KLING KLANG KLONG

We explore the processes, the people and the meaning behind what we hear, both from the perspective of the listener and the sound maker.

  1. 3

    Data-Driven Music

Music is a fundamental channel of communication: it provides a means by which people can share emotions and express what we don’t find the words for. But what other ways are there for music to convey meaning, beyond the realm of emotions? Even though encoding meta information in music has been an artistic practise dating back to Baroque, similar approaches until now remained mainly in the Avantgarde scene. However through the development of technology, the usage of data as an artistic tool started to gain popularity. We invited Christian Losert a composer, creative coder and former member of kling klang klong to give us an insight into his own sound practise so that we gain better understanding of what the emerging field of data-driven music is about.

  2. 2

    Composers of the city

Have you ever wondered who is writing the soundtrack of noises that accompanies our life every single day? We talked to Thomas Kusitzky and Felipe Sanchez Luna about the interplay of sounds in our cities. Why do they sound the way they do and what do they tell about us? Who is allowed to make noise and why do we need an institution like the newly founded FOAM?

  3. 1

    Dark Matter Berlin

In our pilot episode we talked about spatial audio and interactive sound with one of the founders of our studio, Maurice Mersinger. We went through all the steps of sound creation for the otherworldly Dark Matter Berlin, and he also tell us why one of those steps included crawling on the ground while composing!
