Papers, Power and Profiling: When Black Identity meets the system.
In this opening episode of Kizito’s Konversations, Wilson Kizito introduces the purpose behind the podcast and begins an honest conversation about legitimacy, identity, and the subtle ways power operates within everyday systems.Drawing from his experience as a Black African immigrant navigating professional spaces, Wilson reflects on racial microaggressions in the workplace, the pressure to constantly prove competence, and the deeper structures that shape how people are perceived and treated. This episode explores how moments that may appear small — a question, a pause, a glance — can reveal larger patterns of bias and expectation. Through personal reflection and real data, Wilson examines how profiling, perception, and power intersect in workplaces and institutions.Rather than reacting with anger, this conversation focuses on clarity: understanding systems, recognizing patterns, and developing the awareness needed to move through them with strength and strategy. In this episode you’ll hear about:• The subtle ways legitimacy is questioned in professional environments• A personal experience of anti-Black racism in the workplace• How microaggressions shape behavior and self-perception• Research and data that reveal broader systemic patterns• Why understanding power structures is essential for leadership and advocacyKizito’s Konversations is a space for thoughtful dialogue about leadership, identity, justice, and the systems that shape our lives. We name it. Kizito's Konversations Introduction
I started this podcast because too many important conversations are either avoided, oversimplified, or turned into noise. As a Black immigrant navigating leadership, identity, and systems in different spaces, I’ve seen how complex issues get reduced to headlines or heated debates without real understanding. I wanted to create a space where we slow down, think critically, and speak honestly.Kizito’s Konversations exists to bring clarity where there is confusion, structure where there is chaos, and action where there is complacency. This is not about outrage. It’s about responsibility. It’s about growth. It’s about leadership.I believe conversations shape culture , and culture shapes systems. If we can learn to name issues accurately, unpack them thoughtfully, and act intentionally, we can move forward with purpose. That’s why this podcast exists. We name it. We unpack it. We act.
