Saving Sharks with Finlay Pringle and Stop Finning EU

Sharks are incredibly important for the health of our oceans. They are apex predators, and so they play a very important role in the ecosystem. In this podcast, we'll talk to Finlay Pringle, shark ambassador and environmental campaigner about how his passion for sharks started. We'll also talk about shark finning and shark captivity. Finlay campaigned to stop the Shark Fin Trade in the UK, which has just been passed into law yesterday, 29 June 2023!This is what the citizen led initiative called "Stop finning – Stop the trade" is trying to achieve in Europe! And I’m so happy that Katharina Loupal one of the campaigners of Stop Finning EU will to talk to us about as well. On the 11th of July, the EU parliament will vote on the petition calling the EU to ban the trade of shark fins. It could be a historic moment for ocean and shark conservation. Together, we can give sharks the break they desperately need to recover from decades and decades of cruelty and overfishing!I hope you enjoyed this podcast! If you would like to learn more about sharks you can check my shark video on my YouTube channel, Leo’s animal planet. And there is also a review of a great book about sharks called “A day in the life of sharks” by shark and marine biologist, Carlee Jackson.Have a wonderful month and I’ll see you soon for more podcasts on animals. I’ll see you later! LEO Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
