodeWhy educator job adverts often feel inconsistent and confusingHow to tell the difference between essential and desirable criteriaWhat employers are usually really looking for, even if it’s not clearly statedHow transferable skills from industry experience often go unnoticedA simple way to use LinkedIn job ads to guide your development, not judge itSubscribe & ShareIf this episode resonated with you, subscribe to I’m No Rookie on your favourite podcast platform. #98 Breaking Down the Microteach: How to Prepare, Deliver, and Reflect as a New Educator

The microteach is one of those moments in a teaching qualification that carries far more weight than it needs to. For many professionals moving into education, it becomes a source of anxiety, not because the session is difficult, but because it feels like a judgement on whether they belong in a teaching role at all. This episode is important because so many capable therapists, managers, and trainers start second-guessing themselves at this stage. They overprepare, overthink their delivery, and criticise themselves harshly afterwards. The result is unnecessary stress and a lack of confidence, even though the microteach is designed to be a supportive assessment, not a performance. In this episode, Ayo breaks the microteach down clearly and calmly. She explains what the assessment is really looking for, how it works depending on whether you are studying online or onsite, and how to approach preparation, delivery, and reflection in a way that builds confidence rather than doubt. What You’ll Learn in This EpisodeWhat the microteach is actually assessing, and what assessors are not looking forThe difference between delivering your microteach online and completing it onsite in a classroomHow to prepare a focused 15-minute teaching session without trying to teach too muchWhat clear, confident delivery looks like in a microteach settingHow to involve learners naturally and manage your time effectivelyHow to reflect on your microteach in a way that shows awareness, not self-criticismSubscribe & ShareIf this episode resonated with you, subscribe to I’m No Rookie on your favourite podcast platform. #96 From Overbooked to Balanced: Embracing a More Enjoyable New Year

Have you ever said yes to something you were excited about, only to find yourself rushing through it because your diary was already packed? I know that feeling well. There was a time when I thought being busy was the same as being successful, but I’ve since learnt the hard way that busyness is no badge of honour. In 2021, I began a full-time Master’s program in International Spa Management at the University of Buxton, while also working full-time as an international beauty and spa trainer. At first, I thought it was possible. But between flights to places like Hong Kong, jet lag, and long days of training, I quickly realised I couldn’t keep up. My supervisors eventually stepped in and told me to move to part-time study. Without that, I would have burned out completely. The experience taught me a powerful lesson: overloading your plate doesn’t just exhaust you, it steals your enjoyment. I watched friends take opportunities I simply couldn’t because I wasn’t present enough to grab them.Fast forward to my PhD journey, and I found myself making the same mistake again. I signed up for a Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, completed Functional Skills Maths over the summer, and continued to push myself without a break. Progress, yes, but also frustration, tiredness, and little space to appreciate what I had achieved. What you’ll learn in this episodeWhy busyness doesn’t equal success. The opportunities you miss when you overload yourself. How balance sustains confidence and energy.Three practical tips for creating more space in your commitments. If you’ve ever felt stretched too thin or found yourself saying yes too quickly, this episode will give you the encouragement and tools to start choosing balance instead.Listen now and take the first step towards a more enjoyable year.Subscribe & ShareIf this episode resonated with you, subscribe to I’m No Rookie on your favourite podcast platform. #95 Why Feeling Good in Your Body Matters for Your Teaching Career

There are two sides to my confidence. One comes from my knowledge, my experience, and the results I help my students achieve. The other comes from how I feel in my own body. For me, education and well-being are inextricably linked. When one slips, the other feels harder. At the end of 2021, I was at my heaviest. Grief, lockdown, and the busyness of work had left movement at the bottom of my list. One December day, I decided enough was enough. I wanted to take my life back. By the end of 2022, I had lost 98 pounds. Beyond the numbers, I had gained energy, endurance, and the freedom to walk into a room feeling completely myself. But life isn’t a straight line. In 2023 and 2024, movement started to fall away again. I was deep into my first year of a PhD, overwhelmed, and just surviving each day. By the summer of 2025, I found myself almost back where I started. The difference this time? I knew I could do it again, and I knew I needed stability and routine to make it work.So I started with baby steps. Walking to the gym. A few minutes on the treadmill. Light weights. Coming back again the next day. And slowly, it became part of my rhythm. As I record this, I’m eight weeks in, fourteen pounds down, and already feeling the shift. Here’s why this matters for teaching. Education isn’t only about what you know, it’s about how you show up. Whether you’re preparing for your micro-teach, leading a class, or stepping onto a conference stage, the way you feel in your body changes the way you carry yourself. Confidence in your skills matters. Confidence in your skin matters too.In this episode of I’m No Rookie, I’m sharing the lessons I’ve learnt about pairing education with well-being. We’ll talk about why your presence in the classroom goes beyond lesson plans, and how small, consistent steps in your health can make a big difference to your teaching career. What you’ll learn in this episode:Why your well-being is linked to your teaching presenceHow to rebuild confidence step by stepSimple ways to keep yourself motivated for the long termSubscribe & ShareIf this episode resonated with you, subscribe to I’m No Rookie on your favourite podcast platform. #94 Why Guest Lecturing Could Be Your First Step Into Teaching

Have you ever considered teaching but decided that taking on a full-time lecturer role might be too much? You are not alone. Many of us reach a point where we want to share what we know, but we are not ready to commit to a timetable and the politics that sometimes come with permanent roles. In this episode of I’m No Rookie, I share why I am choosing the guest lecturing path. This is not about me having less experience or not being ready. It is about being intentional with how I want to position myself. After years of teaching in the spa and wellness industry, training internationally, supporting small businesses, and now training others to become educators, I realised I did not need more experience. What I needed was clarity on where to place myself next. The idea of guest lecturing came up in a conversation with my supervisors during my PhD. They reminded me that guest lecturers bring their specialist areas, passions, and research into the classroom in flexible ways. For me, that means sharing niche topics like AI in education, the student voice, and improving learning outcomes for dyslexic learners. For you, it could mean advanced treatment techniques, leadership in wellness, or the business skills you have built up over time.Guest lecturing is not a second-best option. It can be the perfect fit if you want to:Test the waters in education without committing to a full-time roleShare your subject specialism in a way that feels meaningfulKeep your flexibility while building credibilityExplore opportunities to teach locally or even internationallySomething to think about: what could you talk about for an hour, without needing to rely on notes? That might be the seed of your guest lecturing path. What You’ll Learn in This EpisodeWhy I’ considering guest lecturing over a full-time lecturer roleHow to start identifying your own specialist areaPractical steps to position yourself as a guest lecturerWhy flexibility and passion matter more than just ticking boxesSubscribe & ShareIf this episode resonated with you, subscribe to I’m No Rookie on your favourite podcast platform. Whether you’re the one giving it or receiving it, feedback can either lift someone up or knock their confidence completely. And I’ve experienced both.In this episode, I open up about a personal story that stayed with me, not because of the lesson I learnt, but because of how unclear, unhelpful, and dismissive the feedback was. And then, I share what happened when I finally received feedback that made me feel seen.Whether you're an assessor, trainer, or new to the classroom, this episode will help you reflect on what makes feedback meaningful. What You’ll LearnWhat unhelpful feedback can do to a learner’s confidenceWhy feedback should go beyond “tick-box” correctionsThe key elements of student-centred feedback (including the full F.E.E.D.B.A.C.K. acronym)Resources Mentioned🎧 Bonus course: The Art of Giving Feedback Included in all our education and training qualifications Learn more about our coursesSubscribe & ShareIf this episode resonated with you, subscribe to I’m No Rookie on your favourite podcast platform.
