"Matter of Record"
Every year, the Board of Immigration Appeals publishes hundreds of decisions. They are written in the language of the law — citations, holdings, procedural histories. They are available to anyone. Almost nobody reads them.Inside each one is a person.Someone who crossed a border. Built a life. Made a decision, or made a mistake. Sometimes all four. The legal record captures what the court found. It does not tell you what happened next. It does not tell you where they are now. It does not ask whether justice was done.Immigration Junkie does.My name is Shavannie. I'm a lawyer, and I am obsessed with immigration court — not the politics, the cases. This show follows real BIA decisions, finds the real people behind them, and asks the questions the record leaves open. We are not advocates. We are not commentators. We are not here to tell you how to feel about immigration. We are here to follow the story. Each episode takes one published decision and goes as far as the reporting will take us — into the legal record, into the history, into the lives of the people the system processed and, in many cases, erased. Some of those people we will find. Some we won't. Either way, the story is worth telling. Not legal advice. Just the truth, as close as we can get to it.Immigration Junkie. This is where we start.
