Zelda: Oracle of Seasons/Ages - A Leap of Faith
In the past, I've discussed how trading quests and seeking out information can shape areas in a Zelda game. For Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, Hidemaro Fujibayashi and his team chose to implement their incredible new ideas and mechanics around this philosophy in an effort to channel the original Zelda. The result is a wildly entertaining, challenging, puzzling, and ultimately enjoyable couple of games that don't get the attention they deserve. They're not perfect, but they represent a leap of faith for the developers, and for the rest of the series. Originally published March 14, 2021.

Luigi's Mansion Retrospective
The original Luigi's Mansion is a timeless classic that defines the term "replayable". But its initial impression on critics wasn't great, and it had to develop a cult following later on. This video aims to discuss, critique, and otherwise document the evolution of Luigi's Mansion. Originally published October 19, 2020.

Understanding the Music of Doom
In 1993, Doom became one of the world's first immersive video games, and we can attribute a lot of that to Bobby Prince's score. Today, Mick Gordon has adapted the diversity of Doom's soundtrack in a slew of unorthodox and incredible ways. This video explores how Mick was able to do this, what it adds to both games, and why his compositions were so important. Originally published August 4, 2020.

Pac-Man World 2 and the High Score
Pac-Man World 2 has a unique stance on 100% completion that hearkens back to the mentality of going for a high-score. And I adore that. But I also realized upon revisiting the game (for the millionth time) that it needs a ton of work. Originally published January 27, 2019.
