One Word Update - Calibrate for Renewal 2024

We're halfway through 2024 and we give a little update on our words for the year! Stewardship and Balance - two powerful themes that we wanted to explore in our lives. We share how and why we picked these words along with the issues God was revealing to both of us at the end of 2023. It's almost fall and we discuss how this year has unfolded. We enjoy the deep wrestling that happens when we ask the Lord to reveal unexposed areas to us. What parts of our lives are we not surrendering? What are we stewarding well or not stewarding well? How do we cope when things don't unfold like we planned? Like, share, and comment so we can continue having conversations! Boundaries

In this episode, we discuss the topic of boundaries. Why are we having this conversation? What are boundaries? Boundaries help nurture healthy relationships. Johnna shares about her journey the past few years to dig at this topic even more closely in her life. Drexel shares how a lack of boundaries reveals itself in work or outside commitments. We can not do it all and it's important to ask God for clarity in each season on what we should be doing. We have been married 15 years and boundaries affect your marriage, family and much more. There will be a Part 2 to this topic so feel free to comment with questions or push back and we will keep the conversation going! Like, share, and comment so we can continue having conversations! "Back to School" Banter & How We Homeschool Part 2

In this episode, we share why we question some "Back to School" trends and some very practical things about how we "school." This episode is straight from the hip and we take a few tangents to explain ourselves. We teach within our family year-around and discuss the ebb and flow of what this looks like. What have I unlearned regarding commitments that come this time of year? How do I seek the Lord about what our school year should hold? We caution parents about the uncertainty that comes with comparison. We chat about curriculum and our daily rhythms. It's a fun conversation and hope you feel encouraged to walk in freedom! Marriage Check-in Live

What is a Marriage Check-in? We press record and take off on something we do in our marriage every now and then! We talk about what this process is and why we do it. Building off of last week's episode, it's hard to invest in your marriage if there are things you are withholding from your spouse - spiritually, mentally or physically. Many times it's not intentional disconnect, but life happens and it takes hard work to peel back layers. However, if your marriage is not operating to its full potential, everything in your life will be affected! This is a practical conversation we have quite often to really dig at things that might be creeping into our marriage. Some of it starts with ourselves and other times it is exposed with the stressors or seasons of life. Discipleship and community play a part in exposing things we are often unaware of. Investing in Marriage

In this episode, we answer a listener's question of "How do you make time to get away?" We believe the time and energy you invest in your marriage is one of the greatest forms of generational wealth. We share how we manage date nights, time away for just us and some of the practical things regarding this topic. We talk about if we leave our little babies and some of the financial hacks we have for making it happen. We discuss why date nights were so strongly needed in the earlier years of our marriage and how we find time more organically these days. It is important to really connect with your spouse and have deep and meaningful conversations. We encourage couples to build a rhythm of connection into your daily habit and continue to enjoy one another in the midst of life! Like, share, and comment so we can continue having conversations! Organized Sports

In this episode, we discuss the topic of organized sports and some of the reasons we push back on the culture's narrative that sports are necessary for our kids. Play is important and we believe it's healthy for our children. Are sports necessary for character and discipline? We believe our culture worships sports and we should carefully consider the things we're committed to. Exploring Current Emotions

In this episode, Drexel and I continue to explore the topic of being emotionally healthy, especially in the midst of stress. We discuss some current circumstances and how we handle them differently. What is underneath our feelings and how do we personally face them in light of who God is? We discuss some mind, body, connections we've learned in our journey to make space for what God is trying to teach us. Our theology on this topic affects our marriage, parenting and all of our relationships. We have some of our own revelations during this episode. Our culture doesn't make a lot of space for openly processing these things and we hope this conversation is helpful for your own family! Exploring Emotions

In this conversation, we explore the topic of emotions. Drexel and I are completely opposite when it comes to processing and communicating emotions. This episode is full of laughter and real life! We have learned a lot about this topic over 15 years of marriage, mainly from trial and error as we have sought to understand and love one another. We share our journey in how we process emotions differently and the work God has done in both of us. We briefly discuss why we're exploring this topic more deeply. As our children get older, we want to make sure we are modeling emotional maturity and giving them helpful tools to express themselves. There is much more to be said and we'll be coming back to this topic, so let us know what questions or comments you have. Like, share, and comment so we can continue having conversations! Biblical Community with Guest Charles Halley

In this episode, Drexel and Charles continue to unpack the concept of biblical community. Make sure to listen to the previous episode for the context of where this conversation started. Charles presents the idea of a team and we love how he breaks downs the crucial elements of relationships. Drexel and Charles process the purpose of gathering. Why is it that with so many churches and so many Christians are we not solving some of the city's problems? Do we have the right to choose the people we want to be around? Who sets our community and what changes must we make? Lot's more to be said, but it's a great conversation. Like, share, and comment so we can continue having conversations! We discuss the commands of Scripture to restore one another in gentleness and love. What is the concept of carrying one another's burdens and who is supposed to do this? Biblical Friendship as the Foundation of Community

In this conversation, we wrestle with the topic of friendship and what we would define as biblical friendships. We know the struggle of finding deep, life-giving friendships. What should a biblical friendship look like and how does it differ from other people we frequently cross paths with? This is the hill Drexel will die on and he mentions 3 C's - Commitment, Continuity & Compassion. In a culture where we prioritize sports, entertainment and other things - are we willing to prioritize friendships? We talk about the concept of a radical and transformational community. Friendships take hard work, authenticity and a lot of grace, but Christ calls us to this standard of love. Like, share, and comment so we can continue having conversations! Disciplining Your Chilldren

In this episode, we try to unpack a FAQ about discipline. How do you discipline your kids? Drexel brings comedy, truth bombs and realistic tools to this multi-faceted conversation. Discipline encompasses so much of our family's culture and we stress why behavior modification is not the goal. We discuss spanking, some of our own story and where we are currently at with this tool. It takes time and patience to get to the heart issue with each child, but that is where transformation lies. Our goal is not for our family to just appear "well behaved" on the outside. How do we teach our children consequences for their choices, but more importantly why is this important? The goal of restoration for everyone in the family is at the center of the discipline tools we use. Like, share, and comment so we can continue having conversations!
