It’s comical that there’s still an argument and hatred about the drumming style depicted in the movie Drumline, and it seems to be one sided. DCA Finals were last weekend, we’ll talk about the drum scores and the trend of I&E participants. Plus, what can you do when you’re too old and don’t want to teach?

For drummers and instructors there’s one nemesis at times - the metronome! Even when left to our own devices, what are we practicing? How do we use that mentioning as a tool to enhance what we’re doing. Often, all things marching percussion seem to involve an “all or none” attitude with little in between, BUT we can do so much more, reach a new destination without incorporating a giant lesson plan or new approach.

It’s not just angry drummers or opinionated people who share their thoughts online - their parents do too! How does your perception of your talent or experience differ from our mother’s opinion? We’ll also listen to a few DCA drumlines and learn how little appreciation there might be for senior corps percussion.

Do we always jump to conclusions when the outcome isn’t what we wanted? How does a routine and the nature of practice make us bored out of our mind? Is THAT the thing that drains our motivation to drum well? We’ll talk about some features where you can submit your “hot drum lick” and some free software to help you along the way. And, why is grandma playing the drums? She’s really great at it!
