Who Hurt You, Kalfas? (SG-1: Memento)
Silvana, Eric and Tegan watch Stargate: SG-1 Season 6 Episode 20 "Memento." It's agreed among the hosts that this episode should have been called "Going To Other Planets." Stargate goes for a bit of a Star Trek feel with bringing back the Prometheus. Jack isn't acting like himself, again, and isn't respecting the established hierarchy of the ship. An interesting dynamic is established with the Tagreans but isn't really delivered on in a satisfying way. This episode was severely lacking a Daniel! Join the discussion on our socials. Episode ratings: Comedic Effect - 2/7 Chevrons Emotional Impact - 3/7 Chevrons Enjoyability - 3/7 Chevrons Culture/history/lore - 5/7 Chevrons Novelty - 2/7 Chevrons Technical Quality - 4/7 Chevrons Plot - 3/7 Chevrons Relevance to the overall story? SG: Fire (SG-1: "The Changeling")
Silvana, Eric and Tegan watch Stargate SG1: Season 6 Episode 19 "The Changeling." This is the second episode written by Christopher Judge and the hosts enjoyed it much more than the first episode he wrote ("The Warrior"). This episode is really a firefighting ad for a bit of the episode as Teal'c is living an alternate life in a dream state as a fireman. Teal's is switching between 2 dream lives, one of being a firefighter waiting to donate his kidney to his stepfather and one where he is a member of SG1, but the truth is much darker. The hosts have a few ideas for what have been a better dream-world than Teal'c being a firefighter but overall really liked the episode. The hosts also wonder, was this ascended Daniel in Teal'c dream-world all along? Stargate fans may never know! Episode ratings: Comedic Effect - 3/7 Chevrons Emotional Impact - 7/7 Chevrons Enjoyability - 6/7 Chevrons Culture/history/lore - 2/7 Chevrons Novelty - 3/7 Chevrons Technical Quality - 5/7 Chevrons Plot - 5/7 Chevrons Relevance to the overall story? Don't Kiss Jonas Without Consent! (SG1: "Forsaken")
Silvana, Eric and Tegan watch Stargate SG1 Season 6 Episode 18 "Forsaken." Jack apparently forgot he is an amateur astronomer and no longer trusts strangers who have a chain of command (maybe because this alien is hitting on Sam?). You should definitely know to be suspicious of aliens flirting with you right away. This episode features Celtic peoples who have been kidnapped by the goa'uld. It also features VERY SILLY looking weapons. This episode features a prop from a Macgyver episode! Ratings: Comedic Effect - 3/7 Chevrons Emotional Impact - 4/7 Chevrons Enjoyability - 5/7 Chevrons Culture/history/lore - 6/7 Chevrons Novelty - 2/7 Chevrons Technical Quality - 3/7 Chevrons Plot - 5/7 Chevrons Relevance to the overall story? Helm's Deep in France ("Timeline" Film)
Silvana, Eric and Tegan watch the 2003 Film "Timeline." The hosts described this movie as jurassic park for archeologists instead of paleontologists. Eric Bana was dreamy as always in this intellectual movie made by non-intellectual people. The battle scene in this movie also really stood out. Silvana and Tegan educate on the problematic history of the depiction of consent in Hollywood. Overall, the hosts all enjoyed this movie and would definitely recommend it. Clip Show and Chill (SG-1: "Disclosure")
Silvana, Eric and Tegan watch Stargate SG-1 Season 6 Episode 17 "Disclosure," a truly uninventive recap episode. However, a good jumping off point to talk about the culture and media of the early 2000s. In this episode, The SGC invites leaders from various nations to disclose to them the Stargate Program. Senator Kinsey is there to try to convince them that the NID would be a better organization to oversee the program. Thor swoops in at the last minute to have a sassy one liner and to convince everyone that keeping control with the SGC is the right call afterall. No need to confront any of the problems with the U.S. military overseeing such a program! The hosts talk about ancient YouTube videos and you can find those linked below: Episode ratings: Comedic Effect - 2/7 chevrons Emotional Impact - 1/7 chevrons Enjoyability - 1/7 chevrons Culture/history/lore - 2/7 chevrons Novelty - 1/7 chevrons Technical Quality - 2/7 chevrons Plot - 1/7 chevrons Relevance to the overall story? Just Kiss A Russian, Already! (SG-1 "Metamorphosis")
Silvana and Tegan watch Stargate SG-1 Season 6 Episode 16 "Metamorphosis," which should switch it's name with the episode "Bane." Nirrti is up to her shenanigans again but is now changing people's genomes to try to make a Hok'tar. She has convinced a group of people that she is their god and can heal them and give them special powers. This episode highlights once again that Jack hates Russians, he hasn't learned anything after "The Tomb," episode and we really need Crystal Jack back to deal with these issues. This episode reminds of the Hell episodes where we are going back and forth from a jail cell and being interrogated and tortured outside the jail. Another Russian Colonel dies reinforcing the redemption by death trope. Jonas catches the attention of Nirrti because his DNA is special in some way we aren't quite aware of yet. Unfortunately for her, this episode marks the demise of Nirrti, so she'll never get to get with Jonas or give him extra special abilities. That's the 9th Goa'uld they've killed so when they kill their 10th they get a free sub! Join the Discussion on our socials. Arugula? On Chicken Nachos?! (Stargate SG-1: "Paradise Lost")
Silvana, Eric and Tegan watch Stargate SG-1 Season 6 Episode 15 "Paradise Lost." The bromance between Jack and Colonel Maybourne is back with a vengeance. The queerbaiting is off the charts from the very beginning with the hot dog jokes. Maybourne springs his new plan to avoid being imprisoned and convinces the SGC to authorize a mission to a planet that he claims has a cache of goa'uld weapons. As expected, SG-1 is double crossed but Jack accidentally goes through a portal with Maybourne with no way to get back to the Stargate. Sam, Jonas and Teal'c are back on earth trying to find Jack with the not very helpful assistance of Dr. Bill Lee. There is a touching moment between Sam and Teal'c which acknowledges the loss of Daniel. What did you think of this episode? Join the conversation on our socials. The Assassination of Senator Kinsey ("Smoke and Mirrors")
Silvana, Eric and Tegan watch Stargate SG-1 Season 6 Episode 14 "Smoke and Mirrors." In this episode, Jack is framed for Senator Kinsey's attempted assassination using technology from a prior episode "Foothold." Agent Barrett wants to fix the NID from the inside and Sam and him clash on their views of trust in their employers. There is an explosion and Teal'c is being the muscle again. Episode Ratings: Comedic Effect - 4/7 chevrons Emotional Impact - 2/7 chevrons Enjoyability - 4/7 chevrons Culture/history/lore - 4/7 chevrons Novelty - 3/7 chevrons Technical Quality - 2/7 chevrons Plot - 5/7 chevrons Relevance to the overall story? First Furlings! ("Sight Unseen")
Silvana, Eric and Tegan watch Stargate SG-1 Season 6 Episode 13 "Sight Unseen," could these "creatures" be the legendary Furlings? This is an earth-based episode where everyone who has come in contact with an Ancient device (or touched a person who has) can see huge "bugs" everywhere. A Veteran's grandma really steals the show in this one. Silvana introduces Eric and Tegan to "Flatland" which a strong recommendation for any math nerd. Episode Ratings: Comedic Effect - 4/7 Chevrons Emotional Impact - 1/7 Chevrons Enjoyability - 2/7 Chevrons Culture/history/lore - 2/7 Chevrons Novelty - 1/7 Chevrons Technical Quality - 4/7 Chevrons Plot - 2/7 Chevrons Relevance to the overall story? Not Like Other Replicators ("Unnatural Selection")
Eric and Tegan are flying solo this week and watched Stargate SG-1 Season 6 Episode 12 "Unnatural Selection." Jonas has another first and meets replicators for the first time. Spoiler alert, there are humanoid replicators now?! The team has been tasked with helping the Asgard doctor a plot (sadly Silvana wasn't there to help them) to freeze the replicators in time until they came up with a more permanent solution. The time dilation stuff gets confusing really fast and Eric and Tegan discuss time travel in Sci-Fi. Overall this episode was a cool concept, but didn't really feel like a follow up to "Prometheus." Episode Ratings: Comedic Effect - 5/7 Chevrons Emotional Impact - 4/7 Chevrons Enjoyability - 3/7 Chevrons Culture/history/lore - 2/7 Chevrons Novelty - 3/7 Chevrons Technical Quality - 2/7 Chevrons Plot - 1/7 Chevrons Relevance to the overall story? First Asgard! ("Prometheus")
Silvana, Eric and Tegan watch Stargate SG-1 Season 6 Episode 11 "Prometheus." There's been a leak about the Stargate program, AGAIN! And it's revealed that the Air Force has been cooking up something big underground in the desert - the X303, also known as Prometheus. Will giving a tour of the Prometheus get the press off their case? Jonas meets as Asgard for the first time if that's any indication! You may recognize some of the guest stars in this episode from other famous Canadian Sci-Fi shows! Episode Ratings: Comedic Effect - 3/7 Chevrons Emotional Impact - 3/7 Chevrons Enjoyability - 6/7 Chevrons Culture/history/lore - 4/7 Chevrons Novelty - 5/7 Chevrons Technical Quality - 6/7 Chevrons Plot - 5/7 Chevrons Relevant to the overall story? Ash The Misogynistic Android (Alien 1979)
Silvana, Eric and Tegan watch the original 1979 "Alien." It becomes clear very quickly that Red Dwarf is a spoof of Alien. Alien clearly has had such a huge impact on the genre overall and the hosts felt watching it was worthwhile. This movie also really exhibits the differences between the expectations of 20th century viewers versus 21st century viewers. The hosts share fun facts about the movie's filming and production, being an actor on this set sounds like it would have been a nightmare! Which really influenced the feeling of dread and tension in the film. Movie Ratings: Comedic Effect - 2/7 chevrons Emotional Impact - 6/7 chevrons Enjoyability - 5/7 chevrons Culture/history/lore - 3/7 chevrons Novelty - 7/7 chevrons Technical Quality - 7/7 chevrons Plot - 7/7 chevrons We definitely recommend watching this if you somehow haven't already! Genetically Modified Symbiotes ("Cure")
Silvana, Eric and Tegan watch Stargate SG-1 Season 6 Episode 10 "Cure." The hosts start out discussing which bands SG-1 characters would love, unfortunately this is not a crossover episode with the band The Cure. We are back in classic SG-1 style with the costumes, the post-industrial backdrop, archeology, and great character moments. The emotional moments hit hard and the ethical dilemma was interesting and handled well. Silvana gives a lesson on why Agile isn't done in medicine, Tegan rants about drug trials, and Eric gives a history lesson on Bath in England. No explosions in this episode! Episode Ratings: Comedic Effect - 5/7 chevrons Emotional Impact - 7/7 chevrons Enjoyability - 7/7 chevrons Culture/history/lore - 7/7 chevrons Novelty - 7/7 chevrons Technical Quality - 7/7 chevrons Plot - 7/7 chevrons Relevant to the overall story? Between Two Funerals ("Allegiance")
Silvana, Eric, and Tegan watch Stargate SG-1 Season 6 Episode 9 "Allegiance." The Tok'ra and the Jaffa finally team up in this episode, is it everything the podcast hosts hoped it would be? Listen to find out. This episode has another man shooting a gun in a circle...but it has a decidedly different feel that in last week's episode "The Other Guys." Jacob talks to Jack about having a Tok'ra symbiote, and Sam is noteably absent for this conversation. Teal'c unfortunately is acting like his Chulak alter ego attacking a Tok'ra in this episode, can we stop with that? The Za'tarc detector is back! But is it useful? Does it change anything? Episode ratings: Comedic Effect - 3/7 chevrons Emotional Impact - 3/7 chevrons Enjoyability - 3/7 chevrons Culture/history/lore - 6/7 chevrons Novelty - 3/7 chevrons Technical Quality - 5/7 chevrons Plot - 1/7 chevrons Relevance to the overall story? Jaffa HR ("The Other Guys")
Silvana, Eric, and Tegan watch Stargate SG-1 Season 6 Episode 8 "The Other Guys." Silvana and Tegan were pleasantly surprised at how OK this episode was and Eric wasn't a big fan of the humor. Jonas Quinn is very quiet in this episode and this episode seems to have been made for Trekkies! Episode ratings: Comedic Effect - 4/7 chevrons Emotional Impact - 2/7 chevrons Enjoyability - 3/7 chevrons Culture/history/lore - 1/7 chevrons Novelty - 5/7 chevrons Technical Quality - 2/7 chevrons Plot - 4/7 chevrons Relevance to the overall story? Mr. Omoroca "Fire and Water" (Re-run)
Please enjoy this encore presentation of "Mr. Omoroca" which originally aired on January 3, 2022. This episode was chosen in honor of our upcoming release on "Jaws." They think he is dead, but a fish-man has used bubbles to change their memory. Daniel is kidnapped for knowing too much about Babylon (not the "5" kind) while the team mourns him at his memorial, wake, and apartment. Join the conversation on our socials.

You're Being Followed ("Shadow Play")
Eric and Tegan watch Stargate SG-1 Season 6 episode 7 "Shadow Play." Silvana will be back hosting soon but in the mean time SG-1 returns to Langara to negotiate about military tech with Jonas' people, the Kelownans. The SG-C wants Naquadria but the negotiations clearly aren't going anywhere. The SG-C is starting to look like the Tollans in this episode, not wanting to share technology with a less technologically advanced society. SG-1 also just steal Naquadria from the Kelownan's and nobody calls them out for it! Episode Ratings Comedic Effect - 1/7 chevrons Emotional Impact - 4/7 chevrons Enjoyability - 3/7 chevrons Culture/history/lore - 5/7 chevrons Novelty - 2/7 chevrons Technical Quality - 3/7 chevrons Plot - 3/7 chevrons This episode is relevant to the main story line and we don't recommend skipping it. Born Sexy Yesterday 2.0 (Re-run)
Please enjoy this encore presentation of Born Sexy Yesterday 2.0 which originally aired on August 14, 2023. Silvana and Tegan discuss a concept coined by Pop Culture Detective called "Born Sexy Yesterday". This is a relationship trope that is typically an incredible, exotic woman who is intellectually younger than a more, average human man. Silvana and Tegan discuss the trope, its variations, and some inversions. Some of the media discussed in this episode, besides Stargate of course, are: Twilight 50 Shades of Grey Fifth Element Tron Edward Scissorhands Big No Hard Feelings Rocky Horror Picture Show Star Man Star Trek Additional Sources: Witches, Midwives, Nurses - a book on the history of witchcraft, medicine, and midwifery. "Sexual Assault of Men Played for Laughs" (Part 1 and Part 2) - youtube videos "Temperance movement linked booze to domestic violence - did it have a point?" - aritcle about the history of prohibition and temperance movement. A Pacific Northwest Couple And Their Speech Writer ("Nightwalkers")
Silvana, Eric and Tegan watch SG-1 Season 6 Episode 5 "Nightwalkers." Something strange, but clearly related to Adrian Conrad, is happening in this small Pacific Northwest town. This episode is giving big X-files vibes. Sam gets implanted with an immature goa'uld, but does she really? Amanda Tapping really gets to show her acting chops in this one. Silvana, Eric and Tegan talk about how they feel about Stargate episodes set on earth. The One Where Lantash is Resurrected ("Summit")
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 15, "Summit." For the first time in ages, multiple system lords are meeting and the Tok'ra have conveniently synthesized a symbiote poison. Daniel gets volunteered to go with Jacob to the Summit and pose as Yu's closest human servant using the Reol chemical. Jack, Sam and Teal'c stay behind at Tok'ra base where Lt. Kyle Idiot is on his first mission. Apparently Lantash survived "Divide and Conquer" and blends with Lt. Idiot out of desperation to try to save his life. Daniel is going to use the weapon but, inconveniently, Sarah/Osiris is here and he is understandably hesitant to use it on her. This is a two-parter so stay tuned next week for the conclusion "The Last Stand." Join the discussion on our socials

Teal'c Interrupted (48 Hours)

Kyle Idiot's Kobayashi Maru Wet Dream ("Proving Ground")
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 13 "Proving Ground". This is a nostalgic favorite for Silvana, but what's up with Lt. Haley being sidelined to a side character? How much brown nosing can Jack take? Is that the lady from Battlestar Galactica? Join the conversation on our socials.

Going to Other Planets ("Wormhole X-treme!")
The day has finally arrived, lovely listeners, when we get to discuss this testament to postmodern television! Martin Lloyd is back and he has written a television show that is eerily reminiscent of the Stargate Program. Silvana and Tegan are excited to be joined by their very special guests Eric and their military advisor, Rob. Where was Katharyn Powers in this episode? Join the discussion on our socials.

Straight to S Tier! ("2001")
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 10 "2001" a follow up to Season 4's "2010" one of Silvana's all-time favorite episodes. SG-1 encounter the Aschen, again! Jack's note wasn't specific enough and they meet the Aschen through a people who are seemingly being helped by the Aschen, the Volians. The Aschen make earth an offer for technology that is hard for anyone to refuse. So in the second episode in a row, earth is given an offer that seems too good to be true. And SPOILER ALERT...it is too good to be true! The Senator-Who-Won't-Be-Named is back and is putting his ego on full display. Jack is having none of it. Everyone has a part to play in this episode, even Walter and Hammond are teaming up to figure out of the Aschen are from the off-limits planet. Watch Tegan on Treksperts Quiz! Kill the Cat Too ("Between Two Fires")
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 9 "Between Two Fires". This is the end of the Tollan storyline and the end of Narim and his cat. Silvana explains Legends of the Hidden Temple to Tegan. The ladies discuss our duties as citizens of a nation and the better downfall of the Tollan via infiltration instead of invasion. Tegan still wants justice for Hebron, and we could have gotten it this time! The ladies also wonder whatever happened to Narim's feelings? Join the discussion on our socials.

Just Watch the Mummy Instead ("The Tomb")
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 8, "The Tomb". This is not a favorite and is heavily reliant on the drama of the Cold War. Silvana and Tegan come up with several ways this plot could have been more interesting. While dull, this episode does pass the Bechtdel Test. And Peter Deluise directed while no one was bedridden! Congrats, Peter! Join the discussion on our socials.
