I've had to shift my thought process and perspective recently and spend more time with myself. I've indulged in a lot of "gurus" or "coaches" online and I got to a place of stagnation. I am the worst version of myself if I'm not creating something so if I feel stagnant it feels like torture. I'm currently adopting a new positive attitude in the work I do and taking more time to appreciate what I do daily. It's deeper than "it could be worse," it's being in tune with myself that will bring me closer to what I enjoy. Feeling lost is having other people's ideas in my head that are clouding my own unique perspective and that I find enjoyable. I think we can find more meaning when we give ourselves the appreciation and time that we deserve. At the end of each day, I'm convinced that the only person that can really help me is myself. The title is admittedly a massive assumption. I shed light on the framework that I’ve been slowly building for a group of our audience. Far and away, my personal and professional life has improved with this strategy; but it was a long-winded, painful, and winding road to finally get here. I’m putting all of my effort and stock into the idea of creating and maintaining a personal brand. The prerequisites are you have to be comfortable talking to some degree and only talk about your experiences. I want you to understand that your experiences can be old and brand new and the kicker that might help a lot of you is to simply try to teach something to your younger self. I’ve continued to fail over and over again in my business journey. It’s part of the game. Today, I talked about an important conversation that I had with my mentors at the time. I was very much a people pleaser in my youth and in my professional career. This eventually led to my own determent many times. More than I would like to admit. A “yes man,” in some seasons can be a great tool for you to get out of your comfort zone but if you’re going overboard, you might feel like you’re drowning. This question will likely come up almost every day as a professional and it’s a nice filter to keep in the back of your mind when you’re navigating your journey. Today, I talk about the seemingly impossible, I got paid to produce a podcast. This was me “making it” in my mind. I was paid dirt cheap, $7.25 an hour to start and eventually worked up to $15.00 an hour over a 4-year period. I quit my job to go back to school full-time and continue my little show as I’m ushered into college. My show helped me get ahead of nearly every student who was “in media” at my college. Some vloggers here and there but no one ran a podcast, other than, “Brad.” I’ve got some stories about Brad but I share a quick one today in how he played a role in me getting my next “dream job” that I didn’t even know I wanted at the time. Some key points I want to emphasize in this episode is the power of having resources available for people to find you. I was willing to put myself in front of people. I got lucky in a lot of different ways but I was ALWAYS educating, building, and promoting myself in some way. Another noteworthy segment is how a podcast can be an insanely efficient resource for any company or institution to have. The marketing dollars spent and attention consumed are actually trackable and unmatched compared to traditional media. Spend multiple thousands on a billboard that is there for 3 months or multiple thousands of dollars for a show that is evergreen with hours of content that is consumable by anyone in the world at any time. The choice is pretty simple. Our audience wasn’t exactly big, our best shows would hover around 750 listeners per episode or less. If we could get one student to sign up for a program from the show, the show pays for itself, on the low-end, by 5X. It may be worth having a product available when you start a show rather than hoping an advertiser comes out of nowhere. It took a little over a year for the show to convert but boy was it worth it to the college! I try to give this example to my clients who want to start a podcast and see immediate results.
